1.1 WHAT IS DISPOSABLE HEROES?

Disposable Heroes is a deathmatch pack for Quake
and Quake II. This preview version features 3 maps
and the MAD patch for Quake I...

1.2 WHY "PREVIEW VERSION"?

Disposable Heroes is a commercial product. This
is the shareware release.

The full version includes 21 maps, 3 patches, a
bot, and several new player skins for Quake. It also
features an even larger selection of Quake II add-ons.

You can get a Quake II demo from our website at
http://www.TheCoven.com

1.3 HOW DO I GET THE FULL VERSION?

The full version should be on sale at PlanetQuake's
"Black Market" from October '98. Keep your eye on the
Coven website and all good Quake news sites for further
details of the final release...

        ---------- 2.0 PREVIEW ----------

2.1 HOW DO I USE THE PREVIEW?

If you want to use the MAD patch, then use the
command line -

 QUAKE -GAME MAD

Otherwise, just start Quake as normal.

Once you've got Quake started, setup your
deathmatch options as normal and then bring down
the console using the ~ key. Type in MAP and then
the title of the map you want to play...

  eg - "MAP CDEMO1"

We have also included a GameSpy tab to help you
find servers running the Disposable Heroes preview
version.

To install the GameSpy tab, start up GameSpy,
then pull down the "view" menu, go to "custom tab"
and select "import". The tab should be in your
quake directory - dhq1demo.qst.

If you don't already have GameSpy, you can get the
shareware version from http://www.gamespy.com

2.2 WHAT IS THE MAD PATCH?

The MAD patch brings a whole new dimension to
every Quaker's favourite weapon, the Rocket
Launcher. The MAD patch replaces the weapons and
ammo in a level with 4 different types of rocket.

These 4 ammo types can be used in different ways,
replacing all the Quake weapons except for the axe.

Blast -
causes less damage than a normal Quake rocket, but
has a bigger blast, throwing the victim far further.
Try rocket jumping with them!

Double Blast -
similar to a blast rocket, but causes more damage.

Chemical -
releases a cloud of poison gas that damages anyone
straying into it for as long as they stay in the area.

Biological -
releases a cloud of germs that infects anyone who
enters it, causing damage until they can reach a
health pack.

Mind Gas -
releases a cloud of hallucinatory gas that confuses
anyone straying into. For a short time afterwards
you cannot walk in a straight line, and your vision
is also affected. Just like a night out really...

Incendiary -
sets fire to anyone in the area, causing them to
burn to death unless they can find a healthpack or
some water to jump into.

Tactical Nuke -
the weapon you've all been waiting for! Vapourises
anything at ground zero, sets fire to anything in
the vicinity, and the blast wave hurls its victims
away from the explosion. Use sparingly!

Finally, the Quad damage is replaced by the "super
coolant". The super coolant temporarily doubles the
firing rate of your rocket launcher for double the
carnage!

If you are using GLQuake, remember to wipe the
id1/glquake directory before playing the MAD patch,
or else the super coolant model will appear corrupted.
