Quake Superheroes v1.0!!!

Preamble:

This is the "final" version of Quake Superheroes. Basically, it's gone
about as far as its going to go, and I want to be able to concentrate on other
projects. I totally feel that this is an awesome mod, and it was a lot of fun
to create and to play, but now it is finished. There will likely be tournaments
in the future (congrats to Danger Mouse, the winner of the first), as well as
bug fixes, but probably not any new major changes (unless someone out there
wants to pay me to do them :P). So, have fun and stuff, our next project will
be announced soon and is already underway.
-SoulScythe

Actual Manual and Stuff:

Ok, well, Quake Superheroes is basically a bunch of superheroes trying to
annihilate each other, just like regular quake except you're much more powerful.
So is everyone else, though, too (heh). Each player gets three super powers,
one from each category, Active, Passive, and Special. Active powers are used by
impulse 200 or 22, which should be bound to a key. Passive powers just happen,
and Special powers modify the weapons and abilities already in the game. Being
superheroes, all the weapons do 1/2 damage to you. Truth, justice, and the
American way? Whatever. I just want to start trashing bozos. Guess
Superpeople would be a better dscription than superheroes, cause they aren't all
that heroic. Maybe even supervillans. Just don't be a supercamper. :)

Impulses 201-206 are automatically bound to keys for you, thereby making you
life that much easier. Impulse 201 is bound to the Insert key, and 206 to the
Page Down key, and all the rest to the other four buttons in that cluster. Sorry
if these are the keys you use to move! It was just too hard for most people the
grasp the concept of binding keys and was more trouble that it was worth. It
should only do it once, so if you feel inclined you can write a script that
changes it back to your normal config. Up to you. Aren't I nice? Oh yeah, and
your grappling hook impulse will also use your active power, for you CTF players
(you know who you are...).

Important impulses (i.e., already bound to keys):
--- Impulse 22 or 200: use active power [not bound to a key, must do manually]
p Impulse 100: list powers that you have
--- Impulse 130: list the available active powers
--- Impulse 160: list the available passive powers
--- Impulse 190: list the available special powers
Ins Impulse 201: Increment Active power
Home Impulse 202: Increment Passive power
PgUp Impulse 203: Increment Special power
Del Impulse 204: Decrement Active
End Impulse 205: Decrement Passive
PgDn Impulse 206: Decrement Special
o Impulse 210: Return to observer mode
 [ Impulse 213: Decrement skin
 ] Impulse 214: Increment skin

Active power descriptions

Kinetic throw - If you hit, target gets thrown in a random direction
                         and takes some damage.

Morphing - Changes you randomly into an item. Basically to hide.
                         Like a girl.

Freeze ray - Freezes someone for 2 seconds. Can't be done again
for five seconds after you hit, so perpetual freezing
is out, but it is still nasty. Fun with twin nailgun.

Death blow - Takes 2 seconds to charge. Your next shot does ALOT
of damage after it charges and uses 10x the ammo.

Black hole - Suck those bastards right up too you, normally so you
can boot them in the head.

Teleport - Teleports you to where you are looking, within range.
Try to be looking next to someone, not at them, or you
will just stop in front of them. If someone sees you,
it's cool to teleport past them so that you are behind
them and then hit them with a rocket.

Impulse 9 - Every 30 seconds or so, you randomly get an item. This
rocks almost as much as the freeze ray in my opinion.

Flame ball - Bounces around and does alot of damage on impact.
Like, enough to kill most superheroes :)

Curse - Reduces your target to 75% of their current ammo and
armor, also takes away 10% of their life and has other
adverse side effects. Do not try this at home.

Weird Bomb - You can drop bombs that do really weird things to
other people and stuff. Like steal their ammo,
throw them around, and redirect missiles. Five
different ways to annoy your opponent.

Kinetic Card - Shoots out five cards that so damage through people's
armor. This will piss them off.

Tracer - Nifty stream of lasers. Try it and see.

