Setup hints for using BGFAX with FD 2.02/NC 09-14-93

I REALLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU UPGRADE TO FD 2.12. THE FAX SETUP IS MUCH
EASIER AND MORE RELIABLE.

Keep in mind that fax commands cannot be stored in NVRAM.

Here is the relevant information from FDSETUP ...

[FDSETUP] Modem -> Command Strings
  Init-1 ... atz|
  Init-2 ... at+fcr=1;+fdcc=1,5,0,2,0,0,0,0|
  Init-3 ... at+flid="713 555 1212"|

Notice that everything is in LOWERCASE letters. This is done so that FD
does not mistake an initialization string as a fax connect. (You really
only need capital F's in lowercase, but I think it looks better when
everything is done in lowercase.)

  +fcr=1                   enables fax receiption
  +flid="713 555 1212" sets your FAX ID, up to 20 characters

  +fdcc=1,5,0,2,0,0,0,0 enable high resolution, 14400 fax
  +fdcc=1,3,0,2,0,0,0,0 enable high resolution, 9600 fax

Do not attempt to give a 9600 maximum speed send/receive fax modem the 1,5
string as it will cause unpredicable results.

[FDSETUP] Modem -> Answer control
  Manual answer    Yes
  Force answer ... at+faa=1;a|

The "at+faa=1;a" causes the modem to answer adaptively, i.e., to
automatically determine whether the incoming call is fax or data and return
the response to the modem.

[FDSETUP] Mailer -> Errorlevels
  1275 ... 255

==========================================================================

If you are using a modem such as a Supra that returns a "FAX" response
proceed with the following instructions ( METHOD #1 ) ...

[FDSETUP] Modem -> Messages
  1275 ... F              (yes, a SINGLE UPPERCASE letter F without pipes)

[FDSETUP] Mailer -> External mail
      String                                     Level
   1  X<numeric alt-13>                          255

The <numeric alt-13> is a musical note symbol that is formed by holding
down the <ALT> key, punching <1>, then <3> on the *numeric keypad* and then
releasing the <ALT> key.

The errorlevel defined is the same as that in the Mailer -> Errorlevels.

Notice that "F" and "X" make up the first and last part of "FAX".

FDRUN.BAT should contain something similar to ...

@echo off
c:
cd\fd
fd
if errorlevel 255 bgfax /fax c:\bgfax 1 z
if errorlevel 103 maint.bat
if errorlevel 102 toss.bat
if errorlevel 101 local.bat
if errorlevel 100 dobbs.bat

==========================================================================

If you are using a modem such as a PPI FXMT that returns a "+FCON" response
proceed with the following instructions ( METHOD #2 ) ...

[FDSETUP] Modem -> Messages
  1275 ... +FC              (yes, in upper case)

[FDSETUP] Mailer -> External mail
      String                                     Level
   1  N<numeric alt-13>                          255

The <numeric alt-13> is a musical note symbol that is formed by holding
down the <ALT> key, punching <1>, then <3> on the *numeric keypad* and then
releasing the <ALT> key.

The errorlevel defined is the same as that in the Mailer -> Errorlevels.

Notice that "+FC" and "N" make up the first and last part of "+FCON".

FDRUN.BAT should contain something similar to ...

@echo off
c:
cd\fd
fd
if errorlevel 255 bgfax /fcon c:\bgfax 1 z
if errorlevel 103 maint.bat
if errorlevel 102 toss.bat
if errorlevel 101 local.bat
if errorlevel 100 dobbs.bat

If BGFAX fails to work properly, try using this line instead:

if errorlevel 255 bgfax /fast c:\bgfax 1 z
