                                GET RICH QUAKE

You're only in it for the money.

INTRODUCTION:

Get Rich Quake is a Quake deathmatch scenario that adds greed to the
violence we all love. The objective: get more money than your opponents. Pick
it up around the level, or just kill people and take it from them! Dont want
to lose all your money when you get fragged? Then find a good hiding place and
stash it in your cashbox. Play in teams, and your teammates can guard your
stash while you go out in search of more cash.

______________________________________________________________________________

MONEY:

Money appears where ammunition and health boxes are usually located.
When you pick up ammunition or a health box, a coin will soon appear in its
place. Soon after you pick up a coin, the standard ammunition or health box
will reappear.

You do not get credit for killing your opponents as you do in standard
deathmatch. Instead, your score is based solely on how much money you have. If
you are killed, you will drop your money in coins of various denominations.
Unlike backpacks, coins disappear soon after they are dropped. The more
valuable the coin, the sooner is disappears.

YOUR CASHBOX:

Your cashbox is your friend. It can hold some or all of your money in
safe keeping while you try to take out that annoying quad-damage-rocket-
launching jerk. Alternatively, you could leave it empty and use it to lure
your opponents into a trap.

Each player can have only one cashbox. To drop your cashbox, press the
cashbox key. (See the COMMAND SUMMARY section below.) Once youve dropped your
cashbox, you can press the cashbox key again to deposit half of your money in
the cashbox. To put the rest of your money in the box, press the cashbox key a
third time.

Once you step away from your cashbox, you will automatically pick it up
the next time you touch it. While youre away from your cashbox, you can press
the cashbox key to see how much money your cashbox contains.

If another player finds your cashbox, he or she will get all the money
you left in it. If your cashbox is stolen, you can drop another.

Your uniform colors appear on the sides of your cashbox for easy
identification. (DOS/Winquake only - see the GLQUAKE NOTES and QUAKEWORLD
NOTES sections below.)

	CASHBOX KEY RESULT
	--------------------------------------------------
	First press: Drop empty cashbox
Second press: Deposit half of your money
Third press: Deposit all of your money
	(Step away)
	Additional presses:	Check contents

THE GRAPPLING HOOK:

Get Rich Quake features the "Morning Star" grappling hook weapon created
by Michael Anzulovic (amichael@asu.alasu.edu) and later modified by Dave
"Zoid" Kirsch (zoid@idsoftware.com) for use in Threewave's Capture the Flag
modification. The version included in Get Rich Quake was further modified to
reduce "bouncing" when players are attached to walls and ceilings, and to
prevent chain links from obscuring the user's view.

The grappling hook can be selected in three ways:
1) Select the axe twice, or
2) Cycle through your weapons, or
3) Use the console command "hook"
(You can bind "hook" to a key for easy access.
See the COMMAND SUMMARY section below.)

THE SCREEN:

The status of your cashbox is shown by the key indicators in your
inventory. If your cashbox is somewhere on the level, and it contains up to
half of your money, you will have a silver key. If it contains the majority of
your money, you will have a gold key. If you are carrying your cashbox with
you, you will not have either key.

	STATUS DISPLAY
	----------------------------------------------------------
	Ready to drop: No keys
Cashbox holds up to half of your cash: Silver key
Cashbox holds more than half of your cash:	Gold key

______________________________________________________________________________

TEAMPLAY:

When you join a teamplay game, you will be prompted to join one of two
teams. The team selection process was made to emulate that of Threewave's
Capture the Flag, so CTF players should feel right at home.

In teamplay mode, a teams score is the total amount of money held by
its members. If there is a fraglimit set, then the game will end when a teams
score reaches that limit. During play, the team scores are available through
the "grq_scores" command. (See the COMMAND SUMMARY section below.)

Get Rich Quake also supports a special teamplay mode in which each team
can have only one cashbox. Once one player drops a cashbox, no one else on the
same team can drop a cashbox until the first one is picked up. Any player on
the team can pick up the cashbox and put it down again to add his or her money
to the teams stash. The money in the box will "belong" to the player who most
recently dropped it, so individual scores are not meaningful. The "SERVER
SETTINGS" section below shows how to activate this mode.

