Info
----

Q: What is this?
A: This is a very early "first-draft" of the Extreme News Ticker for private
   Beta testers only.

Q: The Extreme News what?
A: The Extreme News Ticker is a small tickertape program, dedicated
to keeping you, the avid 3D gamer up to date with the latest information
and news concerning Quake, Quake2, Unreal and Half-life.

Q: How does it do that?
A: ENT downloads the "live" 3D news webpage from the Web and actaully
"reads" each news item, works out when each story was written,
what the Headline is and sorts them all by time, before scrolling
them across your screen in all their original styling and colour.

Q: What about refreshing?
A: ENT can be set to display all the current news items then, "hide" and
only scroll when new news items are posted on the website(s).

Q: Does that mean it'll hog my Internet connection?
A: Nope. When it's checking for new news, it only downloads the first few
kilobytes of the page (up to the first news item) - just enough to
determine that the page has been updated. So if you set the refresh
rate to something realistic like 30 minutes, you'll never know it's
   there.

Q: What news sites are supported?
A: Currently PlanetQuake, PlanetHalflife, BluesNews, Redwood and
Halflife.Org are supported (only because those are the main sites the
ENT Author reads), but each website goes through exactly the same
"reading" algorithm, so in theory adding other websites to the program
will simply be a case of adding a new record to the ENT database.

Q: So what's the catch?
A: There is no catch. ENT is completely freeware. Written by a
member of the 3D gaming community *for* the 3D gaming community.
The only downside is that this is a Beta with about 90% functionality
and probably a couple of (as yet unknown) bugs.

Q: Wow! Nice one. So, why this cheesy question-and-answer readme?
A: Don't ask me...you started it.
