GRAMMAR SLAMMER 3.0--Slam your Grammar Agony with

The Program that answers the questions the Grammar Checkers can't

GRAMMAR SLAMMER answers those questions that the Grammar Checkers
can't! GRAMMAR SLAMMER helps you in your writing and grammar the
simplest way known to Windows Word Processor users. Grammar
Checkers are helpful, but they are limited. They miss things and
often ask you questions you can't answer. ("Do you want a comma
here?"--"How should I know?" you reply.) Disk-based grammar
books can help, but they are cumbersome to use. GRAMMAR SLAMMER,
on the other hand, supplements the Grammar Checker by providing
answers in a format that you already know how to use--the Windows
Help File! One click on a Word Processor Macro or the GRAMMAR
SLAMMER toolbar and it pops up, ready to go! No office or computer
which depends on word processors should be without it!

You can also use GRAMMAR SLAMMER as an English grammar tutorial.
With networked classes or computer projectors, it can be your class
        notes.

                         Installing GRAMMAR SLAMMER 3.0

Please note that GRAMMAR SLAMMER 3.0 is for Windows 95, Windows 98, or
Windows NT 4 or 2000. If you have a Windows 3.x system, please use version 1.1
of Grammar Slammer. That can be found as file GRMSLM11.ZIP.

Simply run SETUP.EXE, and GRAMMAR SLAMMER will set itself up in
any Windows version 95 or higher. You can run SETUP.EXE by choosing
the "File|Run" Menu option in the Program Manager and entering SETUP.EXE.
(In Windows 95 the "Start|Run" option on the taskbar does the same thing).
You may also run SETUP.EXE by double-clicking on the SETUP.EXE name from
Windows Explorer in Windows 95.

                           Using GRAMMAR SLAMMER

GRAMMAR SLAMMER is easy to use. Start it as you would any Windows program
by clicking or double-clicking (depending on your Windows setup)
on its icon or by double clicking on the program name in the Windows
Explorer. You can also start it by highlighting the program name in the
Windows Explorer in Windows 95.

All you see is a little toolbar with three buttons or icons. This toolbar
stays on top of any word processor or program which is running in Windows.
When you need some grammar information, click on the left button with the
"G" and GRAMMAR SLAMMER will appear. When you are done using GRAMMAR SLAMMER, click on the "Close" button at the top of the Help file, and you will return
to your program, with the Grammar Slammer toolbar ready for you to use
again when you need to.

Click on the middle button with the universal "Stop Circle" and the program
will close. Click on the right button with the Question Mark and a Windows
menu will appear giving you some choices to position the toolbar where you
want it, ask for help, turn the pop-up help boxes off and on, and get
additional information. You can also get this menu by clicking on the right
mouse button.

If you do a lot of word processing, or if you like the convenience of the
GRAMMAR SLAMMER toolbar, click on the "Run at Windows Start" menu, and GRAMMAR SLAMMER will begin whenever Windows boots. To reduce desktop clutter, choose "Hide Toolbar & Show Icon" for a tray icon to appear next to the Windows system clock. Click on that icon to open the grammar help file.

Demo or evaluation copies of GRAMMAR SLAMMER to go with the macro systems
of the five major Windows words processors are available from CompuServe
support forums of Word for Windows, Ami and Word Pro for Windows, Star Office for Windows and Wordperfect for Windows. They may be available from other specialized FTP sites, bulletin boards, and shareware sources. They are always
available from our internet download site. See URL at end.

For more details and information on running GRAMMAR SLAMMER, click on
the question mark button and then "Toolbar Help" on the menu that pops up.

nominal fee for the copying of files. Any commercial distribution without

understood. (Permission is normally granted, please just ask.) See the
VENDOR.TXT or BBSINFO.TXT file for more details.

To continue using this program after the thirty day trial period, you must

software@englishplus.com. Non-commercial correspondence to
the author may be sent to bair_ab72@post.harvard.edu.
Click on "Order Form" on the pop-up menu for more information.

You may also get LANGUAGE VANQUISH which includes GRAMMAR SLAMMER plus SPELLING SLAMMER, a list of tricky words usually overlooked by spell
checkers. This is $39 and can also be ordered via CompuServe GO SWREG as
well as our other means.

SETUP problems (rare, but do happen):
1) SETUP does nothing. This usually happens on machines which are
configured for a language other than English. If this happens, you may
manually copy the files to the selected directory. We recommend making a
directory (folder) named C:\GRAMSLAM and then copying the necessary
files into it. The files needed are GRAMSLAM.EXE, GRAMSLAM.TXT, GRM16.ICO,
GRAMSLAM.HLP, EPOB.ICO, ORDER.HLP, ORDER.HTM and GRAMSLAM.CNT. No other files are needed in any other directory, so a manual uninstall is easy, just remove the directory. Please note that the installation program may create a file with the suffix .LOG. Keep this file so that the uninstall program will work should you need to uninstall. When the program runs, files
named GRAMSLAM.GID and GRAMSLAM.FTS are also created.

2) If you cannot get the GRAMSLAM.HLP file to work for you, try going into
the Windows Explorer, and double-click on the GRAMSLAM.HLP file. If this
does not successfully call up the Grammar Slammer help file, then either
your WINHELP.EXE program is not working, not present, or in the wrong
directory (it should be in your \WINDOWS directory), or your machine for
some reason is not compatible.

Version History:
1.0 Initial offering
1.1 Additional grammar info, Info on Language Vanquish, compressed file size
2.0 Using complete Windows 95 32-bit features. No extra runtime files needed.
3.0 Adding Run at Start & Tray Icon options. Eliminated many cases of Delphi
"icon blackout."

                         Uninstalling GRAMMAR SLAMMER

Should you ever need to remove GRAMMAR SLAMMER from your system, the
following is a complete list of the files you must delete: GRAMSLAM.EXE,
GRAMSLAM.TXT, GRAMSLAM.HLP, EPOB.ICO, README.TXT, GRM16.ICO
and GRAMSLAM.CNT.
If you installed using the SETUP program, then there will also be a
GRAMSLAM.LOG and an UN.EXE program. In addition, the help file created
a program called GRAMSLAM.GID, and possibly GRAMSLAM.FTS. These are all in the same directory, so normally all you have to do is delete the contents of the directory. There may be file in your WINDOWS or WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder called GRAMSLAM.GRP. This may be deleted if you are uninstalling everything.
That file is normally deleted when you remove icons from the taskbar in
the "Start|Settings|Taskbar" sequence.

If you use the "Uninstall" icon, these will all be deleted automatically
and any information in the Windows registry will also be deleted. If
you delete manually, you may want to do a search of the Windows registry
and delete the Grammar Slammer references. Sometimes during the uninstall
you may see an MS-DOS icon in the task tray. If you click on the icon or
right click and then click on "Restore," this will complete the uninstall.
If you click to "Close" the icon, the uninstall may leave some files in the
installation directory.

You may also need to delete miscellaneous text files that may have come
with the program such as this VENDOR.TXT, BBSINFO.TXT,
FILE_ID.DIZ, PAD_FILE.*, SETUP.EXE, and GRAMSLAM.DOZ. These are not
installed by SETUP, but sometimes people leave them on their hard drives
after installing the program files.
