**************
What is jPadHD?
**************
jPadHD is a very simple personal database to save small
text files and notes. It is written in the Java language to
make it multiplatform and has built in functions for
creating new folders and notes, searching notes, importing
and exporting text files, splitting large text files to fit in the
database, and simple printing.
jPadHD can help organize notes and text data and make it
easier to find your information when you need it!

*********************
Requirements for jPadHD
*********************
jPadHD requires you to have a Java, ver. 1.1.1 or better
runtime environment on whatever platform you are using.
If all the platforms you are using support long file names
then you can use them without problems. However, if
one or more of the platforms do NOT use long file names
it is recommended that you do not use them at all.
Otherwise you may NOT be able to see all your folders
or notes on all the platforms.

While jPadHD should work on any 1.1.1 version of the Java
runtime environment IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you
use ver. 1.1.6 or later for best results and performance.

It has been specifically tested on Windows 95 (JRE 1.1.6),
Windows NT 4.0 (JRE 1.1.6), and OS/2 Warp 4.0 (JRE 1.1.4).

Limitations and caveats
********************
It is recommended that on most platforms that you set the
maximum note size to 25k bytes. Many platforms may be
able to make this size larger but performance may degrade
(for searches) to an unacceptable level. The maximum note
size limit can be set in the Misc. settings dialog and tailored
(somewhat) to your personal needs. Reasons for this
limitation are partially because of performance issues,
the state of many Java runtime environments, and the
state of the Java objects and compiler tools. Java is just
not as mature as we all want it at this moment.
Some features may also not work correctly on all platforms.
All features were tested on Windows 95, Windows NT, and
OS/2. All features work on OS/2 and performance is
acceptable with Java 1.1.4 (or later) and fix packs. The
same applies to Windows 95/NT with Java 1.1.6 or later.

jPadHD allows the maximum number of 50 folders.
jPadHD does not support subfolders inside these 50 folders.
jPadHD allows the maximum number of 500 notes per folder.
Maximum size for notes may vary per platform. The
maximum suggested (and default) size is 25k. Some
platforms may allow a much larger size to be used but
performance may also be affected by this.
