/~~\About RAID/~~\
------------------
RAID is an addon for Westwood's Red Alert that uses new graphics, new
sounds, new units, and an almost entirely new RA gaming experience. However,
the most important aspect of RAID, one that many other RA addons fail to
achieve, is balance in not only the sides, but in the units as well. There
aren't any "Heavy Tank" type units in the game, units so cost
effective that if the player builds nothing but them, he will be sure to
win. Rest assured that in order to triumph over your opponent, you must
build a variety of units. An army of AGTs, assuming that you have enough
money to build an army of AGTs, will have poor luck against six or seven
Molotov's Bartenders. So, throw some Tesla Tanks in there. But now V2s
take out the Tesla Tanks from a distance. So, rush in there with Recon
Bikes to take out the V2s. But here come some light and medium tanks...
and so it goes. The same is true for a Human attack vs. the Colodians.
Every unit has it's weakness, and each side has a unit that can exploit
that unit's weakness. For every strategy there is a counter. Mobile Anti-Aircraft
units such as the Mobile AA and the MMSLs make air strikes vs. Ore Trucks
a risk of loosing a lot of money in aircraft. This same holds true for
same-side fights, where both players are Human or both are Colodian.

Note: You must have the Counterstrike patch (RA v1.07e) to be able to
use this addon.

/~~\Basic Plot/~~\
------------------
Almost immediately after the Allies win the war against the Soviets,
inhabitants from the planet Colodia arrive in the Earth's solar system,
intent on colonizing the nice, hospitable third planet, regardless of the
fact that a semi-civilized species has already spread it's influence across
the globe. Unfortunately for the Colodians, they underestimated the tenacity
and hidden resources of the humans. Any other time in history the humans
wouldn't have had a fighting chance, but after the war that had just been
fought, the armed forces were at there peak performance, production was
high, and the main fighting force had just acquired some formiddable technology
from the fallen Soviets. Even so, the surprise and might of the Colodians
managed to drive a serious wedge into the Western Hemisphere (with a little
help from a secret organization that had been connected with the Soviets
by the name of "The Brotherhood of NOD), and soon only Europe was
a safe haven from the power of Colodia. However, soon after that, plant
life found on a remote Mediterranean island proved to be a great bane to
the Colodians. The plant was developed into a super-weapon against the
Colodians (as a side note, the repeated use of the weapon against the invading
forces left it's toll on the landscape in the form of a tenacious and hardy
growth of the substance labeled "Tiberium").

/~~\Known Bugs/~~\
------------------
The Laser graphics sometimes bleed (bits of it do not get "refreshed"
after the laser has passed and it leaves little red bits on the screen).
These go away after a short time, usually when you scroll the screen a
little.

There are no icons for the Alien Commander or Molotov's Bartender,
since I'm in no way an artist and the freeware renderer I used for a few
other icons will not do people that easily. I did put red squares with
the unit names on them so that the double image effect wouldn't happen.

Unit's changed but not given new images still have the names of the
old image. For example, the Laser Infantry still says "Flamthrower".
So when you are playing, remember that the following:

Pillbox = Firewall
Flame Turret = Laser Battery
Flamethrower = Laser Infantry
Mobile Artillary = Mobile AA
Spy = Sniper
Thief = C4 Expert

/~~\Credits/~~\
---------------
Shmitz: Design and compilation of the rules.ini and mix file.
Graphics for the base of the AGT (the turret was taken from the Heavy
            Tank from Red Alert)
Most of the graphics in the MMSL (the shp file was originally the dog,
which has over 200 frames of animation in it. Certain frames are not used
as long as the dog does not have canine=yes set in the rules.ini, so since
that flag is off in RAID, I did not edit or change those unused frames.
However, because I left those in the shp file, I cannot claim credit for
ALL the graphics in the MMSL. The ones that look like a dog are Westwood's).
         The graphics for the Laser.
Icons for the MMSL, AGT, Soviet Tech Center (RAID version).
The sounds for the MMSL, the Alien Commander, and the Tiberium Missile
            announcements.
         Playtesting.

Drunk Old Man: Extensive playtesting. Without him RAID probably would not be as balanced
                as it is.

Guerrero: Another big playtester. He came up with the idea for the mobile anti-aircraft
units such as the MMSL and the Mobile AA.

AG-Chris: Icon for the Tesla Tank and idea for the Nuclear Power Plant

Pookie: Made the Title Screen for RAID

Westwood: Creators of the games Command & Conquer: Tiberium
Dawn, and Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Certain graphics were taken
from C&C1 (Recon Bike, Nuclear Power Plant, Napalm Bomber, and Hand
of NOD in their original form; the UFO is edited from the Orca). The Tesla
Tank is taken entirely from the first three frames of the "build up"
animation for the Tesla Coil. The laser sounds were edited from the Ion
Cannon and Obelisk of Light from C&C1. Anything not mentioned above
should be considered the result of Westwood's hard work.

/~~\Installation/~~\
--------------------
To install RAID all you need to do is unzip the sc-rad.mi_ and raid.ini
to your main Red Alert directory. Then, when you want to play, rename sc-rad.mi_
to sc-rad.mix and raid.ini to rules.ini. When you are through playing,
simply rename them again to sc-rad.mi_ and raid.ini, respectively. To play,
ALL players MUST have the same version of the ini file and mix file. If
you have any other mix files in your RA directory that are non-standard
(in other words, mix files that came with other addons, not redalert.mix,
expand.mix, conquer.mix, or other game mixes), you must remove them or
rename them.

/~~\Do's and Don'ts/~~\
-----------------------
You may distribute this package under the following conditions:
The raid.ini file has NOT been modified in any way.

The mix file has NOT been modified in any way.

  The text file is included.

You are NOT recieving any money for it (in other words, do not put
this addon on a commercial CD or any other commercial package).

You MAY use this addon as a base for additional addons, such as mission
campaigns or a sequel to RAID. However, any additions MUST be contained
in a separate mix file. You may NOT edit the raid.ini file if you use RAID
as a base.

/~~\Further Comments/~~\
------------------------
You may feel free to e-mail me about any problems you encounter with this addon,
and if you find any bugs, please do, as I will work to improve this addon if any
serious issued arise. However, if I feel that the question(s) has already been answered
either in this text file or at the main RAID site, I will most likely not reply.
If you DO e-mail me with a question about a problem, please be as specific as possible,
listing exactly what you did and what you are trying to do.

PLEASE visit http://www.zebra.net/~kmajor/RA/Raid/
The site is much more informative than this text file, and will help you to understand
the addon better, especially the units section.
