--------
Overview
--------

World Cup Manager is a Windows based game that i have been
working on for several months. You will notice when you play
it that it is still quite a long way from completion but it
is at least playable. Hopefully by the 31st of May 2002 we
shall have a complete and very addictive soccer management
game.

------------
Installation
------------
You will need Winzip to unpack the game: www.winzip.com

Extract all files in the zip to a folder.
(ie c:\games\wcm2002\)
Make sure the Teamdata.txt and WCM2002.exe are both
extracted into the same folder.
If you have a previous version of WCM2002, make sure you overwrite
the old files or delete them first.

The Game
--------

Edit Data Change any of the team detail or re-arrange
		the group tables

Manager Name	Enter your name or leave blank to use the
		real coach name

Choose Team	Pick your team

Realistic	Choose All Teams Equal if you want every
to have an equal chance of winning
Choose Realistic for more life-like results

Main Screen	On here you have several options

		-Training
		-Squad
		-Groups
		-Play

-View computer matches (Tick this if you
want to see running commentary during
		 computer matches)

--------
Training
--------

Concentrate On...

-Fitness (Will give your team extra Speed during
		  matches)
-Skills (Boost your Skill level during matches)
-Tactics (Improves decision making during matches)
-General (Increase all of the above)

Extra Work On...

	-Corners
	-Freekicks
	-Penalties

(Will give your team an advantage when the selected
situation occurs during a match)

Work Rate...
Set this meter to determine how rigorous you want
the training to be. The higher you set this the
more effect the training will have on your teams
performance, but your players Condition will
	decrease more quickly during matches.

------
Squads
------

You have two tabs:

-Team Formation

Here you can change your formation and re-arrange your
squad. Click on a player to highlight him, then on
another player to switch their positions. You can click
on the players on the pitch in the same way.

-Player Statistics

This gives you a detailed look at your squads abilities
and recent performances. Here are details of each stat:

PREF
POSITION This tells you which positions a player
is most suited to. If you play him
		somewhere other than his preferred
positions then it will have a detrimental
		affect on his abilities.

SKILL The higher this is the better! This tells
you just how much technique and ability
a player is capable of producing during
		a match.

SPEED If a player has the ball and his SPEED
is higher than his opponent, he is more
		likely to get past him.

EXPERIENCE	An experienced player will make much
better decisions during a match (i.e.
whether it would be better to Pass or
		Dribble)

CONDITION	If this gets too low then a player will
make more mistakes and will be less
		successful at getting past opponents.

FORM This shows you the last five match ratings
of a player. These can vary radically but
if a player is showing good form then he is
		more likely to play well.
		Remember - A player's current form is
equally as important as his ability.

Y Yellow cards collected
R Red cards collected
G Goals scored during the World Cup.

Freekicks	Choose your freekick specialist

Penalties	Choose your penalty taker

Corners Choose your corner taker

Groups

Click on the Tabs to see how each group stands.
Fixtures and results are also displayed here.

The Editor
----------

Obviously I don't know which teams will make it to
the World Cup finals in 2002, and the nature of football
means that squads are likely to change quite a bit
between now and the finals in May/June 2002, which is
why i have included the Data editor. The data from this
is stored in the file Teamdata.txt which you'll find in
your game folder.

-------------------
System Requirements
-------------------

Windows95 or higher.
Make sure your Screen Resolution is at least 800x600.

------------
Things to Do
------------

There are lots of things that i have yet to implement in
World Cup Manager. Here is a list of the things i will be
working on in the future. Please e-mail me if there are
other things you'd like to see included.

-A Save Game Option
-More intelligent Computer Managers
(At the moment they don't make substitutions or change
 tactics mid-match)
-Knock Out Stages
(This will take a lot of work as it means including
things like Extra Time, Golden Goals and Penalties in
the matches, plus a screen where you can view the Route
 to the Final)

--------------
Known Problems
--------------

At the moment i am aware of some resource leaks which means
if you run the game many times without rebooting or if you
are very low on RAM then strange things might happen like
disappearing bitmaps and icons. I am in the process of
tracking this bug down which should be gone by the next
release.
