Special Air Service (SAS)

Headquarters: Hereford, England

Founded by David Stirling (1915-1990) as a small strategic group for attacking important targets behind enemy lines.

The selection process for applying SAS 22.nd starts at Hereford and in the hills of South Wales. The candidates then progresses to the jungle program in Brunei and finishes with the parachute program at RAF Brize Norton, Oxfordshire.

After succesfull enrollment into SAS, the members rotates at different location thoughout the world - Northern Ireland, Indonesia, Africa, South America, etc.

A part of the SAS training is the Hostage Rescue program at Hereford, and alot of the equipment used around the world by HRT's was developed by SAS.

SAS has also been used as technical advisors for training and founding new HRT's, like GSG9 (Germany), GEO (Spain), GIGN (France), Delta Force (USA),..
