WARHAMMER 40K Quake, By the Wonder Cousins

This is probably the first mod Alberto (my cousin) and I (Juanjo) will be
releasing together. I must admit that by now he has done 99.99% of all the new
codes and programming, I would say "I want this and this", and he would answer
"oh, that's easy" and have it done before I had time to eat a Dreadnought (doughnout).
But I'm learning, and soon I will be able to join the programming team (right
now composed by Alberto). What I've done so far is making some levels, working
hard on some new models, recording a couple new sounds, and having the general
idea of how the mod should look.
Alberto: This is not true. Ideas are from him, new models, new sounds, new
maps and many more things are from him. I just do the programing part, some
sprites and ideas of models, sounds, and some ideas are mine.

This is (or will be) a total conversion based on GAMES WORKSHOP's great
tabletop game Warhammer 40K, set in the 41st milennium, in which constant
warfare for survival is everyday's life. You take the role of a Space Marine:
a genetically tailored super-human with an unbreakable morale, and whose only
wishes are to take war to the enemies of Humankind. For now, you will wear
Terminator Armor, but who knows, maybe in future releases we will take the
time to create a MK VII model Armor, together with all the weapons it would
require. Multiskin will be supported, so that you can choose to belong to one
of eight different Space Marine Chapters (there will be ten different skins,
but three of them will be from the same chapter: the fierce sons of Russ, the
SPACE WOLVES), and also, if we make the MK VII Armor, we will include a skin
for the Adepta Sororitas (she-Marines, as if to say).

Anyway, this is far to be finished, in fact it's just at the beggining. We
already have the .QCs for almost all the new weapons, and maybe we release
some of them as soon as they're completed with new models and sounds. This
text file will describe more or less what will be in the mod, and it will be
updated with all of Alberto's or mine future releases, so that you can see
our progresses. And now, let's start that brief description...

Terminator Arsenal, compiled from the Codex Astartes, entry 4512A.89076-NM:

1 - CHAIN FIST: "The fury of the Marines in hand to hand is almost as good
a weapon as their taintless devotion to the Emperor. The Chain Fist
resembles a Power Glove with a chain saw attached to it, combining
the great capacity for inflicting damage of a saw, with the crackling
power of the Energy Field surrounding the Glove."

A close combat weapon. Actually, we don't know if we will make
it like the ogre's chain saw, or like doom's one (either a continual
chopping to the front, or moving it from side to side in the hopes
of hitting someone with it). You can mail us, and if we feel generous,
we'll even make a vote list to make you believe you can decide it
yourselves...but don't let this fool you, in the end we will
make it how we like it, be it one way or the other.

Alberto: Just remember geneastealers and other enemies are much
tougher than what you think so it is best not to use it to fight
	    them.

	2 - STORM BOLTER: "A good-performance, highly-reliable, rapid-firing weapon
which is the standard weaponry of every Space Marine in Terminator
Armor. It fires relativeley long bursts of explosive shells. These
shells are self-propelled 10mm cartridges, which upon sprouting from
the weapon ignite and impact the opponents of the Marine, sinking
on them a bit before exploding and causing awful lots of damage."

As this will substitute your shotgun as most used weapon, and it will
eat-up lots of ammo, we will introduce a new way to store ammo: clips,
so that levels don't get full of bolter shell boxes. We will explain
the working of clips when need be. Also, you will have the option of
setting your feet firmly on the ground (not moving) to increase the
rate of fire of your weapon.

3 - HEAVY FLAMER: "The best way to bring death to the enemies of the Imperium,
is by the cleansing flames of the Legiones Astartes. This flamer
fires a double stream of highly-flamable liquid and due to its
ability to create walls of fire, and it's relatively short range,
it's priceless in the close combat fighting that is sure to
take place in Space Hulk boarding actions."

