Millennium's Colored Quake2 Skin Packs Source

mill_q2clrskns_source.zip

This file contains four Photoshop 4.0 files: one with all of the colored male skins, one with all of the female skin, ones with all of the male heads, and one with all of the female heads. I've also included a helpful little file, the Quake2 palette in Photoshop format.

I must have received 100 emails about these PSD files, so here they are! Here's a brief explanation/tutorial to boot. I started with the male Grunt skin, grunt.pcx. I then converted him from Grayscale to Indexed Color mode. Then I went to the Color Table, and imported the Quake2 palette (thats included in this pack). Then I converted him to RGB mode, which is the mode that lets you do the cool stuff.

Once he was in RGB mode he was all mine. I used the masking tool to select all of the areas that I wanted to apply my colors to. Once I had all of the major, non metallic pieces of his suit selected I created a new layer and filled it with a dark red. Then I started playing with filling that layer with different colors, and changing it between the Multiply, Overlay, and Color modes (on the layers palette). For some colors Color works really well, but on others Overlay did the job. Anyhow, I messed with them for awhile till I got them where I liked them, then released them.

The female ones were pretty much a no brainer, since I still had the layers from the guys skins, but I did have to mess around a bit to make some non-metallic areas look metallic on her legs and crotch area. The heads were more of the same too. Just find the outline, fill it with the predetermined colors, and thats it!

I hope this has been helpful. Im glad everyone liked the skins so much. I think I just might do some more.

Until next time.
