Electronics / Physics Training Software

CRO TUTOR v3.0 and TRAVELLING WAVES v3.0
-----------------------------------------
These two software applications run under Windows.
They are well designed, easy to use and provide students
with excellent graphical simulations and animations. The cost is
very reasonable.

CRO TUTOR 3 simulates a single channel Cathode Ray Oscilloscope with a
colourful, uncluttered display. Timebase, Horizontal Shift and Level
controls are displayed on-screen and may be adjusted with mouse
clicks on Option (Radio) buttons and Slider bars.
The more complicated controls such as coupling and trigger-level are
added onto the screen in three stages so as not to overwhelm the student initially. A new feature is the INSTRUCTOR mode which gives animated instructions on the operation of all the oscilloscope controls.

Sinewaves of various amplitudes and periods are generated and the
student can request to be shown the values of these parameters. When
ready, the student can opt for a test in which five random sinewaves
are displayed in succession. The controls must be correctly
adjusted and the waveform's parameters measured accurately in
order to pass the test. Each level has its own relevant test.
The passmark is set at 80%.

The screen can be printed or copied to the clipboard at any time.
Initial reactions from students have been very favourable. It's
an excellent introduction to a CRO and is very reasonably priced for
a quality product. Every electronics lab should have CRO TUTOR v3.0.

RRP : US$14.95 per installation

TRAVELLING WAVES v3.0 displays moving pulses and transverse waves
( sine, square ) which can be made to reflect at a boundary. It has
relevance to the electronics and physics disciplines.
It may be used by a teacher for class demonstrations or it can be
investigated by students following a self-paced tutorial guide.

Forward, reflected and resultant waves can be shown individually
or in any combination . Standing waves are quite impressively displayed.
The animation can be slowed or paused at any time and
the waveforms printed or copied to the clipboard.

Various parameters such as frequency, reflection coefficient,
attenuation, animation speed and detail are adjusted by on-screen
option buttons and slider bars.

The tutorial notes are thorough and clearly laid out, the display
is colourful and the animation is smooth on a 486/100+ machine.
Pentium recommended.

New for version 3.0 :
Ability to show the part of the wave absorbed by the load.
Option to calculate and display RMS distribution.
Finer control on animation speed.
Minor mods.
