Hello,

Over the last few months, I've rewritten the TeleFragged documents (namely
that big, unorganized Hosting Letter that you all own).

I've split the documents into two files now, the TeleFragged Hosting
Letter, a must-read, short and quick text file that gives you what you need
to know if you are part of the TeleNation (and you all are I would have to
assume).

The other piece of literature is the new TeleFragged Hosting Guide. This is
definitely not something you need to read completely as it weighs in at 16
pages. I do recommend reading over the Table of Contents, the requirements,
and the section about the Community and Administration sections.

Another thing, Site Flashes (Site News, the headlines on TeleFragged's main
page) has changed. It is now TeleFragged-only and the hosted sites of the
TeleNation sites can no longer use it, although the actual TeleNation sites
can use it. You must access it through the new Administration section and
the character limit (20 before) has been increased to 35 characters. Site
Flashes is currently shut off on TeleFragged due to the implementation of
this new system (no news.dat's anymore) and will probably be turned on
tomorrow morning again if all goes well.

Both of the new writings have been included, the Hosting Letter in text
format, the Hosting Guide in Word and text format (Word is recommended as
the text conversion did not turn out well, an HTML version will more than
likely be made available on the Community pages).

In a few short minutes, you will be receiving another E-mail detailing your
site's information and such things as Contact E-mail, username, Site URL,
and etc.

Send comments and the like to me, quakegod@telefragged.com.

Thanks!

P.S. I've painstakingly tried to make this as smooth as possible. I do
realize that having received a 130k Word document may not please many of
you (namely, those on LinuxGames) but it really is the only realistic way
of using the Hosting Guide in my opinion. Also, there are bound to be some
errors somewhere, please point them out to me. And please, do check out the
Community and Administration sections if only just once. I'm really hoping
the Administration Section catches on, then I'll add more to it.

1. Introduction

Welcome to the TeleNation my friend! This, the TeleFragged Hosting Guide, is
here to provide you with a detailed report of everything that is expected of you
and that we give to you in return. We are not expecting you to read through all
16 pages. No, this is just for reference, simply reading through the TeleFragged
Hosting Letter is enough to run your site. (Although, if it is ever raining out
and you are bored, I wouldn't mind it if you read through all 15 pages that I
wrote.)

It would be wise to glance over the Table of Contents, just to fully see what it
is that is offered. It would also be a wise choice to go to the TeleNation
Section (4) of this guide and read through that, and even go to the site.

So, without further ado, enjoy your stay at the TeleNation!

2. Requirements

We might as well get to the worst of it right off the back. There are certain
stipulations we put on the Web sites hosted by TeleFragged. These are not major
changes, just a few things that we need from you in order to continue to offer
the amount of services we offer to you.

These requirements are additional to the most primitive requirements of no
warez, no porn, no MP3's, and no illegal activities of any kind.

        2.1. Advertising Banner

On the main page of your Web site (be it an opening page, your news page, or
something entirely different), you must have the advertising banner on it. No
excuses. You may have it on more than one page, but it must be on the main page
no matter what. Also, it has to be on the top of the page, not hidden at the
bottom, but at the top. This advertising banner helps alleviate the costs of
running TeleFragged and keeps it afloat. It's as simple as that. This is how you
implement it onto your page:

Rename the page to a .shtml. For example, it was index.htm, rename it to
index.shtml.

The next step is to decide which genre your site falls in and add the
appropriate HTML code to your Web site where you wish the banner to appear:

Action - <!--#exec cgi="/banner/ads.pl"-->
Role-playing - <!--#exec cgi="/banner/bannerrpg.cgi"-->
Strategy - <!--#exec cgi="/banner/bannerstategy.cgi"-->
Simulation - <!--#exec cgi="/banner/bannersimulation.cgi "-->
Sports - <!--#exec cgi="/banner/bannersports.cgi"-->
Hardware - <!--#exec cgi="/banner/bannerhardware.cgi"-->
Adventure - <!--#exec cgi="/banner/banneradventure.cgi"-->

        2.2. 2-Month Policy

A very loose policy has been instated here at TeleFragged called the 2-Month
Policy. Simply stated, if you don't update your site for a straight two months,
you will be notified. Three days later and if there is no response, it will be
deleted. There are many exceptions to this policy however, such as running an
information based site where regular updates are no longer needed, or a
reasonable excuse (e-mailed to us or on the Web site) of not updating for awhile
such as, "I'm taking a 3 month, real-life vacation." The reason for this policy
is ensure that TeleFragged hosts only the best and top-of-line sites. Nothing
more, and nothing less.

