Description
~~~~~~~~~~~
PortsLock is an endpoint security solution that allows system administrators
to specify network policy rules based on user and group membership. It provides
user-level network policy restrictions for Windows workstations and servers.
Once PortsLock is installed, administrators can assign permissions to TCP/IP
connections, just as they would in managing permissions on an NTFS partition
of a hard disk. It lets you control which users or groups can access what
TCP/IP based protocols (HTTP, FTP, SMTP, POP3, Telnet, etc.) on a local
computer, depending on the time of day and day of the week. You can also set
allowed/denied TCP/UDP ports and IP addresses for incoming and outgoing
connections on a per-user basis.
PortsLock is absolutely transparent to users. Users do not have to set up rules
in their applications to use the network. Only administrators are allowed to
set rules so users without administrative privileges cannot bypass PortsLock
security.
Additional features include audit and monitoring of network activity for a
particular user or user group.
Installation
~~~~~~~~~~~~

To install PortsLock you MUST have administrative privileges.

Run "setup.exe". You'll need to select the target directory for the install.

If you install PortsLock on an NTFS partition, Setup protects PortsLock's
directory and files by allowing only members of the Administrators group or
the SYSTEM account to access PortsLock's files or to uninstall PortsLock.

If you wish to install PortsLock without an user intervention you should run
PortsLock Setup with the /s parameter (e.g. "c:\setup.exe /s"). This gives an
install that can be used from within a batch file. There is a special
configuration file for silent setup: portslock.ini. With this file, you can
customize the PortsLock installation parameters. For example:

 1. "Install" parameters:

      Service - PortsLock Service and its related files will be installed
      Manager - PortsLock Manager and its related files will be installed
      Documents - documentation will be installed

    To specify a destination directory for PortsLock, you can supply
    the parameter InstallDir

    If you have the registration key-file for PortsLock, you can specify
    a directory with this file in the parameter RegFileDir

 2. "Misc" parameters:

      Run - this parameter is used to launch an application or execute a batch
            file after a successful install.
