If your version of Norton AntiVirus 3.0 for Windows and DOS is dated
before June 9, 1995, you will need to update it using the NAV July 1995
Update in order to use these virus definitions. If you have not
updated your version, download the NAV July 1995 Update from the
Symantec BBS, CompuServe, or America Online. The file is called
UPDATEME.EXE and is located where the monthly update files are
normally found. Alternately, you may call Customer Service at (800)
441-7234 to obtain the NAV July 1995 Update disk.

                       Loading External Definitions

NOTES:

  - The most recent virus definition update is required to use these
     external repair files.

  - You must copy the external repair files to your NAV Rescue Disk.
This procedure should only be attempted on a known virus-clean computer.

  - The external repair defintions included in this file will only work
with the DOS version of the Norton AntiVirus 3.0. They will not work
with the Windows version of Norton AntiVirus 3.0.

  - You will notice a significant decrease in scanning speed when these
files are in the Norton AntiVirus 3.0 directory.

==========================================================================

To add the Norton AntiVirus 3.0 external virus definitions:

  1. Copy the desired .DAT files into the Norton AntiVirus 3.0 directory.

  2. Scan a drive with Norton AntiVirus 3.0 for DOS.
This will determine the virus-state of the computer.
      - If a virus is detected, stop here and contact Technical Support for
        further instructions.
      - If no virus is detected, continue with procedure 3.

  3. If the compter scans clean (no virus is detected), create a Rescue
      Disk.
Please see Chapter 4 of your User's Guide, "Maintaining a Rescue
Disk" for instructions on how to create of Rescue Disk.

  4. Copy the desired .DAT files to the Rescue Disk.

  5. Write-protect the diskette.
      - With 3.5-inch diskettes, slide the tab on the back side of the
diskette so that hole is exposed.
      - With 5.25-inch diskettes, cover the notch on the right side of the
        diskette.
      This will prevent virus infection.

You have updated your Norton AntiVirus 3.0 with the external repair files
and created a fully updated Norton AntiVirus 3.0 Rescue Disk!

TIP: If you unzipped this file inside your \NAV directory, (\NDW for
users of Norton Desktop for Windows), then step 1 is already
completed. If you unzipped this file in a different directory, copy
the extracted files to your \NAV directory. If prompted to overwrite
      existing files, select Yes.
