Readme File for SPEC OPS(tm) Final Patch August '98
----------------------------------------------------
YOU MUST HAVE PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED AN 'AWAL' PATCH
TO USE THIS "FINAL PATCH". IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY
DONE SO, DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL ONE NOW.

OPENGL USERS: Check out the "OpenGL Installation Guide"
at the end of this document.

        -- What's new
Stereo panning! You might have to choose the
"swap channels" option from the "sounds" menu
once or twice to clear old registry settings
and activate the fixed code. Note that this
is *not* 3D sound--so anyone can use it.

        -- What's fixed
		Smoke grenade uses correct geometry.

        -- What's broken (known problems)
Not all keys configurable in software.
Voodoo2 gamma settings can't be changed under NT.

        -- What's next
Final release of the game scripting language/compiler,
		including the OPENGL version.

	-- What's mission
Aureal 3D sound support. It's partially in, but
I doubt I'll have time to add the menu support
and tweak the 3D parameters to make it work.

	-- Special thanks:
This one's dedicated to all of you who've been
making mods. I'd like to specially point out Rush
and Gator for their submissions. Also, hats off to
bman for providing relentless tech support via the
		forum.

this is

c:\Program Files\Zombie\SpecOps

give WinZip the directory into which you installed
SpecOps).

Troubleshooting

Let me know if you have any trouble installing with the
patch. My email is markk@zombie.com (two k's).

OPENGL INSTALLATION GUIDE
----------------------------------------------------
If you're an OpenGL user, you'll need to perform the following
steps to get the game to work.

1) Uninstall SpecOps.
2) Install the 3DFX version of the game.
3) Download the original (beta) OPENGL patch and install it.
4) Download either AWAL patch and install *it*.
5) Install this patch.

Step 3 installs the textures required by the OPENGL version.
Step 4 updates your resources so you can use all ranger weapons on
all levels. Step 5 gives you the final code for the game.

This is a long process, but necessary. The special resources
required for the OPENGL version require this patch path.

Good luck. If you have any problems, write me at

markk@zombie.com (two k's).
