First I would like to thank you for using my program. It makes writing it all the more worthwhile to me.

By installing IEscape, you VERIFY that you have read and agree with the following. If you do not agree, immediately destroy any copies of IEscape that you have in your possession. First off, I would like to say that this program is provided AS IS with no gurantees. While there is no problems or harmful bugs in the program (that I know of), sometimes things do happen without rhyme or reason. Because the application is free, it is presented "AS IS" with no warranty. Like most (if not all programs), whatever happens while you run the program is your problem (as stated in lawyer-talk in the end user license agreement in most software installation programs, you know, that thing you never read and just hit the accept button.) I will say that I tested this program extensively on my machine (a pentium 150 w/48 megs of ram) with no negative results. I doubt (but I DO NOT gurantee) that any harm will come to your computer as a direct result of using IEscape. Now that that is out of the way, lets continue.

Please note that in order to run this program to run as intended, you will need to install the Visual Basic 5 Runtime files. These can be downloaded from CNet.com or from my website at http://welcome.to/chrishowell. You will also need to have Internet Explorer installed. Even though this is a Netscape Bookmark Converter program, Netscape does not need to be installed to use the program, as you will see.

First, read this file. Then, Unzip the contents of the zip file to a temporary directory of your choosing and then run the setup.exe program and follow the on-screen directions. After you have finished running the setup program you can delete the temporary directory with the setup files. To uninstall the program, run Add/Remove Programs from the Windows Control Panel. Please note, that in order for this program to operate correctly, you will need the Visual Basic 5 Runtime files. These can be download from my website or from CNet.com.

*    Distribution of IEscape      *
***********************************
IEscape is provided at the affordable price of FREE!!! Ok, free really isn't a price, but IEscape is free. Thats right, you can use this program, my sweat, my blood, and my tears (well maybe not the first two) at absolutely no cost to yourself. And, not only is IEscape free to use, it is also free to redistribute. However, there are a few catches to that last one. The following must be done if you choose to redistribute IEscape.

1. IEscape may NOT be sold for a profit. You may charge a reasonable amount to compensate for the medium on which you are redistributing it such as a disk or cd-r, as long as you are redistributing it on a physical medium that the person you are giving it to is going to keep forever. You may NOT charge even a penny if you redistribute it through electronic means such as email or providing it as a download, or any other means in which you redistribute it at no cost to yourself.

2. All the files associated with IEscape must be redistributed with the IEscape program. This includes any and all image files, help files, et all. This especially pretains to the text you are reading right now; You MUST include a copy of THE ORIGINAL README.txt file, intact and unaltered.

3. If you wish to include IEscape in a "shareware collection", or some variant thereof, you must notify me that you are doing so first, and receive my permission.

IN ADDITION, you may not decompile, disassemble, or in any way reverse engineer IEscape. It works like this:
See Dick.
See Dick reverse engineer IEscape.
See Dick catch the beat down in the back alley of a gas station.
Now you don't see Dick anymore.

As I said, the program is free and I expect no monetary reimbursement. However, it would be appreciated if you could lend any feedback on the program so that I can enhance future versions of the program. If you enjoy the program, I would also appreciate if you would tell your friends about it so they can give it a try.

*       About IEscape       *
*****************************
IEscape was developed by myself, Christopher Howell in 1999. The program was written using Visual Basic 5 Professional Edition with Service Pack 3 installed. The program makes use of several of the Active X components that come with VB including, but not limited to, the CommonDialog control. I did not write these controls, they were provide in Visual Basic and I used them. Further credits are located at the end of this file.

*       Why IEscape?       *
****************************
Why the hell would I want to use IEscape? Why did this kid bother wasting his valuable college consumed time writing this program? Well, if for no other reason, I love to program. More importantly, IEscape will allow you to quickly convert your Netscape bookmarks into Internet Explorer Favorites. The program reads your bookmark file, then provides you with a list of the bookmarks that were found in the file. You then can select as many, or as few, of the bookmarks you wish, and hit the Export button, and Presto! They are converted to Internet Explorer Favorites. You can rename the bookmarks or change their targets before exporting them. Please note, however, that rename or changing the targets have NO effect on the Netscape bookmarks, they only affect how they will be converted to Favorites. In addition, you can select any HTML based file, instead of the Netscape Bookmark file, and IEscape will provide you with all the links in the file. Note, that this may give you some "funny" results; all the links will be fine, but depending on how the HTML file was set up, you may see all kinds of HTML tags, etc. listed for the title. In this case, simply use the Change Title button to change the title to something nicer looking before exporting.

You are the first person to ever read this far in a README.txt file.
Do not operate this software under the influence of alcohol.
Internet Explorer made and owened by Microsoft, not me.
Netscape owned by a busy-signal, er AOL, or who ever owns them, just remember that I don't own them, and that you probably don't either.
