Norton AntiVirus 3.x

What files are needed to run NAV 3.0 from a floppy?

These are the only files you will need to run Norton AntiVirus 3.0 from a
floppy diskette:

File Names:
 		NAV.EXE
 		NAV.OVL
 		EXCLUDE.DAT
 		INSCANF.DAT
 		INSCANB.DAT
 		INSCANM.DAT
 		NAVDEF.DAT	(optional)
 		NAVOPTS.DAT
 		VIRSCAN.DAT
VIRSCAN.INF	(optional, this file contains virus
                                 information library)

This will allow you to Scan the hard drive or floppy drives other than the
where Norton AntiVirus is loaded from. Remember, that your protection
against viruses is only as good as the virus definitions you have on the disk. Symantec updates the virus definitions on a monthly basis.

To update your virus definitions you can download them from Symantec BBS,
CompuServe, America On Line, or order them though customer service
(800-441-7234). To determine your last virus definition list, start or
activate NAV. Select the Tools pull down menu (Alt+T) and select the Virus
List option. At the bottom of this screen you will find the virus definition
list date. This date will let you know when the last update definition
was added to Norton AntiVirus 3.0.

For further information on how to download new virus definitions from
Symantec's BBS get the fax document no. 4212.

How to update virus definitions on a floppy diskette:

Symantec's Norton AntiVirus recommends that you update the virus definitions
to your hard drive first, then copy these files to your diskette:

Copy VIRSCAN.DAT and VIRSCAN.INF to your local hard drive NAV
        directory.

From NAV directory, Run NAV.EXE. Type NAV C:\ and press enter.

 	Copy VIRSCAN.DAT and VIRSCAN.INF, INSCANF.DAT, INSCANM.DAT, and
        INSCANB.DAT to your floppy.

These files must be copied after you activate a scan, this way your
INSCAN*.DAT files will be updated. They will not be updated if you just
copied them to your floppy.

Note: Anytime you write to a diskette, there is always a chance that this
diskette can be infected. Make sure to use all precautions when copying
files to this diskette.
