ABOUT REDALERT 40,000
---------------------
If you've ever played the Games Workshop wargame Warhammer 40,000, then you will understand most
of what I am talking about. Warhammer 40,000 is set in the 41st millenium, and you fight battles
with models and stuff. There are loads of different armies, but in this patch you can be two
armies - the Imperial Forces or the Alien Tyranids.

INSTALLING AND SETUP
--------------------
The following files should be included in this zip file:

sc-40k.mix = graphics for RA 40k
rules40k.ini = rules.ini with units for RA 40k
title.pcx

Simply place these three files into your Red Alert directory (usually c:\westwood\redalert) and
rename the rules40k.ini file to rules.ini. Then start a game of Red Alert, making sure there
are no other rules.ini files or edited mix files in the directory. When you begin a skirmish or
multiplayer game, you must start with no units as you'll start with units your not meant to have,
and also I have experianced problems when starting with any units. Put unit count on 0.

FEATURES OF RA 40,000
---------------------
RedAlert 40,000 lets you play Red Alert as either the Imperial Forces or the Tyranids. Here is a
list of units and descriptions for each side:

Imperial Forces
---------------
Play as any soviet country.
The forces of man, you control the Imperial Guard and the mighty Space Marines,
along with a few mighty tanks and other machines of war.

Imperial Guardsman = Armed with only an autogun, this is your main trooper. Cheap, but will not
serve you too well against the Tyranids, who will most probably delight in tearing these stock
troops to shreds.

Missile Launcher Guardsman = Carries a potent missile launcher, a time-tested weapon of
destruction on the Warhammer 40,000 battlefield. Slightly slower than an average soldier due to
the weight of the missile launcher.

Servitor = Repairs buildings and can damage enemy buildings (engineer in other words)

Medic = Heals troops. Is well armoured to survive the hail of shells to get to the wounded.

Space Marine = The Imperium's finest warriors, clad in power armour and armed with rapid fire
BoltGun (Bolter), which is effective against all types of attack (exept, of course, a Carnifex).

Flamer Marine = Space Marines armed with lethal flamers, deadly to vehicles, aliens, and humans
alike.

Predator Assualt Tank = A Space Marine assualt tank, well armoured with an assualt cannon and
machine gun for anti-infantry attack.

Whirlwind Support Tank = Armed with two large rocket launchers, this support tank can sit behind
your lines barraging the enemy from afar.

Mobile Support Weapon = Small and lightly armoured, this gun fire a quick burst of shells, then
must stop to reload. Cheap and usefull, although not too accurate.

Chimera APC = Well armoured heavy APC, armed with multiple bolters to blast away while unloading
it's cargo of up to 10 infantry units.

Tyranid Forces
--------------
Play as any allied country.
You are controlling the most terrifying of the alien forces, the Tyranids. Many evil
bio-engineered creatures are at your disposal.

Genestealer = The cheapest creature, although at 400 each they are more costly than any Imperial
tooper. Possesing no ranged weapons, but extreme speed and a viscious claw attack in close
combat, you must get them in the heart of the enemy for them to cause great damage.

Tyranid Warrior = A strong, solid creature armed with a cannon for long ranged attacks, and able
to deal out death at close quaters with great ease.

Zoanthrope Phyker = Posseses the ability to cast a phsycic blast of energy, which can easily blow
the minds of infantry, although has more difficulty getting through armour. The blast takes time
to "charge up", but is potent and has a long range. The Zoanthrope is weak though, and needs
protection.

Carnifex = The mightyest of all you creatures, huge claws allow for it's devastation in close
combat, and it's long range attack is a terrible plasma ball which can burn things up quickly.
This creature is also tremedously strong and fast, although the most expensive creature in the
game.

BUGS
----
In the way of big bugs that'll crash your computer there are none, but sometimes and on some
systems it may cause Red Alert to crash and go back to Windows 95 (if your running it from
win95 - otherwise your buggered). If this happens just start again and hope it don't happen
again :-).
I have had problems with RA crashing back to windows in every single patch I've done, I really
dont have a clue why it does it, but this one seems to have made it a lot less likely to happen.
If someone actually knows what causes this particular type of crash, then please tell me.

CREDITS
-------
This patch was created by Matthew Beckett (matt@matthew-b.demon.co.uk), using Chuck's mix file of
C&C units with replaced icons and other graphics, although his credit is acknowlaged for the mix
file, as I don't actually know how to create my own from scratch. The rules.ini is all my work,
as is the title screen graphic.
