INSTALLING THE VB40032 RUNTIMES

vb40032.zip contains the three Visual Basic runtime files required for
Visual Basic 4.0 32-bit programs to run. Windows and Visual Basic
expects to find these files in the \windows\system subdirectory.

Your system may have one or more of these files already, installed in
\windows\system by some other program. However, your files may be older,
earlier versions. Runtimes like these are "backwards-compatible"; that
is, newer ones will do everything the older ones did, plus more. So you
can always replace an older version runtime with a newer version.

To install these runtimes in your system:

1 - Extract the three files MSVCRT40.DLL, OLEPRO32.DLL, and
VB40032.DLL from the .zip archive (using a PKZIP compatible utility such
as WinZip or PKUNZIP) to a temporary working directory.

2 - Use the Win95 File Explorer utility or the MS-DOS "MOVE" command to
move each of the files into your \windows\system directory.

OURS ARE NEWER: If any of the files already exist in your \windows\system
directory, Explorer or the MOVE command will warn you of this. Closely
check the file dates of the file already in your system. It should be
older than, or the same date/time as, the new VB runtimes you're trying
to install. That's good. It's safe to copy our vb40032 files over
yours.

YOURS ARE NEWER: These vb40032 runtime files should be the newest in
existence, but still, things happen. So, if you have newer files, do NOT
destroy yours by overwriting them with the vb40032.zip files. Your newer
runtimes should work just fine, and you can then delete the vb40032 files
you don't use.

Install programs do this date and version checking for you, and are
careful not to overwrite newer versions with older files. However,
adding a fancy "smart" install program to this package would triple its
size.

We have confidence that you can do the simple task of unzipping, file
moving, date checking, etc. And, as my grandfather was so fond of
saying, "It's good for your character."

If you have any problems with the install, feel free to contact us for
help.

David
