How to install and run the Quake II Beta

1. Put the Quake II CD in the drive

   a. Assuming that you have the automounter running the Quake II CD will be
      available at /cdrom/quake2

   b. Download the script q2-install.sh from
      http://www.planetquake.com/eclipse/download.html

   c. Run the shell script q2-install.sh which copies and/or links the
nessesary files from the CD to your local disk (it can reside on a
NFS mounted filesystem, but for the sake of performace - keep it on
      local disk).
      ./q2-install.sh /export/quake2
This installation takes about 350 MB of diskspace

   d. If you're low on diskspace you can install the CD contents via symlinks:
      ./q2-install.sh -l /home/matt/quake2
This installation takes about 4 MB of diskspace

2. Installing the Quake II patch

   a. There are two versions available:
q2-3.20-x86-full-ctf.exe - use this if you're going to play Capture
The Flag (and other similar mods)
q2-3.20-x86-full.exe - use this if you'll be playing alone

We recommend that you get the CTF version - if you're going to download
why not take the whole package...

      Download one of them from:
      http://www.fileplanet.com/index.asp?section=138&file=6581&download=1

   b. Then unzip it into your existing directory structure:
cd /export/quake2 (or wherever you put it)
      unzip -L /tmp/q2-3.20-x86-full-ctf.exe

3. Time to play!

   a. You have to have the Quake II CD in the CD player, due to copyright
      restrictions.

   b. ./quake2
