II. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS *IMPORTANT*

Please follow these directions exactly.
Do not just extract all the files into a directory and run.

1. Make a directory for the files, and extract the ZIP to it.
    (e.g. c:\games\quake\keygrip)

2. Keep
        keygrip.exe
        nviewlib.dll
        lmpc.exe
        *.doc,*.txt
    in that directory

3. Move
        keygrip.dem
        example.dem
    to your id1 directory
(e.g. c:\games\quake\id1)

4. Copy (OPTIONAL)
        wqsspatch.exe
    to your quake directory
    (e.g. c:\games\quake)
and run it. It will patch winquake.exe to keep it from
    displaying screenshot messages.
ONLY USE WITH WINQUAKE VER 1.0, THIS DOES NOT CHECK VERSIONS

III. Starting and running KeyGrip

1. If you have <32MB RAM, you WILL want to close all
        open applications.

2. Set your desktop to 1024x768x16bit or higher, anything
less will look cut-off or distorted.

3. Run keygrip.exe

4. You will need to configure the directories in the dialog box.
If it cannot find the things it needs to run (i.e. winquake.exe
and lmpc.exe) in the directories specified, it will keep popping
up. You can ignore the "Fast Preview" check box until you read
        the keygrip.doc file.

5. After you have done this, you should be left with the program open,
nine white boxes on top, nine white boxes on bottom. Go on to
the next section to learn what to do with them.

IV. Your first movie

1. Now that you have the program open, it is time to load your
first movie. Use FILE-OPEN and select the example.dem
        in your id1 directory.

2. If everything is configured correctly, a dos window should
pop up and you should see LMPC running.
If not, check your directory configuration.

3. The LMPC window will not close automaticaly. To set it to
close automaticaly, click on the top left corner, go
down to properties, and select "close on exit"
        Now close the box.

4. Once the LMPC window is closed, you should be left with the
top 9 frames being filled with gray boxes and numbers.
Grey boxes represent screenshots that have not been taken
yet. The red numbers are the block numbers. Blocks 1-3 should
not be messed with unless you know what you are doing.

5. Hit the "full preview" button. This will launch WinQuake, run
the entire demo through and generate screenshots.
LMPC should run (and close) and you should get "Starting Quake"
WinQuake should start in a 320x240 window somehwere.
A short into demo (The Halls of KeyGrip) will load, when it
is done, you will be at the console.

6. The first time WinQuake is run, KeyGrip will pop up a dialog box
that says "HIT OK WHEN WINQUAKE IS AT THE CONSOLE"
If you do not see it, alt-tab to KeyGrip, it will come to
        the front. HIT OK

7. The demo will load, run, end, and the grey boxes will be replaced
        by thumbnail images.

8. Select the Zoom Thumbnail tool on the toolbar (4th from left)
Click on an image to see an enlargement in the lower right.

9. Now select the zoom out tool. Click on any frame twice,
the rightmost frame should be like 132 now.

10. Select the arrow tool. Click the second frame. Red X's should
now cover all other frames. Shift-click the next-to-last frame.
Red X's should cover all areas outside this now.

11. Select F/X - Reverse, the order of the frames is now backwards.
To see the effect in Quake, hit the "Play Selection" button.

12. Now select Edit - Copy, you have just copied the selection to
        the clipboard.

13. Click on the bottom panel, it should depress.

14. Do a File-New and put in a file name. (You should now see 1 grey box)

15. Do and Edit-Paste, there should now be several more grey boxes.
You can hit Update Viewable to see them. If the last frame
is still grey, it is because you cannot take a screenshot
            on the disconnect frame.

16. Now go back to the top panel. Scroll left twice using the |> button.

17. Select another range of blocks. Edit-Copy.

18. Go to the bottom and Edit-Paste at End.

19. Now go up to the top. Do an Edit-Select All

20. Use the inflag tool. Set the inflag at the point
        where your previous selection ended.

21. Do an F/X - Change speed, 50%, fade.

22. Now do an F/X - Color fade. The default settings are OK.

23. Do and Edit-Copy.

24. Go to the bottom and do an Edit-Paste at End.

25. You're DONE! Do a Full-Preview to update all the thumbnails
and see your movie in action. Note that the color fading
does not show up in the preview windows, but does show
        up correctly in Quake.

26. Do a file-save to save the movie! (The filename you specified
        in file-new will be used)

Please see the keygrip.doc for details of all the functions of the
program.
