This is a beta version of a freeware utility. It is guaranteed to work on MY computer. This program has nothing to do with Activision, neither do I. (except that I play their Games)



---STUFF YOULL NEED TO KNOW---


THE BMP:

The bmp must be 24bit and uncompressed.

It MUST be 1/10th of the dimensions of the map you create with MakeTRN.
for example. If you used -
MakeTRN multst62 /c /w=1280 /h=5120
then your BMP MUST be 128 pixels wide and 512 pixels high.
the only valid heights and/or widths for the bmps are 128, 256, 384 and 512.



DOS4GW:

You must have DOS4GW.EXE somewhere in your PATH for this program to run.
Don't put 4gw in your addons directory, for Eg I keep mine in C:\Windows.
Also Dont try to run this program using the command line DOS4GW bmp2hgt.exe - just run the exe.
If 4GW is in your path the program will find it.
If you Havent got DOS4GW search the web for it. (hint: it comes with Quake 1)



USAGE:

Currently BMP2HGT works only one way.

1. Place BMP2HGT.EXE in the directory of your choice.
2. Place a BMP file called HGTMAP.BMP in the same directory.
   (an example file is included in this Zip)
3. Run the program. (you can even double click it ;)
4. A file called HGTMAP.HGT will be created.
5. rename and move this to whatever is approriate for the map you are making.
   (for example call it multst62.hgt and stick it in the addon directory.
6. If you know what you are doing-
   make a batch file to run the prog, delete, move and rename all the files for you.
   It makes things very easy. Batch files are much cooler when you drag and drop to them. :)

NOTE: This Program does not make TRN files. So If you dont have one - make one using MakeTRN /c and then copy over the HGT file that it generates with the HGT file created from your BMP. Also, delete the LGT file that MakeTRN creates before you run BattleZone.



IDIOT PROOFING:

This program is not Idiot proofed at all. If you dont follow the instructions- it will probably crash.

BattleZone rips.

TRICKS WITH LGT AND MAT FILES:

LGT files auto-generate if they are missing. So, if you want to increase or decrease the lighting contrast (or where the mat layers sit) simply gen your map at a very low or very high height mod, run bzone for the .lgt and/or MakeTRN with /p for the .mat then remake the map using bmp2map again at the normal height and voila. No mucking about with ini's whatsoever :)



WHATS NEXT:

Nothing, nada. Thats it for the .hgt maker.
Maybe a .MAT maker thats is a little more flexible than Maketrn. ie using colour coded bmps.