OPTIONAL RULES:

Break into Cashboxes:
You can pick up your own cashbox as always, but you'll have to break into
other people's cashboxes by hitting them with your axe. When you start
breaking in, the cashbox's owner will be warned that you're breaking in.
After 20 hits with the axe, the cashbox is yours.
(20 axe hits = 10 seconds of constant attack)

Drop coins when hit:
When you take damage of x% (and x > 10), you'll drop x% of your cash. For
instance if someone has $84 and 90 health, and they lose 45 health when you
hit them (50%), then they'll drop $42. This rule doesn't apply to
self-inflicted damage, so you can still rocket-jump without leaving a pile
of coins behind.

Anti-gravity Cashboxes:
When playing with anti-gravity cashboxes, you can attach your cashbox to walls
and ceilings. Simply use the grappling hook to draw yourself up to a good
spot, then place your cashbox as you normally would. This option is very
helpful on levels that don't have many good hiding places.

Disable Quad / Pentagram:
In this mode, the Quad-damage and Pentagram-of-protection powerups are
unavailable. A $5 coin will appear in place of the Quad-damage. A $10 coin
will appear in place of the Pentagram of protection.

Disable Grappling Hook:
This option prevents players from using the grappling hook.

Heavy Money:
In heavy-money mode, carrying money slows players down.

Anonymous Theft Messages:
The cashbox theft messages now name the theif as well as the victim. This
option reverts to the old system, so you can't tell who ripped you off
(unless you see their score go way up).

Deathmatch 3:
Deathmatch 3 is a deathmatch mode in which weapons are always available.
(When you grab a weapon, it doesnt disappear, but you can only get it once.)

See the "SERVER SETTINGS" section for information on activating these rules.

COMMAND SUMMARY:

	DESCRIPTION CONSOLE COMMAND DEFAULT KEY
	-----------------------------------------------------------
	Cashbox: cashbox [9]
	   (drop, fill halfway,
	    fill, status)

	Grappling hook hook [1] twice

	Show team scores:	grq_scores [0]
	   (teamplay mode only)
	-----------------------------------------------------------

If you don't like the default keys, you can bind these commands to other keys
on the keyboard for easy access. To do this, bring down the quake console by
pressing the ~ key, and type

bind x cashbox
bind f hook
bind n grq_scores

(Of course, you dont have to use the x, f, and n keys - choose keys that are
convenient for you.) Then hit ~ again to exit the console. Now you can execute
any special command with a single convenient keypress.

SERVER SETTINGS:

To start a server with special rules, first add together the values of
the rules you want:

	RULE VALUE
	-------------------------------------
	Break into cashboxes: 128
	Drop coins when hit: 64
	Anonymous theft messages:	32
	Disable Quad & Pentagram:	16
	Anti-gravity cashboxes: 8
	Disable grappling hook: 4
	Team box mode: 2
	Heavy Money mode: 1

and add the result "x" to the command line as

 	+temp1 x
	or
	+serverinfo temp1 x
	for quakeworld

For example, if you wanted to disable quad-damage and the pentagram of
protection (16), and you wanted anti-gravity cashboxes (8), your command line
would look something like:

	quake -game grq -dedicated +teamplay 2 +temp1 24 +map dm2
	or
	qwsv +gamedir grq +teamplay 2 +serverinfo temp1 24 +map dm2
	for quakeworld

If you want to play with deathmatch 3 rules, then add

	+deathmatch 3

to the command line.

NOTE: 216 is a good temp1 value to try (that's anti-grav, no quad/pent, drop
coins when hit, and break into cashboxes).

GLQUAKE NOTES:

So, you're one of the lucky Quake players with 3D graphics hardware
capable of running glquake. Here are a few things to keep in mind when playing
Get Rich Quake with glquake:

In glquake, the colors on a cashbox will NOT match the uniform colors of
its owner. This is due to a limitation of glquake. Also notice that all dead
bodies have the same uniform.

When looking for cashboxes, it is useful to fire rockets into dark areas
to light them up. By default, rockets in glquake are surrounded by orange
spheres of light. If you prefer the lighting effects of standard quake, you
can restore them. To do so, bring down the console by pressing the ~ key, and
type

gl_flashblend 0

Then hit ~ again to exit the console, and fire away.

______________________________________________________________________________

QUAKEWORLD NOTES:

In quakeworld, cashboxes are NOT marked with the uniform colors of their
owners. In teamplay games, however, cashboxes will be identified as either red
or blue.
