Shanghai Mah-jongg Essentials
-----------------------------

version 1.1

company: Activision (www.activision.com)

homesite: unknown

All Mah-Jongg games saved on previous versions will NOT be useable
once the 1.1 patch has been installed. Saved games on previous
versions will work for all Shanghai tile-matching game modes. If you
have any saved mah-jongg games, delete them.

The patch will not work by itself; the patch must be installed over
your game which is already installed from the Shanghai: Mah-Jongg
Essentials CD. You must still have the CD in the drive whenever you
play.

Important: After the patch is installed, when you go to play online
you will only "meet" other players who also have installed the
patch.

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

The minimum system requirements are identical to the original
product, except for the hard disk space requirement, as follows:

MINIMUM INSTALLATION
The patch requires an additional 15 MB of uncompressed hard disk
space (6 megabytes for the downloaded patch itself and 9 megabytes
for new files installed to the game folder) if you used the minimum
installation option.

FULL INSTALLATION
The patch requires an additional 10 MB of uncompressed hard disk
space (6 megabytes for the downloaded patch itself and 4 megabytes
for new files installed to the game folder), if you used the full
installation option.

WHAT WAS CHANGED IN THIS PATCH

AMERICAN MAH-JONGG FIXES

Fixed errors in the 2000 AMJA card file. There were some hands
that were defined incorrectly or scored incorrectly. The program
now adheres exactly to the printed card that came with the
     game.
Made it easier to Save in the Card Editor.
Fixed a problem in the Card Editor in which the program
     redefined suits under certain conditions.

ONLINE FIXES

Accented text characters now allowed in player name and chat.
Prohibited exiting game in such a way that other players cannot
     continue playing.
Increased reliability of game taking over for player who drops
out. Occasionally when someone drops out under certain
obscure circumstances, users will still see the message:
"(Player) has dropped out; computer cannot recover; hand
considered draw," but this should happen less frequently now.

SHANGHAI FIX

Fixed edges and shadows of "Outer Space" tile set in
     high-resolution mode.

GENERAL FIXES

Game detects and warns if high-resolution game is installed and
monitor is at low resolution setting.
Game now installs and runs properly on Samsung 40X CD-ROM
drives and Windows 2000. (Note: Windows 2000 is still not a
     supported operating system.)
Viewing Current Hand (American mah-jongg) after Layout Editor
(Shanghai game) now does not crash.

MAH-JONGG IMPROVEMENTS

There is now an option to change the active mah-jongg card in
the File menu of the American game (no longer have to change
that option only on the Game Setup dialog box).
Changed the highlight color to red; this makes it easier to tell
which tile is the active discard when using the American and
     Chinese tile sets.

ONLINE IMPROVEMENTS

From the game lobby, hitting BACK now takes you to the
     servers list.
Program detects the lack of an active Internet connection and
     displays an error dialog.

GENERAL IMPROVEMENTS

You can now load a previously saved game, without first having
to start a new game from the title screen. Added option to File
     menu on title screen.

NOTE: You still have to have the Shanghai: Mah-Jongg Essentials CD
in the CD-ROM drive whenever you play the game. It is
recommended that you retain a copy of this patch in case you have
to re-install the game in the future.