There are lots of different flamers out there in the market.
Some use sprites, and others make use of models...ours will
be made with the last one, an animated model made specifically
for it, and it will be really great. You will be able to set
everything alight (even water, after all, you're not shooting
fire, but highly-ignitable fuel which floats, so that upon falling
on water it would keep burning till it consumed almost all of it).
We are planning to make the necessary changes to the monsters AI
so that when they cought fire they sought out for water to put
it out, or at least palm theirselves for a couple of seconds,
or drop to the ground (we will make frames for this, of course),
so that you will no longer be able to light up that shambler (mainly
because there will be no shamblers), and run like hell with
mommy until the monster is nothing more than shambler-toast.
Alberto: Just remember that we may need to remove the world burning
part to avoid "packet overflow" messages.

4 - ASSAULT CANNON: "Feared throughout the galaxy by all intelligent races,
the roaring of the six barrels of the assault cannon means
destruction for the enemies of Mankind. It fires the same kind of
ammo Storm Bolters do, but it's contained in separate containers,
and due to the much higher rate of fire, it's able to anihilate
almost anything that comes in it's way."

This baby spits death like nuthin you've ever seen before. That it
fires storm bolter ammo doesn't mean they don't have separate ammo
sections in fact, the ammo of this weapon is not measured in single
rounds, but in full bursts of five shells, each inflicting more or
less the damage of an only Bolter shell(it will be 9 or 10, don't
know yet). It's able to put out a shambler in a second. But it's got
	 its drawbacks too...
First of all, it's like the good old super-nailgun, two seconds
	 firing and you're out of ammo (that means two shamblers, yeah);
appart from that, it's got a great recoil that reduces your maximum
speed when firing it, and makes it difficult to aim. Also,it builds
up heat very quickly, and cools down really slowly. You can fire it
no matter how hot it is, but you risk loosing the weapon, the ammo,
not to say your own life, in a Pyrotechnics display not ever seen
even in Valencia. Last but not least, the hotter it is, the harder
it is to aim. It's probably the most devastating weapon in the
Terminator's arsenal... and the funniest one too.

5 - GRENADE HARNESS: "This weapon is mounted on the back of the Terminator Armor,
giving it mid-range capabilities for mass-destruction. it's not
very accurate, though, so it's best used against large hordes
of creatures. It's intended for an open battlefield role, but
usage of it in boarding actions has revealed it's effectivenes
in this kind of fighting, as the walls of the passages tend
concentrate the three grenades, making them deadlier against
a single opponent, or several of them advancing in a packed
	 group."

Although it fires normal grenades, it lets fly voleys of
three of them, raining death upon your enemies. It always
fires the grenades three at a time, and they sprout from your
back (for those of you who didn't know, this weapon is mounted
on your back, not hand-carried, and it's activated with impulses
right from your brain). It may be more difficult to aim, and
more risky to use, but hey, this is a total conversion, with
lots of new levels...hopefully they will be built with the new
	 weapons in mind.

6 - CYCLONE MISSILE LAUNCHER: "This is a non-hand portable missile launcher,
mounted also on the back of the Armor, so that the Marine has
his hands free to wield another weapon. It makes use of a
perfectionated laser sight, making it one of the most accurate
weapons in the hands of anyone, not to speak of the already superior
firing abilities a Space Marine is gifted with. It fires salvoes
of missiles, making it another excellent weapon for mass-destruction.
Unluckly, the Cyclone is almost useless inside a Space Hulk, where
the Marine is as likely as be hitting himself or his comrades, as he is
to destroy his enemies. So, it's purpose is general devastation
in open battlefields and confrontations, where it's one of the
deadlier weapons any Race has ever devised."

Did I call the Assault Cannon "the most devastating weapon in a
	 Terminator's arsenal"?...well, then I was really wrong.
The cyclone is another back-mounted weapon which fires salvoes
of one to six missiles. Each missile is fired with a 0.1 delay
from the last one fired, and they are fired not from the same
point, but from different ones. It takes longer to reload than
the normal missile launcher (longer self.attack_finished), but
it's worth it. It's more difficult to aim than the regular
launcher too, but it's got it's own targeter (laser sight) to
	 help you solve this problem.

7 - VORTEX GRENADE: "These grenades are one of the most dangerous weapons
the Adeptus Mechanichus has ever created. After exploding, a rift
between our own dimension and the Warp is opened, and it sucks
anything close to it to the warp, meaning instant death. Also, it's
highly uncontrollable after it has exploded, which means it's a
double-edged weapon. Dangerous to use, but even so really useful to
send big enemies hardly damageable with normal weapons to hell."

