Castellian Keep - Military Fortification

Map Scale: 5 feet per square
Designer: QBall
Email: dslater@bayarea.net

Design Time: Approx 110 hours total, 4 - 15 hours/level (first CC2 building for me)
File Format: Profantasy CC2 FCW

Description:
Standing on the edge of the realm this mighty military keep protects the
borderlands against the chaotic humaniod hordes lurking in the wilderness
beyond. During peacetime it comfortably houses a standing army of 512 well
trained soldiers, 24 sergents, 4 lieutenants, a commanding captain, along
with servants and other supporting staff. The walls of the keep are 10 feet
thick and it provides excellent defense when situated on a rocky crag or
surrounded by a moat to protect its base.

Might make a bitch'in residence for a Baron, central base of operations
for a powerful religious sect or even a dungeon if you stuff it full of monsters
or humanoids. I am sure you can think of other uses for it.
Personally I use it as the standard military fortification placed
at strategic wilderness locations and important population centers.

Inspiration:
Lots of floor plans of castles from various books and magazines.

Usage:
The whole point of making the FCW CC2 files available for download is so
that you can edit the maps, customize them to your own liking or perhaps
even make up your own Keep/Tower/Castle totally from scratch with the symbols
provided.

IF I DIDN'T WANT YOU TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS I WOULD JUST DISTRIBUTE THE GIF
FILES AND KEEP (no pun intended, heh heh) THE FCW FILES FOR MYSELF!

I really don't mind what you do with it as long as you keep this text file
and the keepkey.fcw file intact when distributing it and don't try to take
all the credit for it.
This thing took a damn long time to make and I want to share my effort with
the rest of you fine people. I would just have a real problem with someone
moving a few chairs around and saying "LOOK A THE COOL CASTLE I MADE!",
plastering their name all over it and claiming it as their own.
That would be totally lame. I would feel ripped to say the least.

Notice I didn't plaster my name all over the maps. What is the point really?
It would just add a lot of clutter and if you make heavy modifications you
would probably just delete it anyways. I only put a copyright on the Keep Key
page with the symbols on it so ... again I don't mind the symbols being
distrbuted as long as the keepkey.fcw with the copyright is distributed intact as well.

So there ya have it. Customize it. Use it. Print it. Flesh it out if you
want. Give it to your friends. I don't care. A little note like
"Thanks to QBall for the symbols" or "This Keep is based on Castellian Keep
by QBall, heavily modified to make it into a Wizard Tower for the archmage"
(for example) would be nice.

And of course this file (keep.txt) & keepkey.fcw included in any subsequent distribution
is required. I hope people that end up reading this come and visit my web site at:

New Symbols:
All new symbols! Over 65 symbols suitable for designing and drawing
castles, keeps and other building.

Problems:
I had a problem doing a paste from the clipboard. CC2 would crash.
Turns out it was due to a symbol I made that was composed of grouped objects.
Removed the funky symbol and everything worked fine. Always remember to explode
grouped symbols if you plan to make other symbols from them.

Updates:
1.0 - Original release. Key + 15 levels. Lower levels are labeled keep00 for
the foundation, keep0 for the basement and keep1 to 13 for levels 1 thru 13.
Symbol catalog also included in the zip file.
1.1 - Added Sideview of the Keep looking to the north. Making all those swiggly
lines for the mound of rock that the Keep sits on was a pain. I am hoping for
a fractal line generator incorporated into CC2 sometime.
2.0 - Changed all the symbols from Halftone to Solid colors. May make them print
better on some printers. Definitely makes things more colorful.
     - Changed color on stable walls to grey so that they signify a wall that does
not go all the way to the celing.
     - Added more symbols. Some things like corner shelves and the pool tables
where just left as a bunch of primitives. Now they are objects.
     - Added a few colorful green rugs here and there.
     - Make up a brand new symbol fill for the 8 orientations of roof tiles. Looks
way better than the vertical/horizontal/lines.

Wishlist:
  1) Larger map showing how the Keep fits into the surrounding land. Maybe a town
along a river with the Keep in the middle. I already have a drawing done on paper
for a really wicked location.
  2) Stats on people that populate the Keep (I have some of this on paper)
  3) Descriptions of the various rooms and how they interact with each other.

HAVE FUN! I know I did making it!
