                 -----------------------------------------

			Made On 29 Nov 1999

DISCLAIMER
----------

This is a BETA installer. This mean that I'm not sure of what problems
could exist on it. Install it at your own risk. If you have problems that
you (or me) cannot solve, you always can re-install the drivers that come
with OS/2. See on "Bugs" section for details.

PLEASE: Don't e-mail me saying "THIS DOESN'T WORK. YOU ARE A JERK." or
something alike. I will *ignore* them. If you want to help, try to provide
all information you can about your system and a complete description of the
 problem.

NOTE THAT YOU CAN STAY WITHOUT SOUND if the instalation fails, BUT
I repeat: you ALWAYS can re-install the drivers that comes with OS/2. See on
 "Bugs" section for details.

First Look
----------

	Hi,

Here is Daniel Caetano. I'm a brazilian user of OS/2 and I
become concerned with Creative Labs' decision to stop supporting
OS/2, but once the last (and I mean *the last ones*) drivers are
working fine under OS/2, there is no reason for killing myself.

	Well... What is this "package"?
This package is a "union" for FOUR packages that Creative
labs distributed, but the FOUR have problems on its instalations.
So, I decided to eliminate the problems on instalation and try to
make it easy, too. Plus, I decided add Colin's package funcionality,
updating its package with updated drivers for AWE64 too.

Well, I hope you all enjoy that, because I think this is
the last time that we will see something from Creative for OS/2!

And YES! This is REAL. The support for AWE32 of this version
*WORKS* with all AWE64 Cards on the market up today (24/02/1998).

Therefore, I make no guaratees that this will work on your
machine, since I tested only on the three I have in my house...
Well, it worked well on the three... (-: But, if you find ANY
bug on the install, let me know by my e-mail:

	dcaetano@sti.com.br

		Thanks!

Installation
------------

First, run CHKDSK, initializing the system with Utilities Disk, to
verify ALL the drives. I received one e-mail that an user had an error that
have messed with his hard disk and he has to re-install the system. This
error can be avoid by simply running CHKDSK to correct all problems on
 the hard disks.

There is the need of install the drivers that come with OS/2 before
 the installation of these drivers.

Now unzip the archive into a temporary path (I believe you already
do that, once you are reading this readme).

CLOSE ALL PROGRAMS THAT ARE RUNNING. This is very important, I believe.
Even WPS/PM enhancers should be OFF now. The best way to do that is reboot
the system, close all programs open on the StartUp folder or StartUp.Cmd and
 then proceed.

The install is the easy as possible. Run the program INSTALL.CMD.

and READ all information that appear on the screen .
The install processes requires atention and caution. If you can install the
drivers on a HPFS drive is better, once less people have problems on that
kind of file system. Before selecting strange configurations provided by
DOS drivers, try the default. Usually it will work.

At the end of the process, DO NOT shutdown. READ the last
information that appears at the end of the process of "INSTALL.CMD"...
It will teach you how to change the CONFIG.SYS for TWO reasons:

	- THE FIRST:
To avoid that your system HANGS on the next boot.

	- THE SECOND:
To provide you the hability to play with the same device under
DOS/WinOS2 and OS/2 (you can play a MIDI on DOS and at the same
time you can play OTHER on the OS/2!)

Pay atention at this points, they are very important.

*IF* the install fails, READ the BUGs section, and see if it cover
your problem. If not, send me an e-mail.

These Drivers Work With Your Sound Board?
-----------------------------------------

These drivers should work on all Sound Blasters newer than PRO series.
This statement means that ALL sound blaster 16 and above teorically should
work with them. I opened this section to add sound cards that work with the
drivers but are not from Creative Labs. These sound boards are:

Sound Forte SF16 MCX - As Sound Blaster 16

History
-------

  + New multicolored icons
 * Corrected IBM's WINSTALL.CMD
  - Removed Portuguese Install
  * Mixed with Colin drivers
  * Updated instructions.
  + Additions on the README.TXT

x Driver installer changed. Now I'm trying to use the installer that comes
with 2.20.0 drivers to install 2.30.0 drivers, once I think the older
Install is better than newer one.
  + Additions on the README.TXT

- 1.1 Second Public Release

  * Bug fixed on AWE Control Panel (it was not working on v1.0)
(sorry people. Thanks to Nicholla Solano for the bug report).

- 1.0 First Public Release

Bugs and Solutions
------------------

Problem: My sound board is not recognized, and the lines are ignored.
Solve1: Verify the directory where you installed. On some systems the files are
not installed at all. If the files are not there, please,
send me a complete info of your system, so I can *try* to determine
	where is the problem.
Solve2: If you use SIO drivers, try moving the SIO lines to the end
of the CONFIG.SYS. I had no problems with SIO, but some users
	reported this kind of problem.
Solve3: Maybe can be TWO lines loading the SB drivers. Verify the config.sys
and look for it. If you find these two lines, remark the older (the
one that comes first, from the start of the file (top)).
Solve4: Try moving the DEVICE line that loads the SB driver to the start
of the file... But remeber that, if you use HPFS, the IFS loading
HPFS must be THE FIRST line of the config.sys.

Problem: The Creative Mixer doesn't work. I made a change and it
	ignores the change.
Solve: This is not my fault, sorry. This is MMPM/2 fault. Try using
a better mixer, such aMixer, that you can find at
	http://www.40th.com/ .

Problem: After I installed the new drivers, APCODEC6 do not work anymore.
Solve: Be sure that you have installed APCODEC6 *after* the new drivers.
Install APCODEC6.ZIP that is in hobbes. The APCODEC6 that comes with
Quick Motion doesn't work with this new drivers (I believe).
If it is not works after all, try contacting APCODEC author, saying
about problems with SB drivers 2.30.0. On several places the driver
works well with APCODEC, so I think that is a problem with APCODEC,
maybe. Only APCODEC author can say that.

Problem: The install doesn't work and I already send an e-mail for you
reporting the problem, but I want sound before you get the drivers
working for me. What can I do?
Solve: You can re-install MMOS/2 original drivers. To do that, open the
CONFIG.SYS file and remove all lines that contains the string
SBAUD1$ (use the Search function). Reboot the system.
Open the folder OS/2 System. Open the folder System Setup. Open the
folder Install/Remove. Open the object Selective Install. Select the
option Multimedia Device Suport and select your device (even it is
already selected). Click on Device Settings even if your card is
PnP, and made the selections if it is not. Push Ok. Click on the
Next button. Click on the Next button again. Now, select Multimedia
Software Support if it is not already selected. Unselect any other
check box that is selected. Click on Next. Select the drive where
is the install disks (or images) and click on Install button. At the
end of the process, reboot your system. Voil...

Problem: The installer said that there was an error when updating the
	MMPM2.INI on AWE64. What can I do?
Solve1: Probably you have not installed the SB16 drivers via the Selective
Install. Install them and then reinstall the 2.30.0 drivers.
Solve2: There is some problem with your MMPM2.INI. Try running CHKDSK via
	rebooting by Utilities Disk.

Support
-------

Once Creative Labs cannot support OS/2, neither do I, BUT you
CAN send me bug reports on problems with the INSTALL process. If possible
 I will solve the problem.

In the future I'm planing do the manual part of the process (changing
the config.sys) automatic, but, hey, don't wait for this. If you think
this is important, send-me an e-mail asking.

All programmers LOVE feedback, and I'm no exception... If you have
nothing to say, say only "I use your Sound Blaster Install program"...

My e-mail box is open for everybody.

	Thanks again,

			Daniel Jorge Caetano.