A jewel. Basically, it creates a rift upon exploding, between
our dimension and a parallel one called "the warp", which takes
the form of a flowing ball of anti-matter. Anything which comes
in contact with it is automatically gibbed. Also, after the ball
has been created, it doesn't simply disappear, it keeps existing
(and moving in a random way) for a while...leaving a path of
nothingness behind it. It's quite dangerous, but quite powerful
as well, just be sure it won't catch you when you use it.

As you can see, the number of weapons will be reduced from eight to six
(see Vortex grenades more like power ups than weapons, cause they will be
really scarce). The only other weapons we could think of were close combat
ones, and we thought that one of this kind is enough, but who knows, maybe in
the end we will add a couple lightning claws to the pack, or a thunder hammer
and storm shield...que sera, sera...

Alberto: At least now I'm working on several grenade types so you may be
able to use them for several uses: smoke grenades, light grenades, radiation
grenades, and so on, so Terminator Marines will be the best equiped... and
the deadlier also.
Juanjo: the grenade harness is only able to use normal fragmentation grenades.
The other types will be thrown with your hand, one at a time. Terminators
don't wear most of this grenades as standard(they don't need them) expect
to see some of them only in the hands of MK VII Power Armor clad Marines.

Tactical Dreadnought Armor, extract of the Codex Astartes, entry
6780H.26721-JD:

Being the toughest personal armor in the whole galaxy, Tactical Dreadnought
Armor (or Terminator Armor, as it is also known) offers the ultimate
deffenders of Humankind a formidable weapon to do their job. The armor
incorporates several pieces of equipment as standard, being among these:

1 - BUILT-IN TARGETER: "All who feels the red dot of the Emperor's mark
will tremble in fear, 'cause they will know that their corrupt
ways have at last came to an end."

Well, this is just an advanced laser sight, using even
animations, and telling you the class of your enemy, and its
health remaining. Personally, I think that being this as cool
as patch as it is, it just makes the game easier, somewhat
killing the fun, but it's standard in terminator armor, so it
was a must including it. Also, without it, the Cyclone wouldn't
be as useful. The only thing you have to do when you get tired
of it is disconnecting it, or some of its functions.
Alberto: Some of the code from the targeter and from the spotlight
are from someone called Eli. And also we've modified it to work
	    as we think best.

2 - BREATHERS AND AIR SUPPLY: "A Marine is completely sealed in his Armor,
so that he can even take war to the enemies of the Imperium in the
	 endless vacuum of open space."

This means that you can't drown when underwater, or submerged in
slime, or lava, though you suffer damage from this two as usual.
Alberto: Well, we thought slime don't affect terminator marines, and
	 so...

3 - SPOTLIGHT: "Having donned his Armor, a Marine will never be impeded to
fight, not even the darkest darkness will stop him from crushing
	 those who threat Humankind security's."

This is our own version of the spotlight, it has a limited range
(something about 400 units), and its composed not by one, but two
light-emiting entities, thus creating a much more realistic effect.
We will release this as part of another mod before, so that you can
see if you like the effect or not. Also, the monsters Ai will be
modified, so that just seeing a light will make them angry at you.
Oh, and don't think this will be just for show, there will be
pitch-dark levels in which you will have to rely almost solely
on your spotlight for seeing... so learn to use it.

4 - SENSORIUM: "The Marine needs to know the wherabouts of his enemy even
when he doesn't see it, so that its evil intents of ambush will
always be spoiled when fighting the proudest sons of the Emperor."

This is the great radar mod by Howard Roy. it has been changed
a little to suit the atmosphere of our mod, but mainly in a graphical
aspect. It's worse than Howard's radar, because it doesn't make
a difference between enemies on your same height level, and those
who aren't. We made this, because we loved that sequence in Aliens
in which the Colonial Marines keep looking at their motion trackers
not knowing where the xenomorphs are, and then Hicks suddenly
realizes that they're in the ceiling.
Alberto: Probably I will modify it not to detect some enemies. So
remember not to depend only on it. I had changed some of the code
to fit better (allows more than 20 radars). And also, it allows
you to fire your weapon while using it.

