I. Overview
------------------------------------

"Times have changed in what is now a post apocalyptic world. Any man
would cut your throat if given the chance. Hard times abound, and
there's no rain in sight. Electricity, gasoline, clean water, all
are dwindling resources that are highly sought after. There are
places, towns if you will, where people have tried to re-establish
lawful living in hopes that as a collective, we can repair this
earth. These towns operate under laws, and those laws are absolute
and unchallenged.

"You know the law. Sway from it, and you'll pay the price.

"Welcome to the world of TD2K. You'll find your way around pretty
quickly here. Either that or you'll be dead."

TD2K is based loosely on the trilogy of films featuring Mad Max.
We've strived to include gameplay elements that are true to the
spirit of the world Max lives in. If you're looking to find Quantum
Ray Disintegrator Guns in this mod, you'll be looking for a long
time. Only realistic weapons, powerups, and items exist in our mod.

Damage System:
--------------
There's not much chance of someone surviving a head shot. They tend
to be quite fatal in this mod as well. As for other wounds, you WILL
bleed to death if you don't find a way to bandage that gaping hole.
A bullet in the legs makes it quite difficult to run. Also, if you
happen to be unlucky enough to get shot in the heart, no amount of
bandaging will completely stop the bleeding. Similarly, if you get
shot in the lungs, your tortured gasps for breath will make it
difficult to run full-tilt.

Oh, by the way, don't try to jump off a four-story building either.
The other players will be happy to salvage your crumpled body for
anything you might have.

Other Information:
------------------
The Pre-Beta release uses a deathmatch-style mode of play, but the
final version will be teams-based. If it moves, shoot it.

If you find that it gets darker or lighter as time progresses, this
is what we call day and night. It happens.

This Pre-Beta Release includes many of the features that will be
found in the complete final release.

We're very interested to hear your comments about the world of TD2K!

TD2K is being developed for the Quake 2 platform, and will be ported
to Quake 3 soon after its release.

In the following sections, you'll find detailed information about the
realm of TD2K.

------------------------------------
II. Setup
------------------------------------

Now that you've gotten this far, the installation program should have
installed everything you need to get started with TD2K.

------------------------------------
III. Gameplay
------------------------------------

A. Game Structure
-----------------
The Pre-Beta release is deathmatch only. The final release will be
team-based.

B. Weapons
----------
1. Wrist Crossbow
You start the game with your default weapon, the Wrist Crossbow.
It fires short bolts in an arcing path. The speedy bolts travel
a fairly straight path, and are somewhat accurate. The built-in
autoloader holds 10 bolts, and will reload the weapon for you
until its clip is empty.
Upgrades Available: Explosive Tip Bolts

2. Sawed-Off Shotgun
The powerhouse of short range weapons. A single blast from this
sawed-off double barrel shotgun will most likely kill anyone at
close range. The blast is also so immense that it throws the
person it hits. The gun has a slow reload, and must obviously
be reloaded between each shot. The Pre-Beta release
automatically reloads your weapon for you, but future releases
will be manual reload. The damage from this gun is reduced to
single digits if the target is more than 15 feet away, as the
spread of the projectiles increase.
Upgrades Available: Armor Piercing Shells

3. Large Crossbow
This two handed weapon fires bolts at an unreal velocity and
requires a manual reload after every shot. Reload time is
roughly one bolt per second. A 2x sighted scope is included
with the crossbow and you can operate the weapon with or without
zooming. The damage from this weapon is almost certainly deadly
every time. The is the sniper's weapon of choice. Using the
weapon's scope provides a major increase in accuracy.
Upgrades Available: Enhanced Scope, Titanium Tip Bolts, WD-40

4. Explosive Projectile Launcher
This grenade launcher has a slower rate of fire than the Id
issued grenade launcher. This weapon is used to volley
explosives at varying distances. The distance of travel is
determined by how long the weapon's trigger is held. Future
releases will include a 6 grenade clip that must be reloaded
manually when empty.
Upgrades Available: Pipe Bombs & Detonator, Adhesive

C. Weapon Upgrades
------------------
1. Explosive Tip Bolts - Wrist Crossbow
Each bolt is tipped with a small amount of explosive. A direct
hit with these is almost certainly fatal. The drawback is that
because your bolts are heavier, they do not fly as fast or as
far.

2. Armor Piercing Shells - Sawed-Off Shotgun
These shells have pellets that pass through most armor.

3. Enhanced Scope - Large Crossbow
This scope attaches to your existing scope on the Large
Crossbow. You can then either choose the built-in 2x
magnification or 4x magnification.

4. Titanium Tip Bolts - Large Crossbow
Armor no longer plays a part with these bolts. They will easily
penetrate the most sophisticated armor, and will even penetrate
helmets. There is no speed or accuracy penalty for these bolts.

5. WD-40 - Large Crossbow
A quick dose of this pre-war lubricant will quiet down your
reload and fire sounds so that your position is not given away.

6. Pipe Bombs & Detonator - Explosive Projectile Launcher
Shoot out a pipe bomb. Wait until your enemy walks near it.
Press detonate button. No more enemy. These pipe bombs have a
fairly large radius of damage, and will definately kill anyone
too close to it. They will detonate after 30 seconds if you
don't detonate them yourself.

7. Adhesive - Explosive Projectile Launcher
Once you aquire this adhesive, all of your grenades will now
stick to walls, players, ceilings, even Teflon(c)! If you can
hit an enemy with a grenade coated with adhesive, you may want
to stay out of his way, as there is no way to remove it and he
may just try to take you with him.

D. Items
--------
1. Infrared Goggles (Pre-Beta Only)
Extremely useful when it gets dark. Players stand out clearly
with a red glow, even in the darkest area. The goggles do have
a red tint to them, and don't deal well with bright daylight.

2. Bear Trap
Bear Traps are just that. Throw one out, and it automatically
sets itself. Traps deal 15-30 points of damage, so aren't
deadly, but they do hold an enemy for several seconds while they
try to extricate themselves. Avoid bear traps by shooting them
to set them off. They will also set themselves off after a set
amount of time.

3. Land Mine
Once set down, these mines activate and will detonate upon any
contact. The damage is highly destructive, but has a fairly
small radius. These also can be set off by gunfire.

4. H-Stimpack
These injectable canisters speed blood clotting and stop most
wounds from bleeding and administer strong painkillers. You'll
need these.

5. Leather Boots
These soft leather boots mask your footsteps completely, making
sneaking up on camping snipers all the more easy. Also, you
don't make any sound when falling from heights either.

6. Lined Vest
Steel vest that's mostly intact. Bulletproof to most types of
weapons. Occasionally, shots will get through your vest and
injure you.

7. Helmet
Reinforced steel helmet decreases headshot damage considerably,
and you don't bleed. There is the possibility that a headshot
with a helmet will daze you somewhat, making you black out
momentarily. Or, the concussion could cloud your vision for the
rest of the match. Overall, a lot better than dying.

8. Flashlight
Shoulder-Mounted flashlight has a strong battery and blinding
beam. Very useful for flushing out enemies in the dark. If you
happen to catch someone in the eyes with this during nighttime,
it will temporarily blind them. Users of Infrared Goggles will
be blinded even longer by this item.

9. Backpack
Aquiring a backpack will allow you to carry twice the ammo you
normally could.

A special thanks to the A-Team for releasing the AQ2 source. A few elements from that source were directly used (with permission). Other parts of the source served as a great example, although the code itself was not implemented.
