--- Play Information ---
Game : Unreal
Level Name : DM-Carnage_Cathedral
Single Player : no
Cooperative : no
Deathmatch : yes, 5-10 players, depending on how bloody you want it :)
Dark Match : no
Botmatch : yes

Construction Time : Spare time over the course of a few weeks, most of which was spent learning how to do stuff, rather than actually doing it :)

Known Bugs : A few minor brush misalignments, some more noticeable texture misalignments (due mostly to the stupid way I started the map). Also, Skaarj players may have trouble with the tighter areas, especially the water tunnel. I don't really consider this a bug . . . many of Epic's maps are the same way. Why anyone would use that big slow target online is beyond me anyway :)

Author's Notes
--------------
This is my first map, and it's a textbook case of how NOT to go about building a level. I started out experimenting with making a room using the 2D shape editor. In a few minutes I'd made the round room and the large curving hallway, and connected them. It would have been nice, at this point, to note that neither room was square to the grid. By the time it did occur to me, I'd done enough work that fixing it seemed impossible, so I had to leave the grid off and align everything by hand. It made everything MUCH harder than it should have been, but I learned my lesson. Boy, did I ever! Frankly, considering how many stupid mistakes I made, I'm amazed this thing works at all . . . but I should have a much easier time with the next one.

I tried to maximize the connectivity of the map to keep the gameflow speedy, and give people a reason to keep moving around (like separating weapons and ammo, and not putting health in the sniper nest). Also, any place that seemed out of the way got a choice item, to make going there worthwhile. Anyone who wants an Eightball will find out what I mean :) I also went a little nuts with the coloured lighting in the main room, but I loved the "traffic light" effect.

Acknowledgements
----------------

I'd like to thank everyone who playtested the map, including (but by no means limited to) Ephiny, Bushleague, MrBungles, Zenny, and of course my roomates Ted and Tyler, critics and advisors extraordinaire. Also Unrealed.net, UEP, and everyone who wrote the tutorials therein. Special thanks to Dylan Gladstone for his 2D shape editor tutorial and map diaries, and to everyone who answered my questions on the unreal.ed newsgroup. Also a tip of the hat to the folks at Nali City . . . reading the reviews of really bad maps was one of my best sources of advice! I just hope this map doesn't end up in that category :)
