                                  The Story

Since the fall of Shub-Niggurath and the banishment of her minions,
Shub-Hulud has been in control of the Demonic Realms. She realised the
mistakes her sister made, and set about rectifying them. To start with, she
realised it was foolish to attempt to send in slow stupid creatures with
little battle training and worse weaponary to take of the world of men. Since
her sister's death at the hands of a lone marine, Shub-Hulud has been raising
a new army of quicker, more intelligent beasts, and has set about arming them
with greater weaponry, and teaching them tactics and how to fight. Now, the
army is ready. It is time for the new war to begin.

'Why won't this goddamned thing work?' You think as you hit the engine with
your spanner. Since the end of the last war, you have been hailed as a hero
by the masses, and now, after five years, have finally gotten back to the job
you love best - fixing your tank. Suddenly, the radio crackles into life.

'Sir, they're back! There's too many of them! I don't think we can hold much
longer, sir. Major, get down here now! Oh my God! What the hell is that! NO!
Holy S-'

The transmision ends, leaving only the silence of static.

Without pausing for thought, you grab your custom sub-machine gun from its
rack on the wall and slam in a clip. You clip the spanner onto your belt, just
in case your ammo runs out. Then you push open the door, ready to face the
creatures who have tormented your dreams for the last five years. Looks like
its up to you to save the world again.

                                   Weapons

In the past five years, the quality of weapons has increased drastically, so
no longer will you have to rely on converted DIY products to take out your
opponents. Each weapon also has an altenate fire mode, activated with impulse
13 (bound to X). Most weapons have a hit location system - that is, they do
more damage if they hit the target in the head, and less if they hit the feet,
as well as more damage if the target is hit in the back. Basically, try to aim
for the back of the head for maximum damage.

Weapon 1:

Spanner - There really is little to say about this one, except how fun it is.
This weapon has no alternate fire mode.

Weapon 2:

Sub-Machine Gun - Your own custom weapon, this baby fires an accurate stream
of shutgun pellets, tearing through flesh.
The alternate fire flings out a grenade if you have any
                  rockets.

Weapon 3:

Sniper Rifle - The assassin's favourite weapon fires an ultra high speed
projectile, which does more damage the longer the trigger is
held down. Holding down the trigger also engages the inbuilt
zoom feature, and a laser targetting dot. However, if the
rifle is zoomed in for too long, your aim begins to wobble, and
eventually you zoom back out again.
The alternate fire releases a slower, spinning spike which
tears open arteries and makes blood spray out of the hit
               target.

Weapon 4:

Ice Spray - This ultra accurate weapon fires a fast stream of ice paticles,
which pierce flesh and sear their targets with emmense pain, and
shoot straight through people and out the other side.
The alternate fire releases a ice ball, which doesn't hurt
enemies much, but can freeze them, and has a much slower rate of
            fire.

Weapon 5:

Flame Thrower - For when simple destruction is your style, this weapon fires
gravity affected flames, which catch living creatures on fire.
The flames can even spread from creature to creature! Be
careful though, as you can also be burned to death if a
burning creature gets too close! The flames go out if
emmersed in water or slime, and also burn out after a few
                seconds.
The alternate fire flings out a pod, which explodes after a
few seconds, releasing a cloud of napalm.

Weapon 6:

Plasma Gun - This has to be your favourite weapon. A rapid fire weapon, this
gun sprays out balls of hot gas, which boil water and melt flesh.
The weapon is quite inaccurate, but if it kills someone, the
extreme heat often explodes their body in a shower of meat, even
though each individual shot only does a small ammount of damage.
The alternate fire is much slower, but fires out FIVE plasma
             shots all at once!

Weapon 7:

Railgun - The mother, father and great-grandmother of all weapons. It's
official name is the Electro-Magnetic Pulse Rifle, and it uses an
altering magnetic field to throw out particles of aluminium at such
a speed, that they even burn the air behind them. Needless to say,
you can shoot through people with this gun.
The alternate fire releases a Hunter Seeker Probe. This is a new
device recently perfected by Ix Enterprises, and is tipped as:
'The best assasination device since the sniper rifle'
It fires a small, silent device, which is piloted by the person who
fires it, and injects the person it hits with a fast acting poison.
To use it, aim the direction you want to fly in, and hold down
          'attack' to fly forwards.

Weapon 8:

The Deleter - A weapon so powerful it will remove all trace that an opponent
ever existed. After a few shots of this rapid fire gun,
opponents will suddenly freeze in their tracks, and be
surrounded by a ball of swirling particles. Then, the particles
disappear, and the enemy is annihilated!
The alternate fire throws a ball which flies out like a grenade,
but after touching the floor, flies up into the air firing out
lightning beams at any nearby monsters and in random directions.

                                Monsters

Shub-Hulud has drawn creatures further from the depths of hell, and taught
them to fight and hate. Of those original creatures that remain, she has
rearmed and taught to fight better.

Grunt - The grunts remain similar to the originals, except they now look
better, strafe in combat and tote a combination shotgun/grenade
launcher. If you are close enough to be hit with the grenade launcher,
        you'd better watch out.

Spider - The dogs of Shub-Niggurath's army have been replaced with these giant
bugs, who spit acid on their enemies.

Snakeman - The slow, clumsy ogres have been replaced with faster, sleeker
snakemen, who dodge attacks and spray their opponents with nails.

Psionic Slug - These tough skinned giant slugs use their inherent psycic
powers to launch rings of mental energy at their enemies. They
have replaced the knights in Quake's armies.

Enforcer - Shub-Hulud has replaced the pathetic enforcers with renegade
human marines, who carry railguns which burn the air brightly
behind them and explode on contact, strafe intelligently during
combat, and even duck under their enemies' fire.

Turret - Shub-Hulud has had placed computer controlled gun turrets where her
hell knights used to reside. Though they do not move, they pump
lasers and nails efficiently, and even target lead.

Expect more monsters in future releases.

                            Hit Location System

In an attempt to make this patch more realistic, I have coded an advanced Hit
Location System, which splits the body up into 6 zones as follows:

        Face : 2 x Damage
        Torso/arms : 1 x Damage
        Legs : 0.25 x Damage
        Back of head : 3 x Damage
        Back : 1.5 x Damage
        Back of legs : 0.4 x Damage

As you can see, it is obviously best to aim for the head all the time, and
especially the back of the head, if you get a chance. This Hit Location System
only works with vaguely human shaped creatures like Grunts, Marines, Shamblers
and Snakemen. On other creatures, such as spiders and fiends, all weapons do
normal damage. Weapons like the flame thrower and grenades also do normal
damage to anyone.

                                      AI

Most of the monsters have improved AI, some strafe intelligently in combat,
and some even duck under their enemies' attacks. I am still working on the AI,
and future versions will have even better AI, such as hiding behind objects.

                              How To Use The Mod

Firstly, install the mod in a directory off your quake one, e.g.

c:\games\quake\newwar

With recursive directories included, i.e. the model files are all in the

c:\games\quake\progs

Directory. Then, run quake with the command line:

quake -game newwar

And start a new single player game. The gameplay is exactly like normal Quake,
i.e. find weapons, kill people. There is only one impulse which you will need,
IMPULSE 13, which is used to activate the alternate fire of a weapon. Bind it
to a key.
				Gibbable Bodies

Just for fun, I've made it so that if with walk over an enemy body, it gibs.
The bodies are not solid, so it won't slow you down, just add a little
effect.
