Title : The Skaarj Combat Training Arena

Misc. Author Info : Born and raised in the province of Quebec, Canada, I have been
very interested by all sorts of video games since they started
coming out (yes folks, I am old enough to remember pong). Unreal
is the best one of its category I have seen yet and the included
level editor just begged me to be used. The Skaarj Arena is the
eighth level I made and the second one that I have posted on
the Net. Lets just say that the first six were good to practice
                      on but not much else.

Description : This deathmatch level is the result of a happy development in the
making of another one I have yet to finish. The platforms at the
center of the arena were supposed to be the core of this other
level. However, as I worked on it, I realized that the platforms
no longer fitted with the rest of it. Instead of simply
deleting them, I retextured them and built this simple level
around them. I went for good game flow and simplicity. I also
wanted to make this map intrinsically dangerous to play. The
whole thing is suspended above a pool of lava. If you don't
pay attention to where you are going, you will take many hot
lava baths. The chosen textures also act as good camouflage for
your adversaries, making it sometimes difficult to know
from where an attack is coming from. There are plenty of escape
routes though. It won't take you long before you adapt to these
conditions and begin to wreak havoc in the ranks of your
opponents. And don't hesitate to use the nali fruit seeds.
The more of them you sow, the more nali bushes will be
                      available when you need them.

Recommended number : Eight and above.
of players.

Credits : Sincere thanks to the many people who wrote tutorials for
www.unrealed.net. These tutorials were the sole source of information
I used to teach myself how to use unrealed. The results, good or
                      bad, are entirely my fault.

* Construction *
Base : New level built around elements of another, yet unfinished map,
which no longer fitted the theme of that map. This is all my
                      own work.

Build Time : A single day folks.

Editor used : Unrealed, the beta version, straight from the CD.

Known Bugs : There are no known bugs. Even the bots love this one, although
they have some problems with the elevators, but this is true
of all the maps I have seen so far. By the way, would it be so
hard for the people at Epics to program the critters to stand
still when they are on a mover in motion?
