Note from SF--

Didn't have much time to write a text manual for this thing... busy enough
as it is. :) Anyways, I just figured I'd copy/paste the old LateNight 1
readme and change the filenames as appropriate. First, though, I'd just like
to say a few things about the release.

Quake 2 Late Night -- Episode 2 is not technically a Phantasm project.
Basically, all of the filming and source material for this movie was directed
and produced by the Quake 2 Late Night team.

Back in February Phantasm was still working on breaking into Q2 Movies,
and even though we didn't have any of our own projects in active production I
still wanted to try and cut my teeth on some q2 editing--well, lo and behold
I heard that the production on Quake 2 Late Night -- Episode 2 had been quit.
Viola! :) So, I dropped a mail to Toxy and Essobie offering to finish up
the movie, and they said 'Cool!' Essobie sent me a big chunk of source
material (mostly unorganized, the rat bastard :) and I got to work.

This movie has been a learning experience for me. As such, there may still
be some 'rough spots' in the final production, even though I've tried to
streamline it as much as possible. The model actors in the opening footage
may appear a bit 'jerky'... this is due to early work at extending the length
of footage, and though I could have fixed this by going through and editing
the individual frame numbers in each block, I did not have the time or the
willpower to spend 2 hours editing frame numbers. :)

Also, there is a glitch in software mode when Llama 'exits'... :) This
only appeared in the second to last copy of the movie, so I have no idea why
it's there or how to fix it... anyways, it's no big (hey, even Eschaton:
Nightfall had this error!), but it is in there (doesn't seem to happen in
accelerated mode).

Hope you guys enjoy the movie. Like I said, it has been a learning
experience, and after finishing this I feel that I have enough experience and
knowledge to do some serious work on some Phantasm productions. :)

I'd like to thank Toxy and Essobie for letting me do this, and Overman for
providing invaluable support via e-mail by answering my many questions about
q2 demos.

Quake 2 Late Night with Toxy: A Quake 2 Movie
                                   Episode 2
                 =============================================

Quick Start:

To install, just unzip the movie into a directory (i.e. c:\quake2\latenite2\)
and then run the late2.bat file from the directory.

For reference, the command line is

quake2.exe +set game latenite2 +map q2ln2.dm2

To view the movie, just double click on the late2.bat file and all should
go well.

For some reason if the incorrect video options load up (i.e. you start up in
software mode instead of OpenGL) or you have to stop the demo to raise the
console, try typing in the following lines in the console:

set game latenite2
demomap q2ln2.dm2

If this workaround does not work for you, or you are unable to view the movie
at all, please mail any problems (with details/symptoms) to:

starfury@shawneelink.net

Zip Contents:

late2.bat Start file for the movie (/quake2/late2.bat)
pak5.pak Compilation Pak file containing all materials needed for
                 the demo viewing (/quake2/latenite2/pak5.pak)
config.cfg Seems to fix some problems...
readme.txt You're reading it. CONGRATS!!!!! (/quake2/latenite2/readme.txt)

Credits:

Quake 2 Late Nite was conceived from the sick heads of Toxy and Essobie. The
script, blocking, and concept were all joint efforts of the two.

The Edge is a deathmatch map created by ID Software (but you guys knew that:)

The redeath.pcx skin that Essobie wears was created by Essobie. The Toxy skin
is a default Q2 Skin, and the skin used by the illustrious CRT is a default
from Rocket Arena (or so I am told--SF). The skin for 'Player' was created
by I.P. Freely.

Voice acting was done by Essobie and Toxy in their respective parts. CRT
kindly took the time out to do a small interview via email, and turned it
into real voice. StarFury did a bit part as the Llama, mainly because the
Script and lines he recieved did not match up, and he had to 'adlib' most of
the Llama's lines to go with the lines from Toxy. Hey, it turned out pretty
good!

Filming and Sound Mixing were coordinated by Essobie.

Editing and Additional Sound Mixing were done by StarFury of Clan Phantasm.

Special thanks to the following individuals for helping us out at one time or another with
this project:

David Wright (aka CRT) for being not only the the author of the best Quake 2
mod in the universe (Rocket Arena 2) but also for being the author of easily
the best Quake Related Utility program to date: Keygrip2. Oh yeah, and he
also did an interview!

This is the only plagarizing I've ever done... honest! :)

   StarFury of Clan Phantasm, out.