        2.3. TeleFragged Link

Very straightforward and simple in nature, we would ask of you to put a link to
TeleFragged on your Web site. We host your Web site for free and a simple link
is not much. So just put a link to TeleFragged on your site either by using text
or the button graphic. If you are hosted through another TeleNation site, you
are not forced to link to us, it would be thoughtful to do so, but not
necessary.

3. Benefits

In contrast to the short, concise Requirements section, there is the wondrously
long Benefits section filled with nearly countless sub-sections.

Some of these benefits are limited to just TeleFragged-hosted sites, others
limited only to sub-domains (something.telefragged.com), while still others are
there for every hosted site of the TeleNation, and yet still others are for
everybody with a full email account within the TeleNation. So, as you can see,
there is a great variety.

Throughout the Benefits section, I provide Slade as the primary contact on most
of the following sub-sections in order to request whichever benefit it is you
desire. Keep in mind that you may also use the Web-based Administration section
(4.1).

Let us begin.

3.1. Web/HTTP

This first sub-section deals with benefits and enhancements you can do for you
hosted site that deals with the actual Web site.

        3.1.1. Unlimited Space
The most basic right to a hosted site upon the TeleNation is that of unlimited
space. You simply have as much space as you need for your Web site as you want.
Unlimited room for screenshots, graphics, text files, whatever you want as long
as it directly pertains to your Web site. Do not use it as a personal storage
area and definitely no warez or the like.

If you have archives, files that will be downloaded like .zip's and .exe's, then
please use the FTP server and put in a request for the FTP Space (3.2.1).
Putting such files on the Web server (within the htdocs directory) puts an
unnecessary strain on the Web server and will cause it to slow down massively.

                3.1.2. News Updating Script
Many sites have a news section within them as to allow visitors knowledge about
the current happenings inside the site. Available to certain sites on the
TeleNation is a news updating script that was written by our own Marv (Raven).

This script allows you to update news from a Web browser by going to a protected
site. You can post up to five news items at a single time that conform to your
site's look. This script takes away from the hassle of using an FTP client, a
HTML editor, and similar.

However, this script is difficult and time-consuming to setup. Thus, it is only
available to extremely high-end domains and sub-domains across the TeleNation
that update news regularly and greatly.

If your site is of such and you desire the News Updating Script, email Slade
(slade@telefragged.com) in the following format:

                        Subject is: News Updating Script
Body Contains: Site Name, Site URL, Username

There are a couple of other options for a News Updating Script, however,
TeleFragged provides no technical support for them.

        Fishman's News Script (contact: fishman@gamedesign.net)
Rising Sun Network's News Script (http://www.cnc2.com/scripts)

3.1.3. Web-based Management
Another site-setup that is available to sites is a completely Web-based
management system. With it, you can add, delete, modify any files inside your
Web directory (htdocs).

Basically, it gets rid of the use of an FTP client and allows you to work from
anywhere with a Web browser.

The Web-based Management script is available to any site inside the TeleNation.
If you do want the Web-based Management script, send an email to Slade
(slade@telefragged.com) in the following format:

                        Subject is: Web-based Management
Body Contains: Site Name, Site URL, Username

3.1.4. FrontPage Support
Microsoft's FrontPage provides support to be a complete Web site management
system. In order to use it, your Web site on the TeleNation must be setup
properly.

As everything in your Web site will be controlled by Frontpage, no FTP client
can be used (similar to the Web-based Management system) and you need FrontPage
in order to update your site.

If FrontPage support is what you want and are looking for, email Slade
(slade@telefragged.com) in the following format:

                        Subject is: FrontPage Support
Body Contains: Site Name, Site URL, Username

                3.1.5. Counters
Two counters are offered to all sites on the TeleNation.

To use the text counter, the Web page in which it is placed needs to have a
.shtml extension. Place the following HTML code into the page exactly as it is:

                <!--#exec cgi="/cgi-bin/counter.cgi"-->

A graphical counter is available as well. Simply place this code on to the page
and change http://www.yoursiteurl.com to whatever your actual URL is.

<IMG
SRC="http://www.telefragged.com/cgi-bin/nph-count?width=5&link=http://www.yoursiteurl.com"
BORDER=0>

3.1.6. Voting Script
As web sites are based off of public response, a poll is an item of value. The
voting script offered by TeleFragged is simple in design. It consists of a main
page that lists the current questions and lower, the past questions. Upon the
next page is the question along with the selections a person can make.

The administration section of the voting script is easy to use. Colors can be
designed to fit the Web site, as well.

