NOTE: There is NO single player start in this map. If you try and play it singlep layer, it will NOT work. To try it by yourself, simply start up a lan game that only you join. Sorry about this (If it needs batching, I'll add one). :-(

The Garden
12/02/98 - Onnel

I hope everyone enjoys this level. It is for deathmatch only and should be good for up to 8 (maybe 10-12?) people. It has a little bit of everything, so exploration is a necessity. It's based on the idea of an enclosed colony (space station?) with a garden level, storage, offices, a lab, and a duct system leading to the water cistern.

There are a large number of transparent textures, so it may well run slow unless you have a fast machine with a good amount of ram. I've got to stop developing on a P450 with 256 ram...you lose a ssense of proportion.

To use it, just extract the file "garden.bsp" into you half-life\valve\maps directory. To include it in the rotation of maps in a server, add the line "garden" (without quotes) to the mapcycle.txt. It's probably smart to make sure there is a carriage return (blank line) at the end of the file, too.

A couple of notes: A flashlight is pretty much required for full enjoyment of this level (the duct system would be almost unexplorable without the use of one), so make sure the server is set "mp_flashlight 1". I prefer to play this way, but it may slow some machines down too much.

Also, there are some things that break (and others that do not). you'll have to explore a bit to figure out which are which. All weapons are included, and none of them are too hard to find, I think. There are quite a few grenades...mainly because they are one of my favorites.

You'll also need to kneel occasionally to get around a protrusion in some of the smaller passages (especially in the ducts).

Finally, I didn't want to have to deal with packing up original textures (I will for later levels, though!), so this level uses only textures from the original Half-Life textures. I doubt you'll really notice too much of the repitition, though.

Hope you all enjoy the level..frag away! This was my first level, so please give me feedback if there are too many textures, some areas are too slow, or anything like that. I'll be to work on a new one soon, and my wife is planning one based on the Roman coliseum. We'll release them as soon as they're ready.

If anyone has any feedback or questions about the level, feel free to email me. Also, if anyone knows a sure fire way to get the ip/email address of someone who has spoofed their "from:" address, please let me know ASAP! There's a XXX advertiser who is spoofing my domain name as their from address, so I'm getting thousands of emails a day accusing me of sending out this spam!
