Styx1 Player Model for Heretic II (Rev. B)
by Gwynhala (serotonin@earthlink.net) 09/06/1999
------------------------------------------------

This EXPERIMENTAL Heretic II player model, Styx1, was created using motion
capture data from Curvus. This is the 2nd version of this model. It
corrects the "skels" and "refs" problems in earlier versions of Styx1
that made the upper and lower body separate from each other sometimes.

The entire model, including the weapons, is made up of 2x2 "sticks", with
the standard Corvus skin applied. The next version of this model, Styx2,
will use actual weapons from the Heretic II game.

To use this model:

1) Unzip this archive to a new directory, base/players/styx1
2) Test the model by starting Heretic II, pressing ~ to get to the console, and
entering the following commands (leave out the roman numerals):
   i) deathmatch 1
   ii) skin styx1/corvus
   iii) map dmandoria
You should now be playing as styx1 instead of as the normal male model
3) You can't use this model in a multi-player game unless it is also on
the server. This version of Styx1 will work fine on a server, but the
weapons are just 2x2 sticks so you might want to wait for the next
   version, the fully-functional Styx2.

How It Works:

The motion capture tools by Gwynhala analyzed the motion of the Corvus 3D model
in all of its animation frames, and converted this to a description of how various
body parts (arm, leg, head) move in each frame.

The motion capture data was then applied to a simple stick skeleton to create a
new player model that moves the same way. In this model, the weapons are also
sticks (and incomplete).

The resulting new animation frames were written to a new TRIS.FM file in the
format expected by Heretic II for player models. Since no comprehensive
reference is available for the file format, the file format was approximated
using information available from various sources (such as Gwynhala's notes in
the file FlexModel.txt)