To have the voting script setup for your site, either use the Administration
Section (4.1) or email Slade (slade@telefragged.com) in the following format:

                        Subject is: Voting Script
Body Contains: Site Name, Site URL, Username, Desired Title of
  Voting Script

3.1.7. Message Boards
A message board is an extremely popular feature that a Web site can manage, if
used correctly. Due to such a wide variety of styles, TeleFragged offers two
different and totally unique boards.

Here are two URL's to each individual forum:

                        http://www.worldwidemart.com/scripts/wwwboard.shtml
http://www.ultimatebb.com/ (Freeware Version)

In order to have one of the message boards installed for your use, either use
the TeleNation Administration Section (4.1) or email Slade
(slade@telefragged.com) in the following format:

Subject is: Message Board WWWBoard or Ultimate
Body Contains: Site Name, Site URL, Username, Desired Title of
                                          Message Board

                3.1.8. Search Engine

Many sites have the capability of being searched. And many of the other sites
want that ability. It is with this particular script that we offer actually, not
just a general, single-site searching mechanism, but one that searches all of
the TeleNation.

Because of this, the more sites that use it, the greater general promotion of
each site on the TeleNation is. So, if you use it, you are not only benefiting
yourself, but all of TeleFragged and all of the TeleNation.

There are two ways to put the Search Engine on your site. The first is just to
simply link the site:

        http://search.telefragged.com

The other way is to setup a HTML Form on your page and to have a nice little box
for your visitors:

<form method="post" action="http://search.telefragged.com/cgi-bin/htsearch">
<input type="text" size="15" name="words" value="">
</form>

        3.2. Files/FTP

The Files/FTP subsection of this document contains general information about the
FTP server and how it can (and at times, must be used) to your Web site's
benefit.

                3.2.1. FTP Space
A "FTP Space" refers to a new account apart from your usual Web login account.
It is generally used to login in to the FTP server (ftp://ftp.telefragged.com)
and from there used to upload files to it.

No site is allowed archives (.zip's, .exe's, etc) on the Web server (in the
htdocs directory)! This means that if you want to put a file up for the masses
to download, you must have an FTP Space account. There are no exceptions.

To request an FTP Space, please use the Administration Section (4.1) or
send an E-mail to Slade (slade@telefragged.com) with the following formatting:

                        Subject is: FTP Space
Body Contains: Site Name, Site URL, Username

                3.2.2. Mirrors
With your files located on the FTP Server, they are subject to be mirrored. This
means that the files will be available from several different locations
throughout the world.

This is an automatic process that requires nothing on your part other than
uploading files via the FTP Space login. Mirrors are generally updated once a
day.

Here is a list of our current mirrors:

        ftp://ftp.telefragged.com/pub
ftp://ftp.epix.net/pub/telefragged
ftp://ftp.saix.net/pub/telefragged

        3.3. E-mail

E-mail is a very critical function of any Web site, it is the best and most
popular means of contacting the Webmaster of any given site. With that said, we
at TeleFragged like to provide many options for Electronic Mail.

3.3.1. Full E-mail Account
This is the most familiar type of E-mail. Basically, you are given a username
and a password and that acts as your E-mail account
(username@telenationsite.com).

You can have one per person on your team for your Web site. Simply use the
Administration Section (4.1) or email Slade (slade@telefragged.com) as follows:

                        Subject is: Full E-mail Account
Body Contains: Site Name, Site URL, Username, Desired
  E-mail address

3.3.2. Forwarding E-mail Account
If you already have an E-mail account elsewhere upon the Internet and wish to
keep it and just use that one, but also want to have an E-mail account on
TeleFragged, there is the Forwarding option.

This account let's you have an alias for a TeleFragged account that when mail is
sent to this account, it is automatically forwarded to your usual E-mail
account.

In order to get a Forwarding E-mail Account, please use the Administration
Section (4.1) or email Slade (slade@telefragged.com) with the following
parameters:

                        Subject is: Forwarding E-mail Account
Body Contains: Site Name, Site URL, Username, Current E-mail
  address, Desired E-mail address

3.3.3. Team E-mail Account
Once you have E-mail accounts setup (either through TeleFragged or elsewhere)
then your team can have Team E-mail Accounts.

These simply allow for one E-mail address to forward E-mail to more than one
account which is extremely useful for sending E-mail to a whole team or for
having people send news to all of your Webmasters. There are many uses.

To get a Team E-mail Account set up for you, simply send an E-mail to Slade
(slade@telefragged.com) with this format:

                        Subject is: Team E-mail Account
Body Contains: Site Name, Site URL, Username, Desired
E-mail address, List of all E-mail address to be added

                3.3.4. Mailing Lists
A Mailing Lists allows for a large group of people from all across the Internet
to discuss any particular topic(s). A Mailing List is practically useless with a
small group, but does wonders if many people get involved with it and the List's
goal.

