Its 5:13AM on Sunday 12/27/98. So if this document sounds
funny, that's why. Squishie 2.1 is finally out the door.
This is your friendly coder SSpeare and just a few words
from our sponsors.

I'd like to thank all the members of Otaku MAD for their
help in testing Squishie. My most devoted testers were
TrunksZ, Warhammer, Niffy, eclip5e, SchattenJager &
Hibiki. Many others helped out including Nitro, Silence,
SEEkER, Dark Sun, Shadowdean, and Lord Mycroft wooped
up on us for a while. Lots of others were involved and
if I forget you now its cause its really, really late
and I can't remember everything. DNapalm also helped
out one night when I couldn't find any Otaku around.
Also, thanks to the Otaku:MOD team for letting me take
the time to do this.

On to Squishie:
This new version is basically the final version. I will
do updates for new patches to Shogo as needed, and any
bug fixes that come along. I will write up the changes
necessary for Squishie and the source code will be
freely available so that anyone else doing a MOD can
include this kind of gameplay if they so desire. All
I ask is that credit be given and that I am notified
BEFORE the release of the MOD. I have changed 33 files
to some extent. Some are 30% larger from my changes,
others only have a line or two difference. This has
been a huge undertaking, so I'm just asking for a
little credit.

--------------------Important-----------------------
If you don't read any of this, then read this. If that's
possible. Squishie Vs. MCA is a TEAM game!! You should
not kill your own kind and you should organize to kill
the others. There are several ways that this is
enforced. You will loose frags for killing your own
kind and you also have a team only message so that
you can coordinate your attacks. Please pay attention
to in-game messages! Many people do not read these and
that is very frustrating.
****************************************************

--------------How to setup Squishie------------------
The .zip file needs to be uncompressed. OK, this is
really obvious and you must have already done this
to be reading this file, but I'm being explicit here.
The Squishie2_1.rez file should be placed into your
shogo\custom directory (If you still have Squishie.rez
around, you can delete it). Also, if you are not
going to host a dedicated server, you can delete
ShogoSrv.exe as you will never need it.

In order to play Squishie, you have to tell Shogo that
you want to use the MOD. The place to do this is when
you first start up Shogo there is a button called
"Customize...", if you click on it, it will show you
all of the .rez files in the \custom directory. You
should select Squishie2_1.rez and add it to the other
side. If you want to join a game using GameSpy, you
will need to click the button that says "Always load
these rez files". If you ever want to play a normal
game, you will have to come back and uncheck that box
and remove Squishie2_1.rez from the right side.

--------------------GameSpy--------------------------
If you're using GameSpy then you can close Shogo.exe
and run GameSpy. The servers running Squishie should
have Squishie in their title. Also, if you click on
the server you will see that the gametype is set to
Squishie. Double-click on the server. You will now see
the Player Setup dialog. This is where you specify
Squishie or MCA. If you don't see a choice for Squishie,
then you haven't included the .rez file properly and
Squishie will not work. Enter your name, choose your
color and choose your MCA or Squishie, then click OK
and your playing Squishie.

------------Using Shogo Multiplayer-----------------
You should already have followed the above instructions
on added Squishie2_1.rez to your Customize... menu, if
not, please do that now. Now, click on Multiplayer and
select your type of connection and choose "Join an
existing session" (hosting instructions are later).
You will now see the Player Setup dialog. This is where
you specify Squishie or MCA. If you don't see a choice
for Squishie, then you haven't included the .rez file
properly and Squishie will not work. Enter your name,
choose your color and choose your MCA or Squishie,
then click Next. You should now be at the Game Session
dialog box. If you know the IP address of your server,
then click Add... and type it in. If your server does
not appear in the uppermost box, then it is not available.
If it does, then select the correct server, and click
Finish. You're now playing Squishie!

-----------------Team only Messages-------------------
So, you've set everything up and been fragging away, but
you want to know more? Well, there are a few things in
the game that are extra. One major feature is TeamTalk or
TeamSay or whatever you want to call it. You can choose
to send messages to only your teammates. This can be done
by placing "t " or "T " before all of your messages.
Simply, if you want a message to go to everyone, just type
it in and it will. If you want a message to go to just your
team, put a "t " in front of it. Here are some examples:

I'm gonna kill all you MCA Scum!!
t Where's the MCA?
t I'm positioned above the bridge, run him under me
Are you guys scared of us little Squishies!?!?