5 - LONG-RANGE COMM UTILS: "A Marine is never left unheard by the
all-hearing ears of the Emperor of Mankind, or his brother Marines."

This will be of little use in the player's side, but, unluckly
for you, there are Traitor Space Marines clad in Terminator Armor
which upon seeing you, will inform of your position to all their
fellow Space Marine Renegades, which may have really ill results
	 for you.

6 - HOMING TLEPORTER DEVICE: "Nothing is as terryfing to the enemies of
Humankind as watching the Armed arm of the Emperor teleporting in
front of them spreading the seeds of peace with their Storm Bolters."

This will allow you to deploy a teleport homer, to which you will
be able to teleport at any time, providing you are in given range
from it. But beware: this is far from being a reliable tool, it takes
about thirty seconds to be armed, after it has been deployed, and
after hitting the key to teleport, the machine will need about
ten seconds to catch telemetry, beam you to your ship, and then
to the Hulk again, so that you can't make your way out of ambushes
as easily as it was with the teleporters out there. This is also what
makes you able to be teleported from open battlefields instead of
having to be shipped up, but this will have really no reflect on the
	 game itself.

We will include other patches out there as well, like shell-ejecting,
sound steps, or crouching, but don't even dream of a Marine lovingly taking
after his cujo, or throwing grappling hooks around (though some creatures
might, do you know what a Lictor is?...well, you will learn it in time...)

Alberto:
Now every monster has a new ability flag which possible values are:
   0. Means a normal started monster.
   1. Means a walking started monster.
   2. Means a monster started looking after you.
   4. Monster is random. Random monster corpses disappear after a while.
   8. Monster not detected with the sensorium (allows ambushed enemies).

There would be also monster generators (well, they are only points were a
random monster may appear).

And finally for the monsters part, listed in order of appearance:

Enemies of the Imperium, an extract of the Racia Intelligae By Inquisitor
Haggart, entry 2539U.82261-KQ:

1 - GENESTEALERS: "Who knows where this horror comes from. What is sure is
that they are there, as sure as extermination is the only way Mankind
can take to defend against this threat...and is an almost imposible
task, even for the might of the Legiones Astartes."

New models: Purestrain Genestealers, several sorts of Hybrids,
	    Genestealer Patriarch.

2 - TRAITOR LEGIONS: "They are the greatest loss of the Imperium in our long
war against the forces of Chaos, the Heresy is something deeply
nailed in our hearts. These are the fallen comrades of the Space
Marines, twisted and warped by the mutating forces of Chaos. The only
way to bring peace to their tortured souls is by absolving them...
	 with death."

New models: Three or four Terminator-clad Traitor Marines, and
another couple Chaos Marines in MK VII Power Armor, all of them
with several skins for each of the main four Traitor Space Marine
	    Legions.

3 - CHAOS: "The Big enemy, the one that lurks within ourselves always
ready to strike at the walls we make to defend against it, and bring
madness to our minds, and evilness to our souls. How many have fallen
under its corrupting influence?, how many will let themselves be
fooled by the promises of power? It's only the Iron Will of the
Emperor himself what gives me the courage to keep fighting against it
day after day, year after year, until my soul joins the ones of my
	 brothers."

New models: Demons, both Greater and Lesser, of all four Powers
of Chaos, Corrupted Imperial Guard Platoons with different
skins representing divisions, and the Chaos Power they
worship, Beastmen with several skins to make them look
	   cooler

4 - TYRANIDS: "Another threat Humanity has just discovered. Little is known
about this creatures, but if they're not stopped on time, they will
consume everything with their never-ending appetite for raw living
material for their alien bio-constructions. But, can any of the
living races in the universe, even the destructive forces of Chaos,
oppose this all-consuming horde?...I doubt it, and that fills my
	 heart with sorrow..."

New models: Genestealers with different animations and skins,
Carnifexes, Hyve Tyrants, Lictores, different Hyve warriors,
Biovoros (I don't know if this is the English name of this one,
but it's some kinda living mortar which fires intelligent mines),
	    Termagants, Hormagants, and Gargoyles.