When you are 100-percent positive that a Mailing List is what you need and want
(they require you to administer them), email Slade as follows:

                        Subject is: Mailing List
Body Contains: Site Name, Site URL, Username

                3.3.5. Web-based E-mail Checking
In an effort to ease the pains of checking your mail while you are away from
your usual computer and lacking an email client, TeleFragged is now providing a
Web-based method of checking your E-mail within a Web browser.

First, you must have a full E-mail Account (3.3.1) with TeleFragged in order for
it to work. Secondly, go to this URL:

        http://www.telefragged.com/webmail/

Login in using the username of your E-mail account and its password. The rest
should be explained on the site.

        3.4. General Promotion

When your site is hosted by TeleFragged ("by TeleFragged" means that your are
directly hosted with TeleFragged, not another TeleNation site, although some of
these do apply to all sites under the TeleNation.) you are subject to site
promotion, a key factor in getting your site popular.

We try our best to get sites promoted, and I am sure that some of you have other
ideas on how to promote your site and we would love to here them! Drop an E-mail
to Slade (slade@telefragged.com) with your idea.

        3.4.1. In Focus

Every week of every year, we attempt to bring a new article and interview out
called In Focus. The premise of In Focus is to provide additional site coverage
to one site a week. In Focus is promoted in the TeleFragged's news and on most
of the sub-sections of the site.

To make In Focus more effective, it's best used when the site being focused on
is about to release something or perhaps launch a redesign. Sites that will be
doing something like this will take priority over other sites applying for In
Focus.

All that is required on your part is to provide the time for an interview along
with answering any questions that the writers may have about your site and/or
project.

To apply to be in In Focus, you must be hosted directly by TeleFragged or are an
actual TeleNation site, then email QuakeGod (quakegod@telefragged.com) with the
information as follows:

                        Subject is: In Focus
Body Contains: Site Name, Site URL, Reason why you should be
  a site on In Focus

        3.4.2. Advertising Banner

As a means to provide more hits to the sites that we host, we offer a separate
Advertising Banner in which you can post your own graphic so that people will
click and go to your site.

This is limited to just TeleFragged hosted sites and the TeleNation sites. If
you are one of these few and elite, design a graphic to be used. The dimensions
are 125 by 125 pixels. The maximum size can be 20 kilobytes and must be a GIF.
email Slade (slade@telefragged.com) in the following format along with the
attached GIF:

                        Subject is: Advertising Banner
Body Contains: Site Name, Site URL, Username

Note: In order to be part of this rotational banner system, you also must run
the banner system on your Web site. This is the HTML code you need (remember,
the file that this is located in must have .shtml extension).

        <!--#exec cgi="/internalbanner/banner.pl"-->

        3.4.3. Site Flashes

Upon going to TeleFragged, you will see a section called Site Flashes. Any site
hosted by TeleFragged or is one of the few TeleNation sites can place a short
caption underneath Site Flashes.

Site Flashes is meant for sites to have their own place on TeleFragged where
they can update about important news items that have occurred on their site; a
redesign, a new release, etc.

As this appears on TeleFragged's pages, abuse and immaturity are not tolerated
at all. You will be removed from it immediately and depending on what you did
with it, appropriate repercussions will come. So:

1. Don't just make updates saying "Hi", "Update," "Click Here."
    Try making it sound important.
        2. Don't update many times a day just to insure that your site is on
    top.
3. Don't use it to make help wanted requests.

To use the Site Flashes system then, you need to go to the Administration
Section (4.1). Once there, click on the link to Add to Site Flashes. Enter the
information asked for. There is a 35-character limit placed on the length that a
headline can be.

                3.4.4. Help Wanted

Located on TeleFragged's button bar is a link to the Help Wanted section. This
section is designed as a way for sites hosted by TeleFragged to put up Help
Wanted requests in order to draw people out of the community and into your team.

The Administration Section (4.1) is currently being adapted as the means to
control Help Wanted posts, however, those modifications are still not complete.
To have your request posted on the Help Wanted section, email QuakeGod
(quakegod@telefragged.com)

        Subject is: Help Wanted
Body Contains: Site Name, Site URL, Brief description of help
  needed

3.5. Programming

This Programming sub-section deals with all the programming support TeleFragged
offers. We attempt to offer the most services for both your Web site and for
other various things such as porting Quake 2 modifications to Linux.

3.5.1. Linux Mod Porting

With the introduction of Quake 2 modifications taking the form of Window DLL's,
portability has been an issue. With many games using the Quake 2 engine and the
DLL's for code modifications, Linux people have been left stranded due to the
inability of Windows-coders to recompile their code to Linux.

