Description : Currently a DM mod for Quake 2 that changes
a lot more than the normal mod. With time,
it will become a full conversion.

Additional Credit/Thanks: id Software for Quake 2, Stecki for the

DESCRIPTION

Stand: the Merge of Powers DM test was created to spark intrest
in Stand: the Merge of Powers, and show that we are able to
produce a great looking mod in a short amount of time. Originally,
Stand: the Merge of Powers was being created in Quake, but after
talks with a publisher we moved to Quake 2. After becoming quite
annoyed with the publisher,we chose to make Stand: the Merge of
Powers free, for the fans, and for our members to help make a
   better name for themselves.

PLAY INFORMATION

Single Player : No (but you CAN play Quake 2 single player as normal, and all of these weapons will be there over the originals, and it's really fun.)
Cooperative : Same as above
Deathmatch : Yes (current only new map: SDM1, but as with single player, you can play original Quake 2 dm maps and play with the stand weaponry.)

Difficulty Settings : No (no need in DM)
New Sounds : Yes (just a few, need a sound artist)
New Graphics : Yes (if in sdm1, all should be new, included old icon for fun)
Demos Replaced : No

Known Bugs : During Multiplayer gaming, looking at the flamethrower or Minigun pickup models can sometimes crash Quake2. This only seems to effect software users or just me, and has NO effect in single player mode.
In higher framerates, the barrels of the Minigun seems to shrink down between a certain frame. This is BARELY visible though.

GAMEPLAY STUFF:

New Weapons:

# Name Description
1: Edgecrusher: A melee weapon, fun for sword fights, but against someone at a distance with a gun, you might as well forget it. This weapon needs more frames of animation in the attack frames, they will be added later

2: Crossbow: Shoots arrows and is about as powerful as the shotgun, but since the blast is concentrated it does more damage, but harder to hit your target.

3: Sniper Rifle: A powerful weapon, as would a sniper rifle be. We may tone this one down a bit, and as an added treat for those of you smart enough to read readme file I'll tell you this: USE THIS GUN, YOU WILL WIN!

4: Riot Gun: An auto-shotgun basicly, great close range or for pissing people off at a distance.

5: Minigun: Like the q2 Chaingun, but the bullets are "drunken" which makes this weapon great fun for BIG DM games or when your opponents like to move around real quick.

6: Grenade Launcher: Like the Quake/Quake 2 grenade launcher, had to leave it in, its a great gun. :)

7: Demoralizer: This thing just flat out kills, it gets the job done, period. You can rocket-jump with this weapon, but be VERY careful when trying it.

8: Laser Cutter: A great weapon for the quite fighters, the deep hum of this weapon makes it difficult to find where it's coming from before it's too late.

9: Flame Thrower: Like the Demoralizer, if someone takes a hit from this it's over, but it's not too easy to hit quick moving small targets (try it against some of the larger monsters and bosses in q2, and they fall quick). We have SO much fun with this weapon, it's great mass destruction.

10: Skull Stick: Spits a pentagram that rains fire, how can you not love that?

DEATH MATCH STUFF

Kill people.

SINGLE PLAYER STUFF

The plan is for Stand to go mostly right over the Quake 2 stuff, that way one could play Stand in the Quake 2 enviroment. Current additions to q2 single player are all new weapons and a few models, etc changed for Stand. There are slight AI improvements to the soldiers, nothing special YET, but at least they don't stand there and die now. This demo was originally started to be a single player demo, but weapons got done faster and DM maps were quicker to build, what can we say? DM stuff is easier to make than single player.

INSTALLATION

Unzip stand0611.zip to your Quake2 folder recusing all folders as they are in the zip
(ie: your Quake2 folder is in c:\games\quake2, you would extra to c:\games, etc)

RUNNING THE GAME

To run the game, type the following from the DOS Shell
command line, whilst inside your Quake2 folder:

   quake2.exe +set game stand

I suggest (starts a server quick):

   quake2.exe +set game Stand +set deathmatch 1 +map sdm1

STORY

Here is the old story that I wrote up a while back, to help give an idea what's going on here, the full story will be released over time, it'll get much longer.

Wizards of medieval time have been trying to construct a time portal, and scientists of the future have been trying to create one as well. The wizards seek to see the future so they can bring back great technology, and the scientists seek the past so that they can bring magic into the future. They both get their time portals to open to the same times at once and the two portals collide mixing technology with magic to create a much larger, more powerful portal in an instant. Before either team has time to discover what has happened, the two portals begin to merge the two times. With a flash the two times become one, it turns into a dark picture of medieval castles and dark forces mixing with large buildings and powerful technology. People who carry the same roles in each time become one person, leaders merge, the wizards and scientists come together. Since the minds of the people of each time had became one, to everyone, this is how life had always been, and it went on always. Problems arose when the crime boss's of the future and the dark wizard's of the past mind became one to form the Wizard-Lord, Keldarus. With time, Keldarus began to take over with his dictatorship. There were many rebel attempts by the people to regain thier freedom, but all were hopeless. The rebeling forces were slowing dying down to just a few hundred hiding deep in catacombs trying to regain anything, but were near thier end. A man from a great line of warriors who was trapped in the dark forces army for most of his life escapes and joined the rebels, that man's name was Hayden Vardonur. Hayden became a very strong leader, and they conquired many small forces of the wizard-lord. After a few years of building thier forces, Hayden new it was time to go for the opressor himself, Keldarus. The wizard-lord was not ignorant to revolts though, he had originally built his fortress in the largest, strongest mountain in the land. This complex had a very strong artillery built to the sides of it, so an air strike was impossible. The only way in was through the front door, and so it was...
