The BattleZone Cartographers Guild Map Adder v1.0b
written by Snark (Marc Bellingrath) <marc@bellnet.com>

What is the Map Adder?
------------------------
Map Adder is intended to make it easier for players to
setup new maps. The author of a new map can include
MAPADDER.EXE in their map distribution, so players only
need to copy the map files into the BattleZone\addon
folder (directory) and then run Map Adder from
BattleZone\addon and give the name of the map.
This should simplify instructions on how to setup a new map.

Ease Of Use
-----------
I hope the tutorial does not seem more complex than it
really is. MAPADDER.EXE does make adding new maps a lot
easier, especially if a player does feel comfortable
editing the game files on their own.

Who is the BattleZone Cartographers Guild (BZCG)?
-------------------------------------------------
The BattleZone Cartographers Guild (BZCG) is dedicated
to the creation of BattleZone multiplayer maps (as you
know you can't make single player maps... yet). Our site
contains tutorials and tips on building/designing maps
and serves as a place for map makers to post their maps
and exchange ideas.

We also review and distribute maps to enhance the gaming
experience for the players. This gives builders more
feedback and hopefully results in better maps for everyone.

As a map builder, how do I use the Map Adder?
---------------------------------------------
After you made your map (and possibly renamed it using
Map Renamer), create a .MAD file for your map.
(If your map is named thearena, it would be thearena.mad)
This file will only contains one line of text, namely the
one you would tell players to add to their netmis.txt file.

Include MAPADDER.EXE and your map's .MAD file in your
zip file (or other archive you want to use for distribution).

In your setup/installation instructions indicate that
after copying all the map files (including MAPADDER.EXE)
to the BattleZone\addon folder (directory), the player needs
to run MAPADDER.EXE and then (when asked) type in the
8 character name of your map. (thearena, multst07, etc.)

Unless the player did not copy all the files into their
BattleZone\addon folder (directory) or already has a map by
the same name installed, the setup is complete and the map
can be used.

For Example:
You just finished making and testing a new strategy map
named multst07. It is meant for 4 players and you want
to call it "Scrapland".

Usually you would tell players to edit their netmis.txt
to include the line:

multst07.bzn	multst07.des	4 4	netveh.txt S Scrapland

Instead, create a file called multst07.mad using Notepad
(from windows), Edit (from DOS), or another text editor
and type in the line for netmis.txt. All multst07.mad should
contain is:

multst07.bzn	multst07.des	4 4	netveh.txt S Scrapland

Assuming you will release your map as a zip file, zip up
multst07.* along with MAPADDER.EXE into Scrapland.zip.

Most map authors include a readme file with their map that
contains instructions on how to setup/install the map.
Your instructions should tell the player to unzip all the
files that come with your zip file into the BattleZone\addon
folder (directory). After that the player needs to run
MAPADDER.EXE from BattleZone\addon and when asked, type in
multst07 (the name of your map).
Don't forget to include the readme file in your zip file.

Unless the player did not copy all the files into their
BattleZone\addon folder (directory) or already has a map by
the same name installed, the setup is complete and the map
can be used.

Unique Map Names
----------------
After completing a map you can now change the 8 character
filename of the map from mult???? to a unique name like
thearena. This should prevent duplicate names in maps,
as well as ensure that players have the original name the
author intended when they play a multiplayer game.
You can download Map Renamer off the BZCG website at
