Solution to the ultra-difficult puzzle at the end of the wad Zombie Heart of Death.

Are you sure you want to see this?

Really really sure?

Here's the major hint again:

If shooting yourself in the foot seems like an odd thing to do, sometimes it pays off to be a bit odd.

I don't believe you. Don't you want to at least TRY to solve it on your own first?

I mean really, did you even try? If you're not really frustrated, go back and try again.

Did you shoot yourself?
You have to be healthy when you start shooting or you won't live through it...

Ok last chance -- you really want to know the answer?

Here's a big hint:
You have to shoot yourself a bunch of times from one angle, then shoot again from a diff angle in another room.

Ok. Here we go. Here's the solution.

After you've cleared out all the monsters in the Prairie Room
And pressed the red book to lower the barrier to the Art Glass Corridor,
You'll notice on the left of the corridor several slits.
SAVE THE GAME NOW. You'll probably need a number of tries to get through the puzzle.
NOTE: Do not go very far down the corridor! Stay near the entrance.

If you look through the first slit, you'll see a Marine -- yes it's you.
Orient yourself straight on to the slit, then
shoot yourself using the pistol -- about 7 times.
Everytime you hit yourself, your doppelganger self moves backwards
After about 6 times, go into the library
Again, you will see some slits in the wall on the right
You want to be a little to the right of the middle slit
and orient yourself to shoot at an angle backwards into the room.
Start shooting yourself again (I said you had to start healthy for this)
After 5-6 shots, if all the angles were right,
your doppleganger will drop out of sight and you will
suddenly, magically, have invulnerability
Quickly run to the Zombie Heart of Death
Now relax while you hear the explosion that would ordinarily kill you.

The big problem with this puzzle is that I made the angles too unforgiving.
There is little room for error, and once your doppelganger is out of position, you can't correct it,
hence the saved game at that point.

You can see the setup using IDCLIP. If you uses IDDT, you can see your progress
as you shoot yourself.

Yes, I did solve this many times without the cheats, but was certainly not 100% in doing so. I never successfully made a demo getting through the entire level and then solving the zombie puzzle.

At any rate -- enjoy!
