The Harb!ngeR of Fish's 'Escape' level collection/patch - README.TXT

**************************************************************

The Story:

Shub-Niggurath's gristly remains shatter around you as your battered
body materialises in the space that until recently had held her bloated
whale-sized mass of flesh. Tightlipped, you watch as the bloody remains
tumble and roll away, the recent torment of the telefrag still moving
through Niggurath's receding consiousness.

Gripping your broad bladed axe in one scarred hand, you limp to the largest
mass of flesh, the only one that still pulses horribly. Shub-Niggurath feels
you aproaching even in the unimaginable divided torment, and she finds the
energy to scream. The thin, whistling wail penetrates you ears, causing you
to wince in pain.
"Shut up, Bitch."
You spit the words at her, and then, with all the power at your disposal, you
plunge the bloody axe deep into her pulsing, horrible heart. With a final,
chilling moan that rumbles and shakes the ground, Shub-Niggurath, oldest of
her family, and leader of uncounted thousands of monsters, died, in all of the
hideous agony that she deserved.

Standing before the bloody lump of now lifeless flesh, you sway as the
searing fumes raised by the nearby lava surround you. Your vision begins to
blur, and your eyes to fade. Your last lucid thought, before consiousness
leaves you, swims through your mind,

"How the hell am I 'gonna get out of this place?"

Time passes...........

Later.

You awake.

Consiousness returns.

Slowly.

After a quater of an hour, you feel ready to stand. Woozily you raise yourself
off the tough grass you were on. The alien, purple sky of Shub-Niggurath's
home world glows sullenly above you. Scratches in the ground surround you,
as if someone or something has dragged you to here, this lonely piece of
ground below rock cliffs. Quite close to you is an entrance to one of the
metal palaces that Quake's forces seem to construct on whatever world they
land on.

Uneasily you notice that all your weapons have been taken, bar the consealed
shotgun hidden under your battered armour, and the heavy axe, still gripped
tightly in your fist.

Slowly you limp into the palace. Walking down one of the three corridors
before you, you soon find yourself in the familiar half-reality of slipgate
space/time. Materialising, you find yourself trapped in a small cage. By the
worst misfortune, you have fallen foul of Quake's security mesures. As the
gloating guard explains, you are in a mining colony on a world in the very far
reaches of the outer rim, where you will work for the greater good of Quake by
mining iron ore in the shafts below the prison. With a parting insult, the
evil smelling guard turns and begins to walk slowly out of the room,
sauntering, spitting at the floor. Scurrying rats peer into your cage.

Your rage builds quickly, to go through all of Quake's torments, and to
destroy Shub'Niggurath herself, only to find yourself trapped by some wisarse
guard who probably doesn't even know that his leader is currently being eaten
by her own fleas!

Your eyes flashing a dangerous red, you pull free your consealed shotgun, and
aim it carefully at the receding man's back....

Explanation:

These levels, (Currently four levels and one start map) are desigened to take
place immediatly after the finish of Quake, you faint on Niggurath's lava
surrounded island, only to wake up before one of Quake's palaces. (You have
been dragged there by one of the frendly marines that have fought with you
from time to time in, umm, co-operative mode? Although you will never know
this).

Imprisoned and confined, you must find your way, firstly out of the mining
prison, and then off the prison world entirely.

Good luck!

This is also a minor patch, since we have added the rat, which scurries around,
gibs when killed, dies when trodden on, etc...

God knows why we made this, but I think I was bored....

To run the patch, unzip the files into their proper directories as shown in
the .ZIP file, in a subdirectory of Quake, ie:

Specification:

HARBSTAR.BSP - Harb!ngeR's start map, all four skill levels are available,
and the ultimate exit will lead to the first level in the
               Escape series.

ESCAPE.BSP - The Prison/sewage complex
A small/medium sized single player map, in which you will find
yourself struggling to stay alive, especially in nightmare
mode. This map features the initial escape into the prison
complex, until you can reactivate the prison lift to take you
               down into the mining area.

ESCAPE2.BSP - The Mine,
A larger map set mostly in the mining complex, except for some
areas such as the crusher, and the open air areas.

ESCAPE3.BSP - The Town/Sewage Works
A medium sized map which features the longest wind tunnel I've ever
made, some nice sewage facilities, and a hell knight torturing a gimp
by roasting him over a slow fire.

ESCAPE4.BSP - The Storage Yard,
A small map, I'm not too satisfied with the texturing on this one, so
if you fancy asking me to help on one of your projects, don't look at
this map! It features a nice, look behind you! Kind of section as you
               stalk through the yard.

ESCAPE5.BSP - The Escape
This is what it is all about, here you will find yourself at
Quake's starport, where the Iron is exported on giant container
ships, one of which you will have to sneak on board while no
one is looking, not that things are ever allow to go to plan in
               these situations......
