Rocket Arena v1.1 Transparent Water VISPatch Readme
---------------------------------------------------

This archive is for patching your Rocket Arena v1.1
Pak0.pak's BSPs to be VISed for transparent water,
useful only for clients running the OpenGL version
of Quake (GLQuake), with the transparent water option
turned on. It is not a bad idea for Arena servers
of ALL types to apply this patch to their PAK's as
well, because for a client to have the information
inside the water (such as a player swimming underwater)
transmitted to them, they need the server to be running
the VISed maps for transparent water. Hence, if you
run a Arena server, you should apply this patch no
matter what. Your GLQuake users will appreciate it :)

This archive includes the following files:

* RAWater.jpg  - A small (12.5k) sample image to show the results
* Readme.txt - This file, containing the instructions
* Vispatch.dat - The main data file, containing the updated VIS info's
* Vispatch.exe - The patch applying program
* Vispatch.txt - The text file that accompanies Vispatch (not needed, but I threw it in there for safety)

Easy Instructions
-----------------

Simply unzip this in your \Quake\Arena\ directory, and run "VISPatch.exe"
at the DOS prompt. Easy enough, eh? VISPatch will automatically find the
VISPatch.dat data file, and then automatically find the correct BSP's in
the PAK0.pak file (of rocket arena), and then hot swap the VIS info from
the maps with the new stuff contained in VISPatch.dat. Should take all
of about 10 seconds.

Techinical Info
---------------

To create a patch such as this, I re-VISed the BSP's myself, after generating
a new PRT file. I used:

BSP2PRT - To generate a new PRT with transparnet water info, so i can RE-VIS
LeetVis 2.1 - To VIS the maps (I used level 4 [the highest]). I used LeetVis because it has a time indicator, and is supposedly slightly faster than Carmack's VIS.exe
VISPatch - To create the patch files from the reVISed BSP's, and for the end user to apply the patch
Super NoteTab - To type this Readme.txt (This is one slick text editor!! Trust me on this one! See http://www.unige.ch/sciences/terre/geologie/fookes/ )

Some of the BSP's took about 5 seconds to VIS, while others took nearly
1 hour. All in all to do them all I think that it took about 6 hours of CPU
time, but thanks to the geniusness of Microsoft, I was able to just let
the VIS run in the background and take up all extra CPU power, yet let me
carry on with my work in the foreground. Ahh the wonders of multitasking. ;)

Shameful Plug
-------------

Yes I had to do this. I am the author of Quake Name Editor which can be found
at http://www.nconnect.net/~tookycat/apps/qnameed.html - its a slick Win95/NT
program that allows for visual editing of the colored/graphical names in
Quake. Check it out!

Other Stuff
-----------

Thanks to Andy Bay (ABay@teir.com) for making VISPatch. I hope he doesnt
mind me distributing his EXE with this archive. Oh in case you are a little
foolish and don't actually have rocket Arena but want it, see
http://www.planetquake.com/servers/arena/