Teleport Beacon - You can set a beacon anywhere, and then teleport back
                         to that location at will.

Reverse Gravity - Defy the laws of physics! Amaze your friends!
Confound your enemies! Great for target practice!

Magnetize - Make your target a living (not for long) magnet! All
projectiles will be attracted to him for a few seconds
making him real easy to hit (even for you woosie
                         grenade folk).

Call Lightning - Call lightning from the skies to singe and sear your
                         hapless foes!

Power Anchor - Keep your dog on a leash. Not for use on other people.
                         (Yeah, right.)

Toxic Waste - Drop toxic waste barrels around to cover your escape or
just for fun. Be careful, they are highly explosive.

Tripwire Bomb - The ever popular tripwire explosive. Yea!

Meteor Storm - Calls a hail of meteorites down upon your foes,
                         causing great amounts of carnage.

Cancellation - Target your foe and cancel his quad, pent, ring,
                         biosuit, and then his life.

Ants in the Pants - A stupid power that makes your target jump around like
a madman firing his weapon uncontrolably. Pretty
                         hilarious.

Sweeper Bolt - Throws a wide bolt of energy that can hit multiple
                         opponents for double lightning damage.

Corrosive Gas - Creates a cloud of gass around you that destroys any
                         opponent's armor.

Plasma Blast - A neato-keen instant hit blast attack.

Passive power descriptions

Elastic - You take 1/2 damage, and impacts push you 10 times as
far. Rocket jumping kicks butt with this.

Flying - If you don't understand, thats just too bad. Go play
                          Doom.

Repulsion - People leave your presence in a hurry. Probably
because you are so ugly. Great on DM4 for pushing
                          people into the lava.

Boot to the Head - Your Ti Kwan Leap training complete, you decied to
show off. 80 damage if you touch somebody. Try with
                          super jump.

Immune to Radius - They better hit you if they want to kill you. And you
can discharge no problem. <-- Warning: Cheap Alert!

Inertialess - Other people don't move you when they hit you with
stuff. Basically, you say "What repulsion? what
kinetic throw?" and MOST importantly "What freeze
ray?" (You also take no damage from falling, but who
                          cares?)

Artifact Immune - Well, you don't get the benifits of quad damage or
pentagram, but you can work people over who have it,
and you laugh at people with quad, cause they can't
                          hurt you. At all. 0.

Regeneration - Help help I'm an idiot! I don't know what
"regeneration" means! I don't realize how fast it
works and how much butt it kicks!

Radioactive - People don't like standing next to you. Like,
REALLY don't. Cause their face starts to melt off
like in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Fun with vampire.

Force Field - After you get hit, you are invincible for 3 seconds.
Guess the force field doesn't kick in in time, or
something. Better kill them on the first shot.

Liquid form - You don't drown. Heck, liquid is your friend, to the
point that it heals you. Yes, lava too...heals ya
even faster. You also get to be invisible under
water. And you can use your shaft quite efficiently
                          there as well.

Metallic Form - You can pick up as much armor as you want, it just
                          keeps adding on.

Life Well - You can hold an amazing amount of life. You can
always pick up life boxes. Kinda like Metallic Form.
                          Hmm....

Invisibility - You turn invisible automatically and stay that way
until you fire. Then you have to wait ONE ENTIRE
SECOND until you turn invisible again. Dang. How
                          lame.

Reflection - You, like, reflect nails from you. They hit you and
then fly off to hit someone else. Yea! Also quite
                          effective against lasers and lightning....

Pickpocket - Take people's stuff, like armor, weapons, ammo,
health... even their shotgun. Heh, it rocks.

Super Luck - You're not just plain lucky, you're Super Lucky! Good
stuff happens to you all the time! You find pennies
                          with every step.

Earthquake - Every time you jump, you cause tremors. Falling from
heights can be quite nasty, for those you land near,
                          anyway.

Super Strength - The more health you have, the more damage you do and
                          less damage you take.

