skull hunters is a new deathmatch mod for heretic2 based on the classic 
headhunters mods of quake and quake2. here is the basic idea in a nutshell...
when you kill your opponent a flaming skull is left close by for you to pick 
up. just touch it and it will begin to slowly orbit your player. points are 
scored not for killing your enemies but only for sacrificing the skulls of 
the fallen to the gods at any shrine [just touch as usual]. collecting skulls 
is the important thing to remember here. 1 skull is worth 1 frag. 2 skulls 
are worth 3 frags. 3 skulls are worth 6 frags. 4 skulls are worth 10 frags. 
and on and on. the longer you wait to cash in... the more points you will 
score. but also the better chance you have of losing them all in some freak 
accident involving the wrong end of a phoenix bow or something. you can lose 
your carried skulls if you're killed! so dont get killed, and if you do... 
rush back to the scene of the crime and grab those skulls... they won't just 
lay around forever!

this mod can be played on any map [as long as it has at least one shrine] 
and even works on bladematch maps. of course it's a little slower there than 
in a full blown free for all skull collecting frenzy, but the gambling aspect 
remains. "shall i cash in these heads now or do i feel lucky today?"

some other features are...

ovum abuse discouragement in the form of a much greater chance of the victim 
becoming a superchicken and...
a server variable "llama" mode where all weapons become the hellstaff and 
all defensive spells become the ovum. this silly mode has the official 
"some bitch" seal of approval. 

so go get some head... er... i mean..score some skulls.

installation... 

unzip into your heretic2 directory preserving folder names. 
everything should end up in an SH directory. then connect to a server 
and seperate some of your fellow heretics from their skulls.

running a server...

notice the high frag limit. this is really the only thing thats any 
different from running your basic heretic2 server. if you can run a 
normal deathmatch server just add the...
 +set game sh
part and crank up the frag limit and you should be good to go.
                   
run heretic2 with something like this command line...  
            
D:\heretic2\Heretic2.exe +set game sh +exec dedicated.cfg

of course you may need to change the drive letter associated with your 
particular installation of heretic2. [and your heretic2 folder may even 
have a diferent name such as heretic ii]

you can also modify the sh_messages.txt in the server archive if you so 
desire. right now it contains scoring messages from headhunters for quake2 
but it is simple enough to change, so put whatever you want in there.
            
to enable the optional llama mode [all weapons become the hellstaff and 
all defenses become the ovum]... 
set llama 1   
try this in your dedicated.cfg or just type it in the console and then 
change maps.
             
with cheats enabled you can have a look at the groovy flaming skulls by 
using the commands... 
suckitdown head    [gives you one orbiting head]   
and                            
suckitdown heads   [gives you eight of the flaming satellites]