5 - ELDAR: "This race has been living more than we have, and they are a
dying people. Anyhow, they've got such a vast knowledge...it's a
shame they don't trust Humanity enough to share it."

All right, I (Juanjo) don't want to make eldar as enemies, I think
it will be really difficult to simulate their swift moves, and
that their slim silhouettes are not suited for this game, but Alberto
wants them in, so maybe we will end up doing them. Anyway, they will
be the last ones on which I turn my efforts.

Alberto: Alright. I think that in future releases we will work in
them. Right now we have a lot of work to do. Maybe later we would
be able to make some expansion for them.

6 - ORKS & GRETCHINGS: "One of the most warlike races in the galaxies,
destruction seems to be implanted in their very genetic code. They
are strange, and have weird costumes. But when they rise, they do it
with a strength matched by no other race, luckily, they use that
strength to fight between themselves most of the time."

I (Juanjo) don't like orks, I may laugh with them, but I will never
even think of fielding an ork army. But Alberto loves them on the
other side, so, who knows...at least they will not see the light
	 for a really long time.

Alberto: I like them a lot. This greenskinned stupid (most of them)
creatures are something like a man with strengh. I would like to
work with it to do a patch, but this greenskinned creatures
create the strangest weapons ever thinked of. Maybe in a future release
I (we) would be able to do some kombyweapons for them.

7 - OTHER RACES: "There are infinite other intelligent races inhabiting our
galaxy, but they are too few in number to be considered a threat for
Humankind, and so I will not speak of them in this volume. Anyway,
there is much to learn from this exotic cultures... pity we must
dedicate our efforts to war, and not to knowledge."

Yeah, I know, Squats, Imperial Guards... where are they?...C'mon,
have you stopped to count the number of new models we've got in mind?
well, they're so many that until a couple centuries have passed we
	 will not have it finished.

Well, so that's it, I guess. The order in which I have listed the models is
the one in which we will create them. Also, together with every bunch of
models, we will release an episode containing about five levels using the new
models and some of the already created ones. If you have read this whole text
file, then I guess you are interested in this mod. If this is your case, feel
free to mail me (Juanjo) at this addreses (sorry, but Alberto's got no mail):

	WH40Q@lettera.skios.es
	WH40Q@hotmail.com

We mainly need people willing to cooperate with us bulding new levels, or
at least sharing with us ideas to make these new levels, or sketches of them.
Of course, due credit will be given to all who, knowingly or not, have
contributed to this mod, mainly id for the great game itself, and Games
Workshop, for the magnificent Universe in which to set the mod.

One more thing: we will work on this as fast as we can, but we are busy
role-players and students, so don't expect this to be done in an afternoon.
As said before, with all our mid-time releases, we will include this file, and
a WH40Qup.txt file containing anything new we've devised, as well as what is
made and what's not, but the first expansion, the one about Genestealers,
shouldn't take long, and from them on we won't need (m)any code rewritten,
only the new .QCs for the new monsters, which in most cases is not really
difficult to make, and the models and textures themselves (and levels, of
course), so, patience.

Alberto: You everyone read him: easy to make monster. Well remember we must
program new AI and weapons. And maybe we should use new ideas.

The Wonder Cousins are: Juanjo Mejias Moreno
				 &
			Alberto Mejias Martos

(There's an inner discussion in the
family of wether Mejias is spelt
with "g" or "j", and we belong to
	different parts, so...)
(Alberto: Well. Mejias is really spelt with "g" but the
stupid bureaucracy changed it to "j").
	(Juanjo: blah, blah, blah)
(Oh, and in Spain we use a different way to write names,
making use of generally an only name, and two surnames,
this is Alberto's case (my whole name is Juan Jose, Juanjo
	is like Rich for Richard)).

Alberto: I'm working on a displacer field. At least now it doesn't work
(at least on players). If anytime it works, it will be released on future.
If it doesn't work on players it will be released to use by some enemies.
I think this is all. Now we're waiting your mails with ideas, and so.
