Scatter Screen Saver v1.0b2 (Build 1.00.0048)
Copyright 1997 Jon Grieve

About
-----
Screen Scatter takes the current desktop, breaks it into blocks, then bounces those blocks around the screen.

Installation
------------
Screen Scatter doesn't have an installation program. All that's required is the program itself (Scatter.scr) and the VB5 Runtime DLL (MSVBVM50.DLL).

Once downloaded, put Scatter.scr (and the runtime file, if downloaded) into the Windows\System directory. Scatter will then appear in the list of available Screen Savers in the Display Control Panel.

Usage
-----
Currently, there is only one option; the size of the blocks that Screen Scatter uses when breaking up the desktop. The size ranges from Large (3 blocks) to Small (40 blocks).

Note: The number chosen determines the number of blocks horizontally across the screen. The vertical number of blocks is calculated to produce as close to square blocks as possible. The default is approximately 3/4 of the number, which is correct for most displays (480/640=0.75, 600/800=0.75, 768/1024=0.75, etc.).

It is possible to override the vertical number calculation, and specify a value. This requires modifying the registry, so I won't write it up here (in case someone attempts it and screws their machine up - then blames me!). If you want to know, E-mail me.

Known Issues
------------
Currently, the screen saver 'preview' window in the Display Control Panel isn't supported. I may add this in the future.

Settings the number of blocks too high can result in slow drawing. This is most likely to be a limitation of your video card (or machine). If it looks to jerky or slow, drop the figure down a few notches...

In some installations, Scatter requires an updated system DLL. This becomes apparent when you load Dial-Up Monitor and receive the following messages:

"The file MSVBVM50.DLL is linked to the the exported routine OLEAUT32.DLL:421 which is not present"

To fix this, download the following file from my homepage and unzip into your \Windows\System directory:
