Pistol - .40 S&W - Switzerland - Semi-Automatic - The P226 took the basic 9mm P220 design and added a high capacity magazine. As a canidate in the US Army's M9 trials, the P226 was the only pistol other than the Beretta 92 to pass all of the tests. SIG only lost after three bids (Beretta was given SIG's bid to beat). In its 9mm NATO format, the P226 is extremely popular among US Federal agencies, the US Navy SEALs, and even the British SAS, who replaced their trademark GP-35 pistols. The .40 version is a recent development reflecting the popularity of the new cartridge among US police agencies.
