Norton AntiVirus 3.x

How to disable the NAV AutoProtect

There are some software products that require anti-virus programs to be
disabled in order to install them. This can be accomplished by numerous
ways.

Using hot keys to disable the AutoProtect:

You can disable the NAV AutoProtect by holding down both ALT Keys
(by default) when you reboot your system. Press the Reset button or hold
down CTL+ALT+DEL keys at the same time. When you hear a beep, hold down both
ALT keys. You will see a message on your screen that the Norton AntiVirus
Intercept has been disabled.

By default the Alt keys are setup as the bypass hot keys, but you can changes
these within the NAV program.

Editing your CONFIG.SYS file:

Using a text editor (EDIT, EDLIN, COPY CON, etc) you can REM (remark) out NAV
of config.sys file. The line would look something like this, (after the REM)
, REM DEVICE = C:\NAV\NAVTSR.EXE, and just reboot your system.

NAVSETUP:

In the NAV directory there is a program called NAVSETUP.EXE that can disable
or enable the different Norton AntiVirus options. To run this program type
NAVSETUP from any prompt (as long as NAV directory is part of your path
statement). You will see three buttons on your screen Video and Mouse,
Startup Programs, and Quit.

Choose the Startup Programs button and then press the Enter key.

Any line with a check mark on it, indicates that this option is
active. To deactivate an option, use your down arrow key to
highlight the item you want to deactivate and press the Spacebar.

To disable the Intercept, remove the check mark from Intercept virus\
        activity line.

When you have finished making charges, choose the Save button, and
then choose the Quit button. Then reboot your system.

Note:	That your drive designation and path may be different depending on
        where you have NAV installed.
