============
FOREWORD
============

This is a VDD that lasted some time, not because it's so complicated,
but because I don't have much time to do it.

Yes, it's a VDD that is able to emulate a Soundblaster card.

Yet, it's only able to emulate but not output the sample data. This
means most people won't really need it at all. It's currently just
for checking, if the emulation code works properly. I still need to
route the sample data through John Gow's DTA interface.

This DLL *REQUIRES* the vDMA v0.92b+ replacement, otherwise it WILL NOT
load successfully nor work!

Currently at least one is able to patch out Sierra On-Line sounddrivers
on-the-fly - if used in addition to vCOMPAT and by using pass-through
mode, one should also be able to get sound working, if one has a
Soundblaster compatible card on port 220h, IRQ5 and DMA1 (this IS required!)

It's also fixing the VDM, so that it doesn't detect (some) movie
players as being some "idle phase" and so messing up the actual
playback.

=======================
vSOUND INSTALLATION
=======================

Simply copy VSOUND.SYS into your MDOS directory (e.g. x:\OS2\MDOS)
and insert this line into config.sys:
'DEVICE=x:\OS2\MDOS\VSOUND.SYS'
(where x:\ is your OS/2 / eCS boot-drive)

The location does not matter, but you should put vSOUND *PRIOR* to
vCOMPAT, otherwise they won't connect to each other.

=====================
vSOUND PROPERTIES
=====================

HW_SOUND_PASSTHRU (default OFF):
----------------------------------
If enabled, vSOUND will emulate a soundblaster but try to forward
sound playback to a real Soundblaster existing on port 22xh, IRQ5
and DMA1/DMA5. If the hardware is not exactly on those settings,
anything may happen!

Please note that detection IRQs will get emulated by vSOUND and will
not get forwarded to the real hardware. vSOUND will always emulate
IRQ5.

HW_SOUND_TYPE (default "Soundblaster 16"):
--------------------------------------------
Specifies the type of soundblaster, that is emulated. Choices are
"Soundblaster 16", "Soundblaster PRO", "Soundblaster" and "None".
Note: This does not change actual emulation, so 16-bit stereo is
available at any time.

HW_SOUND_MIXER (default ON):
------------------------------
If enabled, vSOUND will forward mixer setting changes to real audio
hardware. This means that a VDM application may turn volume down.

=========================
vSOUND Movie-Play fix
=========================

This code will fix at least the following games:
Megarace
Strife (Intro movie)
