Icewar by PearlSlam

This is my second released map to date. It's meant to be
a fun alternative to the normal run of the mill pball maps
that we are all accustomed to.

There are 8 spawn points for each team, 6 below deck and 2
on top. Each player starts with a fully loaded Automag or
Autococker. Once you jump off your base and onto the ice
you should not be able to get back up. The only supplies
that are available to you are paint balls. Because of the
use of pre-loaded weapons and gear, this map will only work
properly in version 1.6 (server) or later.

There is a known bug/feature when using a large area of ice
in a map. You can get going really fast as you move around
the ice. It takes some practice, but once you get the hang
of it you can really get going fast. I think of this as a
feature, since you can gain speed on real ice too. (Btw,
there is no ICE parameter in a quake2 map. It's really a
parameter called "slick" that is applied to the brush, coupled
with the "trans33" value to make it look clear like ice.)

I have included some ramps on each side of the arena (per
Fembot's suggestion) that allow you to catch some major air
if you have built up some speed. **NOTE** You can cap the
flag if you jump really high and brush against the outside
glass of your bases flag area. You can also cap by going up
the ladder into your flag area.

Per the suggestion of many, I have added a small non-slick area
below both ladders to make getting up the ladders much easier.
You can see the faint outline of this area.

I have also built a jail area which is a simplified version of
the map. I cleaned up the ice so that you can skate on the ice
without slowing down. There is even a finish line. Have fun
with it.

I know that this map does not do very well in Software mode.
The effects that are used in the map are more taxing and require
a GL based video card (TNT or Voodoo) to be seen properly. If you
do not have a GL card at this time, I highly suggest you get one as
newer games (like Quake 3 Arena) require them. It's worth the money.

The only other negative comment that I have received on this map is
that it is too small. It's meant to be small and fast paced. Similar
to a speedball type map.

Thanks to the following people for helping me Play Test and improve
this map:

Fembot, Blue, Lynx, Dobe, Chris_G, MFornal, Fryth, Jitspoe, anyone
who took the time to download the beta and hop on the server, and anyone
else I might have missed.

Have fun,
Pearl