By not doing this, they are limited the amount of servers their modification can
have by at least half, as Linux servers are of an equal number of NT servers.

Raven (Marv) is offering his ability to recompile your modification to the Linux
platform. Just e-mail him (marv@linuxgames.com) asking if he would be willing to
port your modification.

3.5.2. Perl

Along with PHP (3.5.3), the TeleNation allows sites the use of Perl. I will now
quote Perl's homepage (http://www.perl.com):

Perl is an interpreted language optimized for scanning arbitrary text files,
extracting information from those text files, and printing reports based on that
information. It's also a good language for many system management tasks.

                3.5.3. PHP

In addition to Perl (3.5.2), the TeleNation also offers the ability to use PHP.
Instead of explaining to you, allow me to quote PHP's homepage
(http://www.php.net):

PHP is a server-side, cross-platform, HTML embedded scripting language. If you
are completely new to PHP and want to get some idea of how it works, have a look
at the Introductory Tutorial. (http://www.php.net/tut.php3)

        3.6. Miscellaneous

The Miscellaneous section is designed to deal with various items of interest
that do not fall into any of the other categories.

                3.6.1. .plan Files

We've all seen them, those famed .plans that almost every gaming company has and
nearly every person in the world it seems. Well, on TeleFragged and the
TeleNation, you too, can have a .plan.

The first step is to create a file named .plan. Make sure it is called .plan as
otherwise it won't work. Secondly, make sure you have a username/password on
TeleFragged whether it is for your Web site or is a Full E-mail Account (3.3.1).
FTP onto TeleFragged using that account's username and password. Upload the file
called .plan. If you have an htdocs directory, do not upload it into that
directory.

Once you have done this, you will now be able to finger yourself (no pun).
Simple open a Web browser and go to the following URL, just change the
"username" to the actual username that you used.

http://www.telefragged.com/cgi-bin/finger.cgi?username@telefragged.com

3.6.2. Log Files

From personal experience, having a method of checking over your Web site's hits
and views of all your pages is extremely nice. It shows you what is popular on
your Web page and what you should concentrate on.

This is why we offer these Log Files to all the sub-domains
(http://site.telefragged.com) and domains (http://www.site.com) on the
TeleNation.

To view your logs, go to http://logs.telefragged.com and login with the
username: telenation - password: hweruh2. Find your site's URL and click on it.
Log Files are deleted periodically.

4. TeleNation Section

The TeleNation Section is really a community-based site for all sites of the
famed TeleNation. It is designed to be used by you, the hosted site.

The main page of the site is a general TeleNation news site, containing
important announcements and such. This Hosting Guide can be found on it, for
quick reference.

The message board is another vital part of the TeleNation Section, providing a
forum for everyone in an effort to promote communication between the sites.
Thus, increasing cooperation, friendship, and adding a way to get your questions
answered by many people.

Another very important part of the TeleNation Section is the Administration
Section, explained in the next section.

The TeleNation Section is very easy to get to. Simply go to this Web page:

http://community.telefragged.com

        4.1. Administration Section

Via the Administration section, you, as a hosted site, are granted assess to the
many things that TeleFragged offers to hosted sites. The main use of this
administration section is provide a quick and easy way to apply for such things
as email aliases, message boards, etc. Please keep in mind that these are
requests, and thus are not completed immediately. A person on the other end
checks through all requests.

After logging in with your site's username and the contact E-mail address (it is
more than like that your E-mail address is your site's contact E-mail address),
you will be presented with a simple and straightforward Web site.

There will be a list of the things you can do, from changing your contact E-mail
address to requesting a Message Board (3.1.7). Click on the little bullet next
to each item and hit the Submit button, then you will be taken to the
appropriate page.

Each page for every item varies slightly, but should be fairly self-explanatory.
And of course, we still provide a more personal contact if the Administration
Section is not for you. Contact Slade (slade@telefragged.com) if you need
anything, he will forward the requests to the appropriate people inside of
TeleFragged. Though, requests have a better chance of being completed quicker if
requested through the Administration Section and not Slade as it requires one
less step.

To reach the Administration Section, go to this Web page (similar to the
TeleNation Section):

Abuse of any sort of the Administration Section is not tolerated.

6. Conclusion

Please accept my apologies. I wasn't expecting anyone to actually read through
all 15 pages of this document, therefore, I did not create a real conclusion.
Maybe in v2.0 I'll add a great, well-thought out conclusion.

Till then;
Bye, and welcome to TeleFragged's TeleNation!