OK, the middle two message will go to his teammates, and the
outer two will go to everyone. This is most useful for the
Squishies, but the MCAs can use it also.

------------------------FragList---------------------------
The FragList has undergone a major revision. It now displays
3 seperate frag counts. The first is the number of enemies
you have Killed. The second count is the number of times you
have killed yourself or your teammates. The last number is your
total score based on Kills and TeamKills. MCAs get 1 point
for Squishies, but loose 3 for killing themselves or other
MCAs. Squishies get 5 points for killing an MCA, but loose
only 1 point for teamkills or selfkills. The ranking is based
on your Score and should be fairly comparable from Squishie
to MCA.

-------------------Notable differences---------------------
All Squishies start with full ammo in every weapon. If you
need more ammo then you are too good, just die. Sorry, but
it is rare to run out of ammo unless you aren't engaging the
enemy enough. And I couldn't think of any "fair" way to
distribute more ammo. As Maps made for Squishie come out,
they will include both Squishie and MCA ammo, and will even
this out. The default settings are that Squishies have a
TractorBeam, but MCAs don't. This is by far the most fair way
to play, although I think it would be fun if NEITHER side had
TractorBeams. However, this would require serious cooperation
by the Squishies to get ANY kills. The server has the option
to turn TractorBeams on/off for either side. The TractorBeam
has been made MUCH smaller and darker. I believe this is fair
and beneficial to the Squishies. This cannot be changed and is
another reason why MCAs should NOT have TractorBeams.

--------------------How to Host a Game----------------------
Hosting a game is done in the same way as in Shogo. You should
read the Dedicated Server section for more information on the
settings.

----------------How to Run a Dedicated Server----------------
If you want to run a dedicated server, the best way to do this
is with the included ShogoSrv.exe. Unfortunately, there isn't
a good place to put this. You will need to rename or backup
your previous copy of ShogoSrv.exe, otherwise you WILL have
problems hosting a normal DeathMatch game later. Just rename
it to ShogoSrv.old and that's fine. When you run ShogoSrv.exe
select Squishie2_1.rez and add it to the right box (You did
follow the above instructions and copied it into the
shogo\custom directory, right?). Everything else is the same
until you get to the Game Settings dialog box. This has been
changed to reflect both player types in one game. You can set
TractorBeam for either type and their running speeds
independently. However, I strongly urge you to NEVER give the
MCAs a TractorBeam, it makes the game very unplayable for the
Squishies. Also, don't make the Squishies too much faster or
they will SelfFrag on walls. The MCA speed should be set to
1.3 for normal Netplay speed, and the Squishie should be set
to 0.8. Everything else is the same. When you start the server,
you will notice that it displays the players' type when they
join. OF is for Squishie and MCA is for Mecha. If people try to
join your server which don't have the MOD, they will be booted.
You will receive notice of this on your console. If someone
doesn't have the MOD, it will inform you that they "suck" and
should "go away". If they have the MOD, but the wrong version,
it will tell you this also. There shouldn't be much of this,
though. If you can, it is a good idea to restart the server from
time to time. The process of Kicking Clients who don't have the
MOD isn't very good and sometimes can cause the server to think
it has more players than it currently does. If everyone joining
gets a "Connection Refused" message, then restarting the server
should fix this. However, the server will still list the correct
number of Players. For this reason, you may want to inflate the
total number of players by 3 or 4. But this hasn't been a big
problem so far. If it is a problem for you, e-mail me and I'll
try to fix it faster.

-------------------------Credits/Final words---------------------
OK, I'm sure that I forgot something in here, so if you e-mail me
questions I'll answer you and put it in here. I like e-mails, they
tell me that people care and are playing this. Its tough to work
for hours on a project and not hear anything back.

This work was done solely by myself. I had a great group of testers,
but everything included in it is my own work. If you would like to
put this on your site, I ask only that you e-mail me and tell me
where it is.

Any comments/suggestion or whatever can be e-mailed to me. I read
all my e-mail and usually reply to them all. But it may take me a
few days.
