This archive contains E-Racer/2, the worlds fastest duplicate file finder
                                  for OS/2

   E-Racer/2 features:

o Use E-Racer/2 to seek out and delete duplicate files anywhere on
your hard disk or network. Save tons of disk space!

o E-Racer/2 uses advanced signature analysis to compare files. It
can find duplicate files, even if you rename them!

o Works on FAT, HPFS and NTFS via Peer networking. Long filenames are no
   problem!

o Native 32 Bit OS/2 application. SMALL! Less than 200k Executable
size. Compare with Clone Cleaner that weighs in at 1.9 Megabytes!

o E-Racer/2 blows away the competition when it comes to finding
duplicate files on your local hard disk or network. In benchmark
tests, it is more than twice as fast as Clone Cleaner 2.20, and much
more robust than the aptly named SADD (ie. E-Racer/2 actually works).

o E-Racer/2 allows you to "mark" duplicate files and delete them
either one at a time or in groups.

o E-Racer/2 sorts duplicate files to show you the largest ones at
   the "top of the list"

o E-Racer/2 employs a "Smart Viewer" that opens different file
types using the appropriate viewer application. This lets you "peek"
at a file you may or may not want to delete. This feature is
customizable by the user - Use PMView to view graphics files, Lotus
Word Pro for DOC files, Etc. Use any OS/2 application to view
files, or listen to dupe audio files!

o E-Racer/2 can use palette comparison to find GIF files that are
similar, but not exact duplicates of each other.

o E-Racer/2 has almost unlimited capacity for file comparison.
Scan your entire network and peer drives for dupes!

o E-Racer/2 can look inside Zip files using PKZip or InfoZip and
compare the files within to other uncompressed files and Zips on your
system. It can delete individual duplicate files inside Zips!

o E-Racer/2 can build a database that makes future scans and location
   of duplicate files even faster!

o E-Racer/2 can warn you if you are about to delete a Read-only file
or a file that has not been marked as backed up.

o E-Racer/2 allows you to compare the files found in 1 or 2
subdirectories on a single drive or on different drives.

o You can specify UNIX style file wildcards to look for or avoid
looking for various matching file names.

o Internationalizable by the end user! Translate all the screens
and help into your native language! (Please send me a copy so I
can distribute the translations). Sorry - can't handle most Asian,
Arabic or Hebrew char sets. Single-byte char sets only.

 o On-line hypertext help.

Documentation in several word processor formats are available for
free download on the web page. There is also an online version of the
E-Racer/2 manual in the page - select the E-Racer/2 link.

Installation:

Unzip ERACER2.ZIP into an empty subdirectory. No special UNZIP command
line parameters are needed. Some of the files have EAs attached, but
as of the 1.2 release, you won't lose anything if you use a DOS unzipper
that does not understand EAs. You really should use an OS/2 unzipper
    though.

When Unzipping has completed, run INSTALL.CMD from an OS/2 command line,
or by double clicking on the icon. INSTALL will create a folder with
the E-Racer/2 icon, a Netscape icon to access online help, and an
information folder with all sorts of goodies in it.

To view an item in the information folder, just double click on it. The
OS/2 E.EXE editor should open the file and show it to you.

    Thats it!

Reinstallation/Upgrade

To recreate the E-Racer/2 folder, just run INSTALL.CMD again. You can
run it as many times as you want on an existing installation.

To upgrade to a new version, back up your old version in case something
goes wrong. Alternativly, you can start a new ERACER2 subdirectory
(different name or drive) and unzip the new release there.

unzip ERACER2.ZIP in an existing E-Racer/2
install directory. Use UNZIP -o ERACER2.ZIP (or the equivalent in your
    unzipper}.

    Delete your old E-Racer/2 folder

Run Install again. The E-Racer/2 folder will "point" to the new install.

The new version of E-Racer/2 will inherit your old registration key,
unless we do a major rewrite. Bug fixes and feature enhancements
are free. If we do a major release, you will have to re-register.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

    Q. Whats with this claim that E-Racer/2 is the fastest on the planet? Its
       going pretty darn slow here!

    A. If you have the Database set to R/W mode and scan a drive for the
first time, it WILL go slow. But *next time* it will scream. Why?
When you first build the database, E-Racer/2 analyzes ALL the files
on the drive. Next time it only analyzes the changed files.

Whats New:

v1.4
Smart Viewer Associations not working when using default INI. Fixed.
Cleaned up some glitches in dupe browser when user exits without
    deleting anything.

v1.3
A user with lots of free memory and a large, but nearly empty swap
file had a crash problem when opening the Setup Dialog page 1. I wish
I had his problem. Fixed. Thanks Bert!

v1.2
Nothing like the panic of a full GA release to flush out some
large bugs with big teeth. I blame it all on El Nio :)

If no ERACER2.INI file exists, a default one was not created.
This caused a crash later when the user tried to run the program.
    Fixed.

If a wildcard search produced no "hits", the program would crash.
    Fixed.

Program quit gracefully, but unexpectedly if user deleted all entries
in dupe list. Changed program to display timed message and return
to main menu. This allows you to select some

Fixed a typo in the MSG file. Added some new phrases in English
    file.

Improved command line help (-? or -h) behavior. Now help displays itself
in such a way that you can actually read it :)

v1.1
Added debug logging for people that want a list of all duplicate files
found. It creates a file called DUMP.LOG that contains the list. Previous
DUMP files are renamed DUMP.000, DUMP.001, DUMP.002... If you use this
feature, make sure you periodically delete the old ones- they are big!

Fixed the bug in the first setup page where you could not enter paths
to search, even if you shut off all the drive letters. You had to click
on some other cluster in the dialog to activate the path fields. Now the
path fields activate as soon as all the drive letters are un-checked.

Renamed the product to E-Racer/2. This avoids a conflict with an
existing Windows product that does duplicate file deletion. Dupefind
for Windows is not an IDK product, although we may develop one using the
same algorithm if there is enough interest.
