(******* QuArK Frequently Asked Questions *******)

Please read this file before posting me questions about how to use QuArK.

Q: For what games is QuArK an editor ?

A: Quake, Hexen II and Quake 2. No other games are supported and I don't plan to.

Q: Does QuArK have a home page on the Internet ?

A: http://www.planetquake.com/quark
You'll also find more help at http://www.planetquake.com/quark/armin/index.shtm

IF YOU HAVE ACCESS TO THE WEB PLEASE ALSO HAVE A LOOK AT THIS HOME PAGE
BEFORE E-MAILING ME QUESTIONS. THERE ARE MORE FAQS AVAILABLE THERE.

Q: What else than QuArK do I need ?

A: There is no external Run-Times required.

FOR QUAKE: What you will need is the registered version of Quake, and the QBSP,
VIS and LIGHT utilities. You can find these on the Internet,
from QuArK's home page. The file is called BUILD.ZIP.

                    http://www.planetquake.com/quark (go to download page)

FOR HEXEN II: You need Activision's utilities. The file is available from

                    ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/idgames/idstuff/hexen2/

Be aware that the maps you make with these utils cannot be sold,
because Activision retains property on these maps.

FOR QUAKE 2: You need id Software's utilities. The file "source_12_11.zip" is
                available from numerous places, including

http://www.planetquake.com (go to Quake2 files section)

Because id Software made the source code for these utilities freely available,
several people made improvements to them. Some versions, however, seem to work better
than others, so in case of trouble, first try to use the versions recommended at
QuArK's site. For Quake, I recommend QBSP_AR because it can read QuArK's map files
with decimals in coordinates for more precision.

You DO NOT need any "run-time" DLL's or things like that. Don't be confused with the
fact that there is a "DOS Run-Time" version of QuArK ; this is just a separate
DOS program with which anyone can play with QuArK files. It's useless if you can
already use the full-featured Win95-based QuArK.

Q: How do I play Quake with my maps ?

A: In QuArK Map Editor, all you need is choose, in the Quake menu, "GO".

Q: When I do this, I get the message : "This program will be run in DOS mode."

A: This means that there is a file that tells Windows to close itself before running
Quake, which is not what you want. Look for a file named "Quake.pif" in the same
directory as "Quake.exe" and delete it. (.pif files are sometimes shown without
extension in Win95 but with a small arrow on their icon)

Q: Although it has worked for a while, Quake won't run any more. Why ?

A: Some files may be corrupted. In QuArK's first window, open the menu "Quake" and
choose "Output directories". There, click on the buttons "Empty now" and "Delete
   selected files".

Q: My maps wouldn't compile. I get the error "point off plane".

A: You need a newer version of QBSP. see above.

Q: My maps wouldn't compile. I get the error "file not found : ....\/quakemap.wad".

A: Try a newer version of QBSP. See above.

Q: My maps wouldn't compile. I get other errors.

A: There are just too many possible errors. Have a look at my home page. (see above)

Q: When I try the menu "3D-editor", I get an error and I can't see the 3D editor.

A: Press the Help button when the error message pops up.

Q: What does such menu command or button does ?

A: Move the mouse cursor over it and press F1.

Q: How do I rotate, offset, and shrink textures on polyhedrons ?

A: Click on the polyhedron face whose texture you want to set, and look at the bottom
   left of the screen.

Q: How do I add my own models to the "New items" window, so that I can directly add
what I made once to all my maps ?

A: In this window, move the mouse cursor over the button with two sheets of paper
and a yellow star, and press F1.