Ice Form - Freeze your enemies in their tracks. Anyone you touch
will be frozen, and when you are in the water this
effect extends in a radius around you. Get those
pesky Liquid Form jerks. You take a little more
radius damage than normal, and lava will kill you
                          instantly.

Speed - You go really fast. Pretty self-explanitory.

Special power descriptions

Indirect Fire - Up in the sky! It's a bird, its a plane, it's...a
grenade? Your grenades fire from a random direction
at the spot your target is standing...they pretty much
don't know where it's coming from. Great for you
camper losers :) Also works for other weapons. Of
                          course.

Super Jump - You jump. Far. Like the Tick.

Invis. projectiles - People see the explosions on the wall, but that's it.
"Watch out for those grenades!" "What grenades?"
                          Boom. Heh heh heh.

Fast projectiles - Those rockets get there in a hurry, and the grenade
                          launcher becomes really cool.

Vampiric attacks - You gain health for doing damage, at a ratio of 1
health for 3 damage. But you slowly loose health too
and can't get health boxes. Bummer.

Hasted attacks - Makes your weapons sound scary, and you ream people.
Nails do more damage and your shaft shoots REALLY far.

Reduced ammo use - Umm, you use a lot less ammo.

Chain guns - Makes the shotguns into machine guns...fire less
bullets super fast...great as a scare technique. Does
                          a lot of damage.

Twin fire - Two rockets. Four loads of buckshot. Nuff said.

Berserker rage - When you get low on life, you go berserk and start
slaughtering all in your path. Then you die.
                          How sad :(

Armor Piercing - Your hits go through armor straight to your target's
life, but you only do 2/3 damage.

Electrical Charge - You do a bit more damage and people fly a LOT further
                          when you hit them.

Sniper Shots - Your shotguns don't spread. That means you can ream
people at long range! Yea! Also, your rockets don't
explode, they just do more damage to whatever you hit.

Illusion - Quad damage, pentagram, and assorted other goodies all
rolled into one! Or at least, your enemies might
                          think so.

Aggrivated Attacks - When you hit someone they just keep bleeding! Great
                          for wearing down tough opponents.

Spread Shot - Your nails and rockets spread out, allowing you to hit
                          multiple foes with every shot.

Death Blossom - When you die, evil sprites spawn to avenge you.

Nail Option - A friendly little option follows you around, nailing
your opponents and just generally being a nuisence to
                          everyone else.

High Tech - Duck Dodgers of the 24th and a half century! All your
weapons ('cept the shaft) are like, made into Star
                          Wars memerobelia.

Baby w/ a Big Gun - You move real slow and have reduced health, but you
                          have a REALLY BIG GUN.

Final Note:

If you've read this far, you deserve to know that this most recent version
of Quake Champions has been acting strangely. It seems possessed or something
and tends to randomly send out egomaniacal-delusional messages in ALL-CAPS. I
realize that we all hate all-caps, but I have not yet been able to trace down
this odd behavior. Weird and strange effects often accompany these messages, so
watch for them. You won't be disappointed. :)

P.S. I also messed with the soldiers in single play, so that you can test powers
on them. They are a lot buffer and some powers that only work on players will
also work on the grunts (like pickpocket). The inspiration for this idea (and a
bit of code) is from <Bill Turner -shyft- shyft@fwb.gulf.net>'s XSoldier mod.
(Hope he doesn't mind.... :))

Y'know, I've always wondered if a happy face in parenthesis (as above) should be
"(blah blah blah :)" or "(blah blah blah :))". Email me if you know. I tend to
be inconsistant, so I hope I don't confuse you.

P.P.S. I know that there is some rumor going around that there is some sort of
secret message hidden in this mod; this is of course absolutely true. Since you
perservered through the readme, I'll give you a hint that the lazy
non-manual-readers won't get (till some spoil-sport spreads it around):

Remember the Rule of Fives, and that most John Dillengers are dead.

P.P.P.S. Oh, see if you can find Casper the friendly death blossom.
