NORTON ANTIVIRUS 3.0
COMMON QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

How do I disable the NAVTSR ?

	1. DOS TSR:

Hold down both ALT keys when you boot up the computer. Keep holding
them down until you see a message that the Norton AntiVirus Auto
        Protect did not load.

Remark the device=C:\NAV\NAVTSR.EXE line in the config.sys file.
	For example: rem device=c:\nav\navtsr.exe

	2. Windows TSR:

Double-click the AutoProtect icon from either the lower left hand
side of the Windows Desktop, or double-click the AutoProtect icon
from the Norton Anti Virus program group. Then click the Unload
        button.

Remark C:\NAV\NAVTSRW.EXE from the LOAD= line in the WIN.INI file.
	For example: ;load=c:\nav\navtsrw.exe

Windows gives the message Can not find file?

	1. There is a extra space on the LOAD= line in the WIN.INI.
Using any text editor, open the WIN.INI file. Locate the LOAD= line,
and then delete the extra space. When you restart Windows, you will
        not see the message.

Windows gives the message Autoprotect Self-Test failed

	1. Free up more conventional memory. (Give them the basics about how
to do this; for instance, run chkdsk, if the largest exe is below
470K, then reconfigure memory to increase this. Check your DOS or
memory manager documentation for how to do this. Or, if you are going
to refer to other faxes in this doc, refer to the a-p self test
        failed fax.)

	2. Corrupted fonts can also cause a problem. (How do you deal with
this one? I would suggest you say something like, reinstall the
fonts program or whatever one needs to do.)

Can I load NAVTSR (Autoprotect) into high memory ?

	1. Modify the CONFIG.SYS file by changing the
        DEVICE=C:\NAV\NAVTSR.EXE to INSTALL=C:\NAV\NAVTSR.EXE.
Mention that you can load navtsr from the autoexec.bat

	2. Run NAV.EXE, select the Tools Options command.
		a. Select the category AUTOPROTECT.
		b. Choose the Startup button.
		c. Turn on the HMA and UMB memory options only.
[ Note: Norton AntiVirus can not be loaded high by any other method. ]

What are the minimal files that are need to be loaded either from floppy
  or hard drive?

	NAV.EXE - The scanner!
	NAV.OVL - Primary overlay

INSCANB.DAT - Boot Sector infection data
	INSCANM.DAT - Memory infection data
	VIRSCAN.DAT - Virus definitions

Make sure you have the latest definition loaded before copying these files
to make a NAV diskette.

  Where to get definitions?

 	1. Definitions are available on diskette, either via subscription
(the SAV-U program) or singly, by contacting Customer Service at
        (800) 441-7234 (United States and Canada) or on-line at America
Online, CompuServe, Symantec BBS, and the internet addresses
(ftp.symantec.com/public/windows/nav or www.symantec.com/public/windows/nav).

Definition are posted at the beginning of each month on the different
BBS services.
