I. Introduction
=============================================================================

  The Paradox Effect (TPE) is a true Total Conversion for Quake which is firmly
rooted in a rather bleak, not-too-distant future... The storyline constantly
surrounds the player, playing a vital role in the single player experience.
Thirteen new weapons, eleven new items, fourteen new creatures and twenty-seven
levels shall be released in the final registered package. Completely new graphics
and new game physics create a game quite unlike that of standard quake...

II. Quick Start
=============================================================================

Create a directory "PARADOX" under your QUAKE directory. Unzip the enclosed
file "PDX-B095.ZIP" in "PARADOX". Start Quake using the "-GAME PARADOX"
parameter. NOTE: do not overwrite the PAK0.PAK file in your QUAKE\ID1
directory.

To play the single player map, at the console, type "MAP PE1M1". To set the
skill level, type "SKILL #" where "#" is a number (0-3, 0 being easy and 3
being nightmare). Finally, type "RESTART" to restart the map at the desired
skill level.

The three maps included in the beta are as follows:

	PE1M1	- Mountains of Edroznia (Single Player)
	PDM1	- Terran Alliance Laboratories	(Deathmatch)

The original four ammo areas have been replaced with the following:

	AN - Acid Neutralizers - type 'C' to use
	     (self-explanatory)
	AP - Armor Patches - type 'V' to use

	      or 25 points of a five percent armor
	      if you have none)
	PF - Personal Forcefield - type 'B' to use
	     (Provides complete invincibility...
	      utilizes cells at the rate of thirty
	      per second)
	FE - Fire Extinguishers - type 'N' to use
	     (self-explanatory)

The weapons are numbers 1 through 9 as follows:

	1 -	Axe
	2 -	Standard Laser Rifle Cell based
	3 -	Heavy Laser Rifle Cell based
	4 -	Dartgun 3 types of dart ammo
